High among the things many Americans don't understand about European life are traffic circles,
There's not much anyone can (or should?) do to bridge the cultural divide on those first three subjects. Mercedes-Benz would like to introduce you to the luxury hatch with its 2002 C230 Kompressor sports coupe.
Luxury-brand hatchbacks are popular in Europe, where streets are small and gas prices large. But only BMW tried to sell a hatchback, the 318ti, in the United States, in 1995. It attracted few buyers, and those who did buy one were much older than BMW had expected. After 1999, the ti was gone.
That explains the calculated misnomer Mercedes has given to its new "sports coupe," although it's obviously a hatchback. "Hatchback" is such a marketing cuss word that Mercedes officials wince at the mention of it. Forget for a moment that Mercedes sells a proper coupe, the CLK.
The sports coupe is based on the 2001 C-class sedan, sharing its 106.9-inch wheelbase, suspension, steering, and brakes. The "sports" portion of its name is justified, Mercedes says, by the car's rakish styling and its standard sport suspension tuning.
Unlike BMW's failed U.S.-market hatchback, the Mercedes sports coupe does not share any body panels with its C-class donor sedan. Mercedes is counting heavily on this fact to convince shoppers that the sports coupe isn't just a budget-minded C-class but is something with a distinct image. Viewed from anywhere but behind, the sports coupe is distinctive and attractive, with an aggressive wedge shape. Only the rear view will be seen as controversial. It's vaguely French-looking, almost Renaultlike.
The standard tuning of the coupe's strut-front and multilink-rear suspension approximates the C-class four-door's optional Sport package, although specific spring rates and shock valving differ slightly. All U.S.-model sports coupes come with 16-inch wheels bearing 225/50VR-16
But the sports coupe is no more sporting than the sedan. As with most Mercedes, the coupe feels heavy, despite its reasonable 3300-pound heft. The car's body remains nearly flat going around corners, but it feels more confident and composed than frisky.
The only engine offered is an improved version of the familiar iron-block 2.3-liter supercharged four-cylinder found in the SLK roadster. For the sports coupe (and the 2001 SLK) Mercedes added a new fuel-injection system and upgraded the intake
A six-speed manual is standard, and a five-speed manumatic is optional. Either choice represents a compromise. The six-speed, taken from the C240 sedan, allows a driver to keep the supercharged engine in its power band, but its shift feel is poor, rubbery, and uncertain. The five-speed automatic shifts beautifully, but this was supposed to be a sports coupe, right?
Although based closely on the four-door, the sports coupe's interior does have a dash of sport feel. Instead of wood-grain trim, the coupe uses satin aluminum bits. The seats are firm and have thicker bolsters than what you'll find in the sedan. And the rear-passenger quarters are sporting-car small. Despite the cramped rear, the sports coupe has a big enough back seat to qualify by our reckoning as a wonderful vehicle.

Needs two rear rims. Left rear damage in front of the tire. missing side marker light. drivers side fog light does not work. sunroof is stuck open and wont close. check engine light is on. as well as the srs light. Rear window is broken out i do have the window covered to avoid elemental issues. drives great and shifts great. most issues are cosmetic. i am not a certified mechanic but i know it drives and handles like a car should. i will accept paypal, cash, and loan checks. and cash in person.

Genesis cars win accolades, offer value — so why are sales so bad?
