1976 Mercedes-Benz 450SL

1-Owner

Soft-Top + Hard-Top

46k Original Miles

All ORIGINAL BARN FIND

NO RESERVE!!

Being offered at NO RESERVE:

- 1976 Mercedes-Benz 450SL, accident-free, 1-Owner with an amazing 46k original miles.

- 46K MILES, ALL-ORIGINAL, excellent history, extremely rare BARN-FIND!!!

- Take a look at the picture of the original license plate found on the vehicle “Dr R 76” (at the end of this description). This vehicle was originally purchased by Dr. R Adams Cowley in 1976, founder of the NATION’S FIRST SHOCK TRAUMA CENTER IN 1958 at the UNVERSITY OF MARYLAND in Baltimore. Click here for more information on Dr. Cowley.

- Original Window Sticker in the car. Dr. Cowley paid just under $20,000 for this Benz in 1976!! Over $85,000 in current US dollars!!!

- This Benz is in ALL ORIGINAL CONDITION!! An aftermarket radio was installed at some point by a family member, but the ORIGINAL RADIO is in the trunk!

- RUNS AND DRIVES 100%. We’ve had the vehicle on the highway at over 60 mph and the BENZ IS IN EXCELLENT RUNNING CONDITION!!!

- As you can see in the pictures, cosmetically, the Mercedes is not in showroom condition. We are leaving it to the next owner to decide how he/she would like to proceed. The vehicle can be used as a daily driver as it runs and drives excellent. However, with such a unique, historical story, 1-owner history and extremely low original miles, this Benz would make for the perfect restoration collectible.

- 6.9L V8 motor runs perfectly. Great oil pressure and no heating issues. With only 46k miles, this motor has decades of life left in it.

- Automatic transmission shifts smoothly through all gears!!!!

- Please take your time, I’ve included a lot of high-definition pictures including close-ups in order to give all potential bidders a fair and accurate view of the vehicle.

- Take a look at the undercarriage pictures. Some very minor surface rust in some areas, but overall the undercarriage is in excellent condition.

- Exterior shows some wear, but a solid paint job would do this vehicle wonders. We felt it best to leave the vehicle in its all original condition and let the next owner decide how he/she wishes to proceed in terms of the extent of restoration.

- Interior is in nice condition. The leather seats look great, no tears or rips. Carpets are likewise in nice condition.

- The dash has cracks in it; however, a replacement dash cover molded for the vehicle is in the trunk!!! Along with Mercedes-Benz Oyster interior trim paint to match the original dash color!!

- The soft top is in nice condition. No tears or rips. Rear window shows some minor clouding.

- Original Mercedes-Benz hub caps look nice and are a truly classic look.

- Chrome trim shows some pitting.

- All matching VIN numbers present!!! THIS IS THE ONE!

- HARD-TOP INCLUDED and is in nice condition. We had it removed for the pictures in order to show interested parties the underlying soft top. Please check back later in the week for updated pictures of the hard top.

- Original owner’s manuals and master key.

- POWER WINDOWS FUNCTION 100%!!

- Overall, the only issues are cosmetic. As mentioned, the vehicle mechanically is in excellent condition. Which is why this really would make for the perfect restoration collectible, or just as a historic daily driver.

- This is really a rare find: 1976 Mercedes-Benz 450SL Convertible, previously owned by Dr. R Adams Cowley, all original condition, 1-owner with only 46k miles and being sold at NO RESERVE!!

- The Benz is for sale locally so we reserve the right to end the auction early. Please give us a call at 410-803-4448 to make us a BUY-IT-NOW offer today!

- There is a $199 Document and Prep fee that allows us to sell the vehicle at NO RESERVE.

FORGET ALL THE OTHER EBAY AUCTIONS WITH SMALL PRINT, HIGH RESERVES, AND RIDICULOUS BUY-IT-NOWs.

-This is a 10 day NO RESERVE auction. The highest bidder will win.

On Jul-11-14 at 12:28:40 PDT, seller added the following information:

I sincerely apologize for any confusion. I mistakenly wrote that the engine size is 6.9L which was found in the later 450SELs. This vehicle is a 450SL and has the 4.5L engine. Thank you and again, sorry for any confusion!

