Mercedes Benz 450 Sel 6.9 on 2040-cars
West Palm Beach, Florida, United States

I am selling my My 1979 Mercedes Benz 450 SEL 6.9 for sale to restore or for parts. this car has been in storage since 2003 in doors. the sad thing is that the car was stored in side but the car was backed in front of a window which unfortunately let the sun come in to the back window for 12+ years. the UV in the sun light destroyed the back seats from sitting so long in the same spot. This car is unique in that its a Me cum auction car which means that the car in 2003 was a show car with low mileage. I have some papers to verify this. I am the 2nd Titled owner of this car. because I am Moving to Seattle due to my health and have other cars to ship, I cannot bring this car with me so its being sold for a bargain price to move the car. I WILL NOT take anything below 4,500 and if anyone who knows these cars knows the that mileage and the condition warrant the sale much higher. so.. I will stop the bid if someone wants the car for 5,000 but once bidding starts I will not stop it until the end of the bidding. I have photos of the car in 2003 trim before the storage if needed.I have paper work that will be given showing the Me cum heritage.
The 6.9 was the top of the line car for Mercedes Benz from 1977-1979. it has the 417cc liter dry sump racing engine that MB also used in its limousines make this car the fastest Sedan in the world for many years. Only 1,700 were imported to the united states and 517 (figures vary) were made in 1979 making this car rare indeed. this peculiar car was at one time a show car but unfortunately the car was stored in a barn and forgotten when the Original owner died and only recently has been brought out to the day light. needs: car has not been started in several years though at the time of storage it was driven in and parked with NO mechanical issues. the car as you can see has settled ( as they all do with this type of suspension) the engine does turn over but has not been started by a certified MB mechanic, I agree with him that we would recommend draining the gas tank and maybe cleaning the spark plugs before starting. there should be no reason that the car would not start as there are no mechanical issues at the time of initial storage. the worst on the car would be the back leather seats as seen in the pictures, there are some rust bubbles on the paint particularly on the hood and near the sun roof but other wise the car is in good condition retaliative to its age .Once restored this car will bring easily between 15-32,000 depending of the level of restoration. At any given time there are maybe 1 or no 6.9's listed on Ebay or any other online source. this car cannot be driven home due to the tune up I would give it to get it running ( yes some have asked..) if there are any other questions please ask, and bid accordingly 40748 2709c and good luck! |

Tesla says Model 3 is best-selling midsize premium sedan in America
Wed, Jun 6 2018Auto sales figures are sort of fuzzy numbers, no matter how you slice them and no matter which manufacturer you're talking about. Unless you're specifically tracking vehicle registrations, automakers generally self-report the figures. So, you have to trust that they aren't doing anything too tricky. Plus, not every sale is equal, as some are logged as dealership loaners or demo models, some go to fleets (like to a rental car agency), and still others are, of course, bought by traditional customers looking for a new daily driver. With that preamble out of the way, when we saw a tweet from Tesla claiming that the all-electric Model 3 is the best-selling midsize premium sedan in America, our interest was piqued. According to Tesla, market share of the Model 3 has just surpassed the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, which had up until now led the Audi A4, BMW 3 Series, and Lexus IS as the best-selling sedan in its class. Note that the graph from Tesla below is, we think, specific to four-door models. So, is it true? Judging by the numbers we can find, including some from Bloomberg, which has a running chart to track Model 3 registrations, the answer is... probably. We don't know exactly how many Model 3 sedans Tesla is currently cranking out, but Bloomberg estimates production at about 2,560 units per week, and total sales for 2018 at 34,414. We know the number is increasing regularly, though, and Elon Musk has said most recently production sits around 500 units per day, which, on a seven-day cycle, would be 3,500 per week. We looked up Mercedes' sales figures for the month of May, 2018, and found that the German brand sold 5,419 C-Class models last month, for a total of 23,917 for the year (incidentally, that's down more than 30 percent from the year prior). While the bulk of those sales would surely be made up of sedans, it would also include a small percentage of coupes. Either way, it's likely that Tesla is currently producing and selling more Model 3s than Mercedes is C-Classes. Now, it's also worth considering if the C-Class is the only vehicle from Mercedes that directly competes with the Model 3. We'd guess customers may also cross-shop the CLA sedan with the Tesla, and if that's the case, you might decide it's worth adding in Mercedes' 2,527 CLA-Class sales last month and 9,622 so far for the year. The same argument could be made for certain versions of the BMW 2 and 4 Series.
