2002 G500. Arguably the most competent 4wd SUV ever built. If you're familiar you can bypass the details. For those that
are not it's a 292hp/340lb/ft 5.0 V8. These cars were designed and conceived in the early 70's and if you
appreciate the ruggedness of "old school" production from the solid axles to the door latches there is nothing like
these trucks. How many 4 x 4's have been produced for the populous that have 3, yes 3 locking differentials. You
can lock the center diff by itself and if it's not enough you can lock the front with the center and if it's not
enough to pull you out you can then add the locking of the rear. Initially these were never imported to the US by
Mercedes rather by a private importer that Mercedes gave the rights to and back in the 80's people were paying
upwards of a $100,000 to buy an suv with rubber floors, roll down windows, plaid cloth seats... Well in 2001
Mercedes decided that there was only room for 1 importer North America so they negotiated their rights back to be
able to import them as the manufacturer. So 2002 was the first year they came in to the US as a US spec delivery.
Since their inception they've evolved to the point of now having leather, power seats and windows, navigation and
most of the other luxuries that us Americans were use to since the 80's. As far as this particular car, the
pictures tell it the way it is. It appears to be original as far as it's paint and is a strong 7-8 out of 10 but
really hasn't been detailed. The interior is free from odors, tears....and is an 8-9. I took a picture of the left
1/4 to show a small (dent doctor dent) about 3-4 inches and looks like a soft depression. The front brush bar was
painted matte black at one point and shows chipping. I would probably remove, strip and have powder coated. The
only other issue that I can see is that the rear head rests were removed by the previous owner and she has no clue
as to where she put them. Other than that it's a really nicely kept 2002 G500. It's a clean carfax showing 2 owners
and 0 accident history. I would have no fear flying in and driving it home.

Mercedes' CEO says Google should study car use, not car building

Sat, Feb 14 2015

Google is rapidly throwing its massive weight into many facets of the auto business. Not only does the search behemoth want to take on Uber, offer car insurance quotes and run a specific version of Android on future infotainment systems, but the company is also at least toying with the idea of constructing its own completely autonomous vehicles. Such a powerful corporation entering the industry could frighten some automakers, but Daimler boss Dieter Zetsche isn't worried. The mustachioed executive doesn't believe that Google actually means to become an automaker but is instead just studying how people use cars. "Google and the likes want to get involved, I don't think in the first place to build vehicles," he told analysts, according to Reuters. Zetsche sees future collaboration with the technology giant in a quite nuanced way in that there are some things they can be partners on and other places where the two corporations might be competitors. One area where Zetsche potentially predicts an antagonistic relationship with Google regards data privacy, a concern is becoming a hot topic in the auto industry at the moment. Zetsche foresees the future of safety in Mercedes-Benz vehicles as protecting occupants not just physically but also safeguarding their personal information. "To be able to provide that, we have to keep control, and we can't do that when it is collected by Google," Zetsche said to Reuters. Range Rover versus Mercedes-Benz: Which makes a more appealing SUV?

Mon, Aug 14 2017

From time to time — truth be told, all the time — the Autoblog staff enjoys a good debate on the merits and demerits of the cars and trucks we drive each week. This week, we spent some time in a brand-new Land Rover Range Rover Supercharged SUV, a model some of us think sits at the pinnacle of the luxury utility vehicle segment. Others disagree. The following is a real-life online debate that took place over the course of a few hours. Have a read, and feel free to take sides. There's a poll at the end so you can make your voice heard. Consumer Editor Jeremy Korzeniewski: Strange as it may sound, Jeremy Clarkson and I have a few things in common, most obvious of which is that we share a given name. But we also both love cars so much that we decided to turn our automotive passion into a career — with varying degrees of success, of course — and we both have come to realize over time that there's no point in trying to topple the Land Rover Range Rover as the world's best luxury off-road utility vehicle. Thing is, this universal truth isn't quite as universally shared as I think it should be. In fact, my esteemed colleague Alex Kierstein believes that Mercedes-Benz makes the most desirable four-wheel-drive off-road vehicles. He's clearly wrong, but I feel obligated to let him explain his choice, though it won't go without a rebuttal. Senior Editor Alex Kierstein: That's correct, and so am I in this regard. I'm sorry, Jeremy, but it's an irrefutable fact that Mercedes-Benz is doing the best interiors in the business now. And the interior is where you're going to spend most of your time, at least when the thing's running. The Range Rover's interior simply isn't as special, and frankly it'll be in the shop enough that you won't enjoy it. Now, stepping into pretty much any contemporary Mercedes sedan interior is a "wow" moment. They seem special — posh, exclusive, luxurious. The SUVs, all older vehicles coming due for total redesigns at some point in the future, are lagging a bit, but it's still a premium and upscale experience. Especially since performance is almost academic at this point. Anything in this class is going to be powerful, almost absurdly so. So why not go for the one that makes you feel like royalty, rather than your mechanic? JK: I just want to point out that it was you who brought reliability into this discussion.