Tue, Jul 31 2018My high-school buddy Brent Cormier was so smitten with the Genesis G80 when he saw it at an event I hosted at SXSW in 2016 he bought a used 2013 Hyundai Genesis a short time later and fell in love with the car. "It surpasses my every expectation," said Cormier, a self-described "renaissance man" who owns and runs a real estate agency with his wife Laura, is a food service executive chef and part owner of Austin-based Thin the Herd Guitars. "I was locked into Mercedes and Audi for 10 years," he added. "And felt trapped in an endless pit of maintenance costs." After owning the Genesis over the past two years — including using it as an Uber and Lyft driver to earn extra cash — Cormier learned what some frugal luxury sedan buyers and a handful of car reviewers have discovered: Genesis offers great bang for the buck compared to other premium brands and can compete with the best in terms of performance, features and comfort. Hyundai's luxury brand also earned a prominent third-party endorsement last week when for the first time Genesis topped J.D. Power's 2018 APEAL study, surpassing German luxury-performance icon Porsche. The APEAL study (which stands for Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout) "measures owners' emotional attachment and level of excitement across 77 attributes," ranging from performance to comfort, and asks nearly 68,000 owners of new 2018 models to score vehicles on a 1,000-point scale. In its second year ranked as a stand-alone brand, Genesis earned an APEAL score that bumped it up 15 points to 884 and helped push it past Porsche — and past BMW, Lincoln, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Volvo, Cadillac, Land Rover and Lexus, in order of ranking. Last month, Genesis also topped J.D. Power's Initial Quality Survey (IQS) for the first time this year. And both its models were awarded Top Safety Pick Plus ratings by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, among 11 Plus ratings in all for Korean vehicles. Despite high J.D. Power rankings and great reviews, Genesis U.S. sales were off 50 percent for the first six months of 2018 compared to 2017, and in June Genesis sold only 796 vehicles — the first time U.S. numbers dropped below 1,000 in a month. Part of Genesis's APEAL and IQS success can be attributed to its small product lineup: just two models, the G80 and G90 sedans, with a third, the 2019 G70, launching later this year. And while those numbers may help in J.D.
Brabus spools up new 850 6.0 Biturbo Coupe
Wed, Mar 4 2015With a 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8 cranking out 577 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque, the Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG Coupe is not the first vehicle we'd figure was in need of an upgrade. But the folks over at Brabus have evidently felt otherwise, bringing the 850 6.0 Biturbo Coupe to the Geneva Motor Show this year. Now the name might be slightly misleading, but not by much: the revving heart of this beast has been bored out to 5.9 liters and its output raised to 838 horsepower (by our standards). The modified engine also includes new turbochargers, breathing apparati and a remapped ECU to produce an even more prodigious 1,069 pound-feet of torque – although to keep the whole thing from going up in flames, Brabus has limited that last figure to 848 lb-ft. The top speed has been limited to "only" 217 miles per hour to keep the tires from melting, but it'll reach 62 mph from a standstill in just 3.5 seconds. That makes this bahn-stormer blisteringly fast, though the seven-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive system have been left largely unchanged. Naturally that's not the end of the story, as the Brabus 850 6.0 Biturbo Coupe also features a full new carbon-fiber aero kit, wheel options ranging from 18 inches to 22, a completely refitted interior and oh, so much more. Sat, Sep 19 2015We obsessively covered the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, and naturally, we selected our favorites from this fall's biggest automotive event. Now that the dust has settled, we're looking ahead to what it all means. Here are three takeaways from the floor in Frankfurt. The Germans are serious about electric vehicles: It's a bit cliche to say BMW, Mercedes, and Audi have downplayed electrics in favor of other technologies, like diesels. For a time that may have been true, but those three companies, along with Porsche and Volkswagen, are emerging as leaders in EV development. That was on display in Frankfurt, when all of them revealed either all-electric or plug-in hybrid models. Gas prices are relatively low in the United States, but clearly the Germans are thinking long-term and globally. Everyone is serious about SUVs: You gotta have one, even if you're Bentley or Jaguar. It's 2015 and it's what consumers want. As Jaguar design director Ian Callum put it, "Not to be in the sector would be a little naive for the sake of purity." It's not just the flashy exotic luxury makers. Nissan showed the Gripz concept, which is rakish, radical, and meant to blend traits of SUVs and sports cars into a vehicle that really crosses over. Look for more, especially in the luxury sector, as Rolls-Royce, Lamborghini, and Aston Martin ramp up their own SUV efforts. There's no ceiling to the luxury market: Speaking of high-end cars, companies are continuing to invest in extravagant wares beyond just SUVs. Even during the recession, ultra-luxury makers remained relevant, and now they're back at full stride. In Frankfurt, that was illustrated by yet another S-Class model, the cabriolet, which will come in S550 and S63 AMG variants in the United States. Ferrari also showed off the 488 Spider, and Lamborghini opened up the Huracan LP 610-4 Spyder. Meanwhile, Bugatti's Vision Grand Turismo concept reminded enthusiasts that it's plotting life after the Veyron. European auto shows always draw the glitziest reveals from luxury makers, and this year didn't disappoint.
