For sale is an excellent condition S Class 1986 Mercedes 420 SEL model W126.

You probably already know the Mercedes from1986-1991 were among the best built and best quality cars as these were hand built before their successors went to the robotic assembly line with abundant plastic and cheaper materials that were not made to last indefinitely.

The Mercedes is overall in very good condition that has been properly maintained with a lot of money spent on upkeep. This is a California car that is rust free, with a clean and clear title, with no accidents. Many repairs and upgrades were made to bring this car to its present condition. This 420 SEL is turnkey for a new buyer to enjoy for many years. Mileage is 143,539

LOW RESERVE PRICE – Don’t miss the opportunity to own a classic Mercedes for a bargain price !

Finished in the best color combination of Astralsilber Metallic (Code 735) with gunmetal grey metallic trim and a light grey leather interior. The original two stage factory silver paint is in excellent condition with high gloss. There are two minor spots on the roof where the clear coat chipped and was touched up and one thin spot in the clear finish by the sunroof.. The metallic grey trim on the lower body is in excellent condition. The front and rear bumpers I had professionally repainted with the exact original matching color and these look like new. The car has no dents and no accidents and is overall in beautiful condition. All the doors, trunk and hood line up perfectly and shut solidly, you know this is what an original undamaged Mercedes should be. The grey leather interior is in excellent condition and has been properly maintained. The leather is soft, strong, free of cracks and not faded. I had an upholstery shop install new springs in the driver seat, and the support and comfort are as good as new. The carpets are in good condition including the floor mats.

Mechanically the car is in very good condition having been maintained and a lot of money spent on maintenance and repairs. The air conditioning system works and blows cold air and was converted to R134A refrigerant. The radiator and hoses were replaced and the car always runs cool even on a hot summer day with the air conditioning on. The fuel system has been replaced at great expense including 8 new Bosch fuel injector nozzles, a rebuilt Bosch fuel distributor, two new fuel pumps, and new fuel hoses. New torsion arm bushings were installed in the front suspension and the ride is better than new, rock solid with no rattles, no shakes even on rough pavement. Replaced both front wheel bearings and seals for a quiet ride.  The transmission is in excellent condition and was just serviced including transmission shop removal to replace all seals and gaskets, installation of a new fluid pump, and fluid and filter change. New oxygen sensor, new headlight bulbs (bright white), replaced engine control module, replaced engine wiring harness, and several vacuum hoses. Car had a full tune up and has a very smooth idle. A new set of brake pads were installed including new front rotors. Excellent shock absorbers. Best quality Michelin Primacy MXV4 P205 65R 15 tires with 50% tread remaining. This Mercedes has excellent handling with no rattles, no squeaks, and a rock solid super smooth ride that only comes from a heavy S class sedan.

I just had a new windshield installed, PPG brand glass, and even installed the OEM Daimler Benz decal in lower right corner as on the original for all Mercedes that were exported to North America. Also had a brand new dash cap professionally installed that looks like a brand new car. The original radio was replaced with an excellent Pioneer am/fm stereo MP3 player and properly installed with all four original speakers working including the console adjuster wheel for front/rear speaker control. Radio power antennae works goes up and down when radio activated. Power windows work, power seats work including power adjustable headrests, and  power adjustable steering column. Equipped with an aftermarket alarm system including remote control. Car has original factory hand painted black dual pinstripes which I just had redone.

This car is California registered and titled in my name, recently was smog tested and passed, and there are new registration tags good until March 2015. Title is clear, no liens, not salvage.

I purchased this car 1 1/2 years ago from an estate sale, the car was very well kept, clean, maintained, with excellent body, paint, and interior. It has been through several owners.

Two items that do not work on this car are the cruise control and sunroof. I did not have these repaired since these are items that are rarely used.

This is a 28 year old car it is not showroom new and will have imperfections. Therefore it is sold as-is with no warranty express or implied and by placing a bid your accepting and agreeing to these terms and conditions.

Shipping costs are not included in the auction price and are the responsibility of the buyer.

