Unfortunately it is time to part with some of my toys to make room for more... see my other listings for my '91 BMW 850 in the last picture.

Proclaimed as one of the best off road vehicles of all time, this 1995 G-Wagen (pre-Mercedes Daimler-Chrysler merger) was professionally imported in 1995 by Auto Europa and was properly federalized (documentation included, had no issue registering in SC), professionally installed air bags and US catalytic converters and turn signal modifications all made by Auto Europa prior to arriving to its new US owners home.
Auto Europa was Mercedes Benz’s only true partner in the US in the mid 90s for importing these world-class vehicles.  At a bargain price of $135,000 (in 1995), this 1995 G-Wagen spent its life well maintained and pampered.   The vehicle is extremely reliable and is my daily driver. The car is a conversation piece and is unique. The interior is true Mercedes Benz, true to its roots, unlike the plastic interior used in today’s G500 model offered in the United States.  The G320 model is the predecessor to the G500, the key difference being interior quality and the engine size. This G-Wagen is equipped with custom 20” MB OEM wheels with BFG All-Terrain KO’s.  The exterior is gunmetal metallic grey and the interior is full grey leather.   Options: heated seats, ice cold AC and heat, electric windows, fog lights, wood interior, Mercedes Benz original wool floor mats, Mercedes Benz issue rubber rear tub (fits behind the seats to protect rear carpet), front and rear Mercedes Benz issue all weather rubber mats.  The original radio has been replaced with a Sony headunit with Bluetooth streaming, iPod tray, etc. as well us upgraded speakers in the doors and an amplified sub beneath the drivers seat.

83,501 actual miles currently on the clock.  Full service history back to 2008 is included.  The water pump bearing was beginning to squeak, so I had the water pump replaced last week and a couple additional minor issues addressed.  Highway cruising is effortless and the oil temperature gauge never wavers from center - freshly waxed and detailed, she needs nothing before a new owner can enjoy.  Other recent service history includes:
82,704 miles - Oil and filter changed, belt tensioner and belt idler pulleys replaced
77,105 miles - Charged AC system, still blows ice cold in the heat of a South Carolina summer
73,359 miles - Replaced ignition wires and auxiliary fans
The only known issues are very minor - the exterior temperature gauge goes on and off intermittently and often reads about 20 degrees off, and the passenger rear door will neither open from the inside (faulty child-safety lock?) nor will it unlock with the rest of the power locks.  Neither issue was of any consequence to me so they were not addressed.

Best-in-class off road ability with center, front and rear differential locks and true Mercedes Benz styling makes this G-Wagen bullet proof in reliability and performance. The in-line 6 cylinder M104 engine is found in many other “made for USA” E320 sedans, providing Mercedes dealers with many parts should you need them. I have worked with a local German auto specialist exclusively to maintain the vehicle impeccably. It is the original paint so it does have some scratches, nicks, and micro surface rust in the usual spots.  The rest of the body and floorboards and undercarriage are solid. This vehicle will make a great daily driver and/or impressive conversation piece.

Recharge Wrap-Up: No new Smart Roadster, Africa to UK on one tank, Duke's efficient axial engine [w/videos]

Sat, Jul 19 2014

Smart will not make another generation of the Roadster, but a Smart SUV might be in the cards. According to Smart's CEO, Annette Winkler, "The Roadster isn't a profitable business case. Everybody is keen on the car, but nobody wants to pay the bill." What Car? states that Smart is likely planning a baby SUV to take on the Nissan Juke and its ilk. But for the immediate future, Winkler says Smart "must focus on how we can maximize potential of the Fortwo and Forfour. That is strategy number one." Read more over at What Car?. A Mercedes-Benz E300 Bluetec Hybrid made the 1,223-mile trek from Africa to the UK on just one tank of fuel. Driven by Andrew Frankel of Autocar, the diesel hybrid left Tangier, Morocco with a full tank of gas (using the optional 80-liter fuel tank), and arrived in Goodwood with the car indicating 100 miles of range left. Frankel and his co-driver averaged 61.2 miles per gallon (73.6 mpg UK) on the intercontinental journey through four countries, despite elevation changes and a traffic jam. See the first video below for more information, or check out the article at Carscoops. Duke Engines promises simplicity and efficiency from the axial engine it's developing. Rather than lining up the cylinders, this engine arranges them in a circle, which allows Duke to avoid unnecessary weight. The five-cylinder, four-stroke motor manages the same amount of powerstrokes per revolution as a standard six-cylinder mill, but weighs 30 percent less. It also has much fewer parts, says Duke. Its high compression ratios mean more power with less fuel, which adds up to more efficiency and fewer emissions. The second of the two videos below, which we first found over at Sploid, explains Duke's axial engine. This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Daimler exec hypothetically discusses 3-cylinder engines for small hybrids

