I am selling my 1984 Mercedes 300TD (123D). It now has 171400 original miles. There are fairly new Bridgestones all the way around and the inspection runs through June of 2014. This is originally a southern car and has the sort of body and finish you might expect from not having seen many northern winters. The previous owner replaced much of the interior fabrics, seating, molding, etc. The driver's seat has a bit of a sag which wouldn't be hard to fix if I could just get to it. Recently I had the master cylinder replaced, the support bearing yoke for the drive shaft and the starter (have receipts). I have had the generator rebuilt. Starts easily and runs great. While I love to drive it, the wife and daughter are not impressed, and I cannot justify keeping it. It's just what cars used to be, maybe supposed to be before becoming the chick-a-fied computer-driven appliances they are so often nowadays. I have not technically measured the mileage, but an educated guess says 30-35 in daily driving. Both the transmission and turbo are responsive. Full-sized spare and pretty much everything works, though the AC could be recharged. Check out the pictures and email with questions.

Jalopnik and Consumer Reports see who can pull off the best snow drift

The weather throughout much of the United States is pretty awful at the moment with some combination of extremely low temperatures, inches of snow and maybe some ice underneath it all. The folks at Jalopnik and Consumer Reports are making the absolute best out of a difficult situation by heading to CR's snow-covered test track and attempting to make the longest drift in a quartet of very different performance vehicles. Jalopnik brought along a Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG S Wagon, a Subaru WRX STI, a BMW 228i and a 1973 Volkswagen Baja Bug (heck yeah!) for the challenge. Also, the track was perfect for this group, with a mix of packed snow in places and still a few inches of unsullied powder in spots too. Ostensibly the goal was to get the tail to step out through a particular corner, but in reality this was more about having hilarious fun in the snow with fast cars. The result just looks like the best time humanly possible in this weather.

Gullwing America turns SLS AMG Roadster into stunning 1955 300 SC redux

Gullwing America specializes in what it calls "retro styling meets modern technology." It's next demonstration of that is the convertible above, a stylized recreation of the 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SC (inset) supported by the structure of a 2012 SLS AMG Roadster. Commissioned by a client in Eastern Europe, the resulting car is called the 300 SLC.
The hand-formed aluminum bodywork required just a few changes to the SLS AMG Roadster, namely reworking the headlights into a stacked arrangement of LEDs and relocating the pop-up spoiler behind the cabin. The retro grille and long, straight hood evoke the past, the custom exhaust, height-adjustable suspension, 21-inch wheels up front and 22-inch wheels in back, however, stray a little further from history. The 300 SLC will come with a hardtop and be one-of-a-kind, making it even rarer than its inspiration, of which 92 were made.
