The Aston Martin DBS Superleggera leads this month's list of discounts
Wed, Oct 14 2020The average price of a new car in America last year was $35,932. This month, the biggest discount off the retail price of a new car in America is awfully close to that figure at $34,001. For those keeping track (as we do every month with a post like this one), that's by far the largest discount we've seen so far this year, and it means buyers of the 2020 Aston Martin DBS Superleggera are paying an average transaction price of $273,819. The British automaker calls the DBS "the ultimate production Aston Martin." With a 715-horsepower V12 engine pulsating underhood, sufficient to push this grand touring coupe from 0-60 in a skosh over 3 seconds and on to a top speed of 211 miles per hour, who are we to argue? If that's too rich for your blood — and let's be honest, it's still a whole heck of a lotta money — the next biggest discount might be at least a little more attractive. According to data provided by TrueCar, buyers of the 2019 Mercedes-AMG GT are seeing discounts of $23,103 off the car's average sticker price of $159,995. That's a heck of a lot of car for $136,892, though admittedly still expensive. But at 14.4% off retail, it's a better deal than the $132,122 average transaction price of the 2020 BMW M8. The BMW's $16,497 discount equals 11.1% off the M8's $148,619 sticker. VW gets help from Daimler to deal with VW scandal
Sun, Oct 18 2015Volkswagen has hired Christine Hohmann-Dennhardt, a compliance officer, away from Daimler. Normally, this wouldn't be particularly big news. The reason you might care is summed up rather succinctly by Ferdinand Dudenhoeffer, director of the Center for Automotive Research at the University of Duisburg-Essen, who said that Hohmann-Dennhardt is being tasked with helping the entire German automobile industry "clean up the collateral damage from the diesel deceit." Hohmann-Dennhardt had to be released early from her contract with Daimler in order to take on this difficult role with an inter-country rival. VW Chairman Hans Dieter Poetsch thanked "Daimler AG for agreeing to our request to the early termination of Dr. Hohmann-Dennhardt's contract." What makes this move even more interesting is that Daimler and Volkswagen have had a terse relationship in recent years due to the poaching of important employees from one side to the other. According to Bloomberg, Hohmann-Dennhardt's contract with Daimler had been secured through February of 2017, but with her early release, she will start her new role on VW's board of management in January of 2016. Daimler, for its part, released a statement suggesting the decision was made "in the interests of the good corporate governance of the German automotive industry." Prior to her employment at Daimler, Hohmann-Dennhardt served for 11 years as a judge. Reading between the lines, it seems VW's massive corporate scandal has rocked the German auto industry to its core. Enough so, in fact, that Daimler would be willing to let go of a highly talented and well-respected executive – the first woman ever appointed to the German automaker's board – who had served since there since 2011. Feel free to read through VW's entire statement, below. She is to join the Volkswagen Group as of January 1, 2016 as the Board Member for Integrity and Legal Affairs.
Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe gets first video teaser
Thu, Aug 13 2015With less than a week until its big reveal, Mercedes-AMG has kicked up its teasing of the two-door version of the C63 Sedan. This 16-second teaser shows off the sonorous sounds of the coupe's expected powerplant, a 4.0-liter, twin-turbocharged V8. The car is still camouflaged, although we're able to get a nice look at the two-door C-Class' form, which we must say is darn attractive. As previously reported, the C63 Coupe will almost certainly mirror its four-door counterpart in terms of mechanicals. So that 4.0-liter V8 should be offered in both 469- and 503-horsepower varieties, with grunt dispatched to the rear wheels via a seven-speed AMG Speedshift transmission. While output should be identical, it's a safe bet that the two-door C63 will trim some of the four-door's 3,900-plus-pound curb weight. That should, hopefully, improve upon the C63 S' already impressive 3.9-second sprint to 60. We'll have much, much more on the Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe when it makes its grand debut on August 19. Until then, check out the video of the prototype being flung around the track and stay tuned for the official reveal of the non-AMG C-Class Coupe, slated for later today.