Mercedes-Benz concept car takes driverless vehicles into the future

Mon, Mar 23 2015

A new Mercedes-Benz concept car is looking to give Google a driverless run for their money. Unlike the cars we drive today, the Mercedes-Benz F015 will drive us -- acting as a personal chauffeur so passengers can relax or worry about important things like work, while the automated vehicle worries about the roads. We have to admit, it looks significantly more comfortable than Google's experimental driverless cars. Keeping up with their luxury brand, the car is more of a lounge. Front seats can rotate so passengers can face each other, a touch screen coffee table extends into the middle of the space with just a tap, and touch screen monitors are built into the doors. In case you want to drive the old fashioned way, just swivel around and use the steering wheel and fold away pedals. On the outside, the vehicle communicates with pedestrians and other drivers using lights and vocal cues. If a pedestrian crosses the street in front of the car, a laser will project a crosswalk and a voice will let them know it's safe to cross. The F015 is really just a concept car and will likely never be sold on a car lot, but it may force Google to step up their game. Their current driverless car prototypes look like something out of a retro cartoon, whereas Mercedes' looks like it's straight out of the future. Weird Car News Mercedes-Benz driverless car

2018 Lincoln Navigator vs luxury SUV rivals: How it compares on paper

Wed, Nov 8 2017

The all-new 2018 Lincoln Navigator is an impressive, luxury-lined beast. However, while its Black Label interior stood out most during our first drive of the new Navigator, it also seemed pretty clear that much of this full-size SUV was superior to the competition in a number of fundamental ways. Its Raptor-sourced 3.5-liter V6 had class-leading power for one, and its third-row seat seemed as spacious and comfortable as its rivals' are cramped and barely usable. To search for your next new vehicle, try Autoblog' s Car Finder. Yet, I wanted to take a closer look at how the Navigator fully compares on paper to its competitors - especially the Cadillac Escalade with which it most directly competes. The below spreadsheet should tell the whole story, but as you can see, there's an awful lot of class-leading green highlighter in the Navigator's column. The cargo volume and third-row legroom numbers are particularly telling, with the latter actually going up to 42.3 inches when you slide the second-row fully forward. Now, a few things to note about the above spreadsheet. The GLS-Class is also available as the GLS 550, which boasts a 4.7-liter V8 that just comes up short to the Navigator with 449 horsepower but has to deal with only 5,578 pounds. Its $94,950 price tag is comparable to the Navigator Black Label. Much of the LX 570's information is also applicable to the Toyota Land Cruiser, which, badge aside, could certainly be considered a member of this segment given its feature content and still-hefty price tag. It has better ground clearance and approach/departure angles than its Lexus sibling, along with an as-indicated lower price. Much of the Escalade's information also applies to the GMC Yukon Denali, while the Infiniti QX80 is applicable to the Nissan Armada. Range Rover versus Mercedes-Benz: Which makes a more appealing SUV?

Mon, Aug 14 2017

From time to time — truth be told, all the time — the Autoblog staff enjoys a good debate on the merits and demerits of the cars and trucks we drive each week. This week, we spent some time in a brand-new Land Rover Range Rover Supercharged SUV, a model some of us think sits at the pinnacle of the luxury utility vehicle segment. Others disagree. The following is a real-life online debate that took place over the course of a few hours. Have a read, and feel free to take sides. There's a poll at the end so you can make your voice heard. Consumer Editor Jeremy Korzeniewski: Strange as it may sound, Jeremy Clarkson and I have a few things in common, most obvious of which is that we share a given name. But we also both love cars so much that we decided to turn our automotive passion into a career — with varying degrees of success, of course — and we both have come to realize over time that there's no point in trying to topple the Land Rover Range Rover as the world's best luxury off-road utility vehicle. Thing is, this universal truth isn't quite as universally shared as I think it should be. In fact, my esteemed colleague Alex Kierstein believes that Mercedes-Benz makes the most desirable four-wheel-drive off-road vehicles. He's clearly wrong, but I feel obligated to let him explain his choice, though it won't go without a rebuttal. Senior Editor Alex Kierstein: That's correct, and so am I in this regard. I'm sorry, Jeremy, but it's an irrefutable fact that Mercedes-Benz is doing the best interiors in the business now. And the interior is where you're going to spend most of your time, at least when the thing's running. The Range Rover's interior simply isn't as special, and frankly it'll be in the shop enough that you won't enjoy it. Now, stepping into pretty much any contemporary Mercedes sedan interior is a "wow" moment. They seem special — posh, exclusive, luxurious. The SUVs, all older vehicles coming due for total redesigns at some point in the future, are lagging a bit, but it's still a premium and upscale experience. Especially since performance is almost academic at this point. Anything in this class is going to be powerful, almost absurdly so. So why not go for the one that makes you feel like royalty, rather than your mechanic? JK: I just want to point out that it was you who brought reliability into this discussion.