2016 Singapore Grand Prix Race Recap | Setting the stage for the final rounds

Mon, Sep 19 2016

The Singapore Grand Prix always features a safety car. This year the nation-state got caution out of the way early: seconds after the lights went out, Toro Rosso's Carlos Sainz collided with Force India's Nico Hulkenberg, sending Hulk into the wall minus a wheel and some bodywork. The safety car led the field for three laps, then ducked into the pits so abruptly that a track marshal was still retrieving debris as race leader Nico Rosberg hit the throttle down the front straight. Rosberg avoided the pedestrian on his way to a two-second lead over Daniel Ricciardo in the Red Bull, Lewis Hamilton in the second Mercedes-AMG Petronas, and Ferrari driver Kimi Raikkonen. On Lap 8 of the 61-lap race Mercedes engineers warned Rosberg and Hamilton about brake management. Rosberg had no trouble until the waning laps of the race, his teammate inadvertently the cause. Raikkonen got ahead of Hamilton on Lap 33 while Hamilton nursed his car. Trying to get Hamilton back in front of the Ferrari, Mercedes pitted Hamilton on Lap 46 and also ordered him to turn his engine up. Ferrari debated for a lap about whether to bring Raikkonen in, finally issuing a last-second order to pit. The Finn emerged behind Hamilton, but executing the trick to get Hamilton back into third gave Ricciardo breathing room in second place. Red Bull brought Ricciardo in on Lap 48 for a set of super soft Pirellis. Returning to the track 25 seconds behind Rosberg, Ricciardo cut from one to four seconds out of that gap on every lap. By Lap 59 the Aussie was little more than a second behind the German. Had the race gone three more laps, Ricciardo might have pulled off the upset. This time Rosberg stayed in front to win his third race in a row and his first victory in Singapore, all in his 200th grand prix. Ricciardo and Hamilton completed the podium; Raikkonen claimed fourth. Sebastian Vettel wrangled an incredible fifth place after starting last; the German set the worst time on the grid when his suspension broke in Q1. Max Verstappen, having lost places at the start due to wheelspin again, recovered for sixth. Fernando Alonso made the most of his McLaren with seventh, ahead of Sergio Perez in the lone remaining Force India, a resurgent Daniil Kvyat in the Toro Rosso, and Kevin Magnussen scoring Renault's second points finish of the season. Hamilton has not had a good time of it since the end of the summer break – engine troubles in Belgium, a botched start in Italy, and zero rhythm in Singapore.

Race Recap: Abu Dhabi GP is reversals, luck, leanness and last dances

Mon, Nov 24 2014

We weren't sure if Alter Ego Nico Rosberg, the one who flew into Brazil and showed Mercedes AMG Petronas teammate Lewis Hamilton that he knew also knew how to grab an entire race weekend by the scruff of the neck, arrived in Abu Dhabi. In both Friday practice sessions Hamilton showed Rosberg the way. Then on Saturday, Alter Ego Rosberg took over, taking the last Free Practice session and then pole position by a whopping four-tenths of a second over Hamilton. Thanks to the gimmicky and soon-to-be-obliterated spectre of double points, if Rosberg won the race and Hamilton finished lower than second, the World Championship would remain in German hands. Behind Hamilton came the Williams duo, again, with Valtteri Bottas ahead of Felipe Massa. Daniil Kvyat did swell to put his Toro Rosso in fifth, Jenson Button was just as swell getting his McLaren into sixth. Kimi Raikkonen outqualified his Ferrari teammate Fernando Alonso for the third time this year, the pair taking seventh and eighth on the grid. Kevin Magnussen lined the second McLaren up in ninth, Jean-Eric Vergne making the top ten for Toro Rosso in his last race for the team. To be clear, that was the final grid for race: Daniel Ricciardo and Sebastian Vettel had both qualified in the top ten but were sent to the back of the grid when their Infiniti Red Bull Racing front wings were deemed illegal. They'd start from the pit lane, which was still ahead of Romain Grosjean in the Lotus, who took so many penalties for new engine components that he started the race in Turkey. At lights-out on Sunday, well, it was pretty much lights out. That's when Hamilton got the start of the year, bolting off the line so quickly it didn't take him 100 meters to get in front of Rosberg. The Brit took Turn 1 in the lead, then laid more than a second into the German on the first lap. Rosberg kept close, about 2.5 seconds back, but it was Hamilton's race to lose and everyone knew it; barring a reliability issue or the kind of driving mistake Hamilton hasn't made all year, Britain would have its fourth double world champion. Rosberg was left asking his engineer what kind of strategy they might use to claim first place. That reliability issue did come, but it struck Rosberg on Lap 26 when his entire Energy Recovery System failed, robbing him of 160 horsepower and taxing his brakes.

Our love of SUVs is killing people in the streets

Tue, Jul 17 2018

Americans are fond of supersized fast-food meals and colossal convenience-store fountain drinks, even though they're clearly bad for our health and U.S. adults keep getting fatter. We also like large vehicles, and our love affair with SUVs is killing people in the streets. According to a recent investigation by the Detroit Free Press/USA Today, the increase in SUV sales over the past several years coincides with a sharp rise in pedestrian deaths in the U.S. — up 46 percent since 2009, with nearly 6,000 people killed in 2016 alone. With SUV sales surpassing sedans in 2014 and pickups and SUVs currently accounting for 60 percent of new vehicle sales, it's no wonder Ford announced in April plans to cease U.S. sales of almost all passenger cars. And this followed Fiat Chrysler's move to virtually an all-truck, -SUV and -crossover lineup. While the Freep/USA Today investigation found that the simultaneous surge in SUV sales and pedestrian deaths comes down to vehicle size, it also points to a lack of action on the part of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), even though it knew of the dangers SUVs pose to pedestrians. Also blamed are automakers dragging their feet on implementing active safety features. Using federal accident data, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) determined that there was an 81 percent increase in single-vehicle pedestrian fatalities involving SUVs between 2009 and 2016. Freep/USA Today's analysis of the same data by counting vehicles that struck and killed pedestrians instead of the number of people killed showed a 69 percent increase in SUV involvement. As far back as 2001, researchers at Rowan University forecasted a rise in pedestrian deaths as Americans began switching to SUVs. "In the United States, passenger vehicles are shifting from a fleet populated primarily by cars to a fleet dominated by light trucks and vans," the researchers wrote, with light trucks comprising SUVs.
