I purchased the 300 7 years ago and have driven it about 3500 miles. Its been a summer car and stored indoors the rest of the year. I have acquired 25 collectors over the years and need to sell a few, although I'd rather buy than sell. This might be the only car I own that there is nothing I need to do to be perfect. I love to drive it and its a cruiser at 85 MPH all day and with a 13 gallon bio diesel reserve it can go almost 900 miles without a refill, although Ive never done it. The paint is beautiful and the underside looks like it is a year old, dirty but absolutely no rust, not even a trace. Still has original exhaust, as well as everything else. The interior is impeccable, carpets and seats are excellent. I would drive across the country and back tomorrow. The bio diesel conversion is really trick, just a flip of the switch and you're running on vegetable oil, that easy. Air condition works every summer and everything else works perfect, even the original radio.I switched the wheels over to the next series type and they are 16 inch with continental 215/60-16 tires, about 1500 miles. The original spare is in the trunk, but not in the compartment because the bio diesel tank fits in there. The wheels are perfect, no marks and the tire size looks good and handles even better than stock. Speedo is off by 5 miles an hour but it cruises at highway speeds easier. This engine is just starting to break in and is actually very peppy for a diesel. The transmission shifts really nice, I had a specialist tune it perfect and Ive driven others that shift very hard. I will truly miss this car as I always loved this classic look but the next lucky person will have many years of enjoyment as I have. If for any reason you don't think this is the car for you after seeing it, you will not be obligated to buy it. I wont ask for a deposit but if you cant pick it up after 2 weeks of the auction I will sell it to the next bidder. I am straight up and never want someone stuck with a car that is not what they thought it was. I have sold a few cars and my feedback is good on selling. Good luck bidding.

2014 Mercedes SL and SLK add small expansion to Takata airbag recall

Fri, 11 Jul 2014

Mercedes-Benz is the latest automaker to be affected by Takata's massive airbag recall. The company has announced a voluntary recall campaign on a small number of model-year 2014 SLK- and SL-Class roadsters.
In Mercedes' case, 300 vehicles are affected, 200 of which are in the hands of customers. According to spokesperson Donna Boland, the affected roadsters were built between March and April of this year.
The issue, which is apparently the fault of one of Takata's subcontractors, rests with some improperly installed fasteners, which could keep the airbag from performing the way it's supposed to. According to Boland, Mercedes isn't sure what, if any, injuries the recalled airbags could cause, but simply claims there's an increased risk in these particular vehicles. There's been no reported instances of the faulty airbags deploying on a customer and the original issue was found in a production test.

Gullwing America turns SLS AMG Roadster into stunning 1955 300 SC redux

Thu, 14 Feb 2013

Gullwing America specializes in what it calls "retro styling meets modern technology." It's next demonstration of that is the convertible above, a stylized recreation of the 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SC (inset) supported by the structure of a 2012 SLS AMG Roadster. Commissioned by a client in Eastern Europe, the resulting car is called the 300 SLC.
The hand-formed aluminum bodywork required just a few changes to the SLS AMG Roadster, namely reworking the headlights into a stacked arrangement of LEDs and relocating the pop-up spoiler behind the cabin. The retro grille and long, straight hood evoke the past, the custom exhaust, height-adjustable suspension, 21-inch wheels up front and 22-inch wheels in back, however, stray a little further from history. The 300 SLC will come with a hardtop and be one-of-a-kind, making it even rarer than its inspiration, of which 92 were made.
If you have any more questions, they can probably be answered in the high-res photo gallery above and press release below.

The Mansory Speranza proves that money can buy taste and good sense...

Tue, 05 Mar 2013

...Just kidding.
No one in their right mind has ever accused German tuners Mansory of being subtle. So, when our Geneva team wandered across the Mansory Speranza - A Mercedes-Benz Gelandewagen that has been denuded of its roof and spackled inside with quilted leather and red carbon fiber - they didn't ask a lot of existential questions. Why does the Speranza exist? Because Germans are weird sometimes, that's why.
Forget for a moment that you'll have to pay Mansory hundreds of thousands of euros (we're guessing, no pricing information has been revealed) for the privilege of converting your G-Class into something that looks like a Suzuki Samurai, and prepare to be impressed by the details. The tuning house has increased the output of the Mercedes V8 to a healthy 700 horsepower and 668 pound-feet of torque. The wheels are 24-inches, and wear almost unbelievable 305-section ultra-high performance Vresdestein tires. Carbon fiber can be found nearly everywhere one looks, including making up the housing for the spare tire. Oh, and there are leather pillows for the backseats... no word on whether they're standard or optional, but we're looking in to it.