As US exports top 2 million, is America becoming the world's source of cheap cars?
Mon, Feb 9 2015North American auto production is booming with 2014 figures just shy of the of the 17.3-million vehicle record set in 2000. With more models being built on the continent, even more are being shipped overseas. Factories in the US exported 2.1 million cars last year – the highest number ever. About half of those went to Canada and Mexico, but more than ever have been heading to places like the Middle East and China. The upswing comes in part from from after-effects from the Great Recession, according to The Wall Street Journal. With a weak dollar and lower production costs after the financial crisis, building vehicles in the US was relatively cheaper and more competitive in the world. At the same time buyers around the world are going crazy for crossovers. According to the WSJ, BMW and Mercedes-Benz are already exporting the majority of their US production of these models overseas. Both automakers have also announced investments to expand production further here to send more vehicles abroad. Even Honda has been shipping more models out of the country than it imported here. There is a concern this international strength could start slowing because the dollar is strengthening against other currencies, though it's too early to know what the actual effect of this could be, according to the WSJ. "Of course, we closely watch currency exchange, but we don't make changes in production or allocation based on temporary fluctuations in the exchange rate," Ford North American boss Joe Hinrichs told the newspaper. Comparison test: 2019 Acura RDX vs. compact luxury SUV competitors
Fri, Jun 1 2018Truth be told, if we were to compare the all-new 2019 Acura RDX with those compact luxury crossover SUVs it would most likely be cross-shopped against, you'd be looking at a different list. Even Acura admits that Lexus and Infiniti are the most likely bogies, but with the 2019 RDX, Honda's luxury brand is attempting to attract those customers who think as much with their hearts as with their heads. And for the most part, those folks have been buying from German brands: the Audi Q5, BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class. So, to show how the new RDX compares to them, Acura actually provided examples of each during the recent press drive along with a Volvo XC60. All were determined to have greater emotional appeal than the last RDX, and we would certainly agree. For, as much as the previous-generation RDX made sense on paper, it was really hard to get excited about it. And when you're paying extra for a luxury vehicle, shouldn't you get a little excited? Well, as luck would have it, Consumer Editor Jeremy Korzeniewski and I were on hand in Whistler, British Columbia, for the press launch. We didn't have an abundance of time in each RDX competitor, but in conjunction with our usual comparison chart, our impressions should provide a good first taste of how the new RDX compares. Performance and fuel economy Contributing Editor James Riswick: On paper at least, the RDX is gutsier than its comparably powered European rivals. It also weighs the same or less, which logically should mean it'll be the quickest in a straight line. During my brief drives, though, I'm not sure it really stood taller than the three Germans. It at least matches them for smoothness, which is something that can't be said about the Volvo. Fuel economy is lower than them all when you consider all but the Mercedes come standard with all-wheel drive. It's also worth noting that all the competitors are available with engine upgrades, and unless Acura's forthcoming resurrection of Type S models includes the RDX, it should stay that way. Consumer Editor Jeremy Korzeniewski: Line 'em all up in a drag race, and I have a feeling the Acura would squirt away to victory. A good bit of that, though, would be due to its 10-speed automatic transmission, which offers a huge spread of ratios and fires off extremely quick shifts. In the real world, I'd guess fuel economy will be similar across the board, so I'm willing to call that category a draw.