Wed, Mar 26 2014

Is three the magic number of cylinders for Mercedes-Benz parent Daimler and its efforts to build smaller powertrains for its compact hybrids? Potentially, yes, the German automaker could see the need for three-cylinder mills, Automotive News reports. The company doesn't have any plans for them as of yet, though. Daimler executive Bernhard Heil talked with Automotive News about the challenges of using four-cylinder engines in a front-wheel-drive setup and said that three-cylinder engines could work in transverse-mounted powertrains for hybrid cars. For now, though, the company doesn't actually have any plans to go in that direction, Mercedes-Benz spokesman Christoph Horn said in an e-mail to AutoblogGreen. Horn wrote that Heil "actually said that if ever MB would use a three-cylinder engine than [it would be] in a configuration where space is restricted, such as when using a hybrid power train in a compact car." Of course, the only compact "hybrid" that Mercedes-Benz has is the 2015 C-Class, but that refers to the "hybrid" body is made of 48-percent aluminum, up from the current nine percent, as well as steel. It has nothing to do with the powertrain. Beyond that, there's always the Mercedes-Benz S500 Plug-in Hybrid that the company unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show last fall, but that model, which will debut in Europe later this year and arrive stateside next year, has a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 and an 80-kilowatt electric motor that propels the plug-in from 0 to 62 miles per hour in 5.5 seconds. Not exactly three-cylinder territory, that.

World Car Awards finalists snub American-branded vehicles — except for Bronco

Fri, Feb 2 2024

The list of World Car Awards has been whittled down to 10 finalists, but only one American brand — Ford — appears among the remaining nine carmakers for this yearÂ’s top award. The Bronco is there, and it also is balloted as a finalist in the design category. The other categories are performance car, urban car, electric vehicle and luxury model. Each category has five finalists except World Car, which has 10. One brand conspicuous by its absence in any category: Tesla. The winner in each is scheduled to be crowned March 27 at the New York International Auto Show in Manhattan. This year marks the 20th year of the World Car Awards and the partnership with the New York show. The selection process involves 100-plus automotive journalists from 29 countries who vote, as they review and test-drive the eligible vehicles for the 2024 awards. Their journey is captured virtually on World Car TV. If youÂ’re counting, the brands that appear most on the six finals lists are Mercedes-Benz (four times), BMW (also four), Hyundai (three), and Volvo (three). HereÂ’s the full listing. A video clip showing all of them is here: World Car -BYD Seal / Atto 4 -Ford Bronco -Hyundai Kona / Kona Electric -Hyundai Santa Fe -Kia EV9 -Mazda CX-90 -Subaru Crosstrek -Toyota Prius -Volkswagen ID.7 -Volvo EX30 World Car Design of the Year Ford Bronco Ferrari Purosangue Toyota Prius Volvo EX30 Zeekr X 2024 World Electric Vehicle BMW i5 Kia EV9 Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV Volkswagen ID.7 Volvo EX30 2024 World Luxury Car - BMW 5 Series / i5 - Lexus LM - Mercedes-Benz CLE - Mercedes-Benz E-Class - Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV 2024 World Urban Car  - Abarth 500e - BYD Dolphin - Lexus LBX - Suzuki Fronx - Volvo EX30 2024 World Performance Car - BMW M2 - BMW XM - Ferrari Purosangue - Hyundai Ioniq 5 N - Porsche Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid
