Recharge Wrap-up: Nissan reveals GT-R LM Nismo, NRG plans eVgo expansion

Mon, Feb 2 2015

Nissan has officially revealed the GT-R LM Nismo LMP1 car. The hybrid Le Mans racer uses a biturbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 up front to power the front wheels, plus a kinetic energy recovery system for an extra boost. Football fans likely caught a glimpse of the car in Nissan's With Dad commercial that aired during the Super Bowl, but the company has a couple more videos that show the car off quite well provided below. "This is innovation that excites," Says Nismo president Shoichi Miyatani. "Sustainability is at the top of our agenda, and the technical regulations for Le Mans give us the freedom to pursue new ideas in this area." Read more at Green Car Congress, or in the press release below. The NRG eVgo charging network now operates 120 DC fast charging stations in California. 60 of those are "Freedom Stations," offering both CHAdeMO and CCS charging cables, and 52 more of these are in the works. NRG plans to expand the eVgo network to 25 US markets in the next two years (up from the current 10), including chargers in Tennessee, as well as linking cities along the near entirety of the East and West coasts. Read more at Green Car Reports. Tesla has opened its 20th Supercharger station in the UK. The company says it will offer full UK coverage by the end of 2015. As of now, the Supercharger network extends as far north as Edinburgh, southwest to Exeter, and to Maidstone in the southeast, which is just up the road from access to mainland Europe through the English Channel Tunnel. Tesla operates more than 1,600 Superchargers worldwide at over 300 stations, with 129 stations and more than 670 Superchargers in Europe. Read more at Hybrid Cars. 2016 Mercedes C-Class Coupe offers S-Class style on a budget

Tue, Sep 15 2015

This is the new Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe and it's the new best-looking vehicle in the small, luxury, sport coupe market. Bold praise, you say? Well, check out the live photos up top and let us know if you still disagree. As previously mentioned, the C-Class Coupe uses the same tactic as its four-door brother, aping the look of the flagship S-Class, but on a smaller, far more affordable scale. That means the same bold but sophisticated front fascia, slim, horizontally oriented taillights, and strong character line as the S-Class Coupe. It's a similar deal in the cabin, where Mercedes stuck with the aluminum and leather-heavy styling of the S-Class. It's a handsome cockpit for sure, complete with a meaty, flat-bottomed steering wheel and prominent display atop the dash. Although like its big brother, those backseats are there more for show than anything else, thanks to that plunging, fastback-like roofline. Expect the engine options on the C-Class Coupe to mirror those on the four-door sedan, with a base 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder, a twin-turbocharged V6, and eventually, a range-topping, fire-breathing C63 AMG. You can guess which one we're most eager to drive. Rear-wheel drive should be standard, although expect Mercedes' popular 4Matic all-wheel-drive system to be a popular option. Seven-speed automatic transmissions should be the order of the day, while the C63 will get some incarnation of the brand's AMG Speedshift line. As we suggested at the beginning of this story, you should check out our full gallery of photos direct from the floor of the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show.

Lewis Hamilton accepts Vettel's apology, has 'utmost respect'

Thu, Jul 6 2017

SPIELBERG, Austria - Triple world champion Lewis Hamilton said he still had "the utmost respect" for Formula One title rival Sebastian Vettel after accepting a public apology from the Ferrari driver on Thursday. Speaking to reporters at a crowded Austrian Grand Prix news conference, the two men addressed a "road rage" controversy that has dominated the headlines since the June 25 race in Azerbaijan. "I still have the utmost respect for him as a driver and will continue to race him hard through the rest of the season," declared Hamilton, who said at the time that Vettel had "disgraced himself" by driving into him in Baku. He said Vettel called him on the Monday after the race and then texted an apology, which he accepted. The championship leader had driven into the back of Hamilton's Mercedes while both were following the safety car in first and second places, waiting for it to return to the pits. Vettel then pulled alongside, gesticulating angrily, before banging wheels. The German, a four times world champion, later accused Hamilton of "brake-testing" him by slowing suddenly. The car's telemetry subsequently showed that was not the case and Hamilton said the accusation was one he particularly wanted correcting. Vettel was handed a 10-second stop-and-go penalty, and finished fourth. He was then summoned to a hearing in Paris last Monday where the governing body declared the matter closed. Initially reluctant to dwell on the matter, saying he did not want to "pump this up more than it is already", the Ferrari driver on Thursday repeated the written apology. "It was the wrong move to drive alongside him and hit his tyres," he said. "I don't think there was any bad intention (by Hamilton). I don't think he actually brake-tested me. I was upset and over-reacted. I am not proud of the moment." Hamilton, 14 points behind Vettel after eight races, missed out on victory in Baku after a headrest worked loose and he had to pit. He finished fifth. Before Baku, the two world champions had made much of their mutual respect and the budding "bromance" seemed to be back on. "It's nice to hear that we are able to move forward," Vettel said. "I think the respect we have for each other on and off track helps us in this regard." Reporting by Alan Baldwin Related Video:
