1987 MERCEDES BENZ 300TD Turbo Diesel Wagon

Up for auction is a 1987 Mercedes 300 TD.  I purchased this from the original owner, who was a Mercedes collector. He was about to retire to Florida and was selling his cars. I jumped at the chance to own one of these fabled 300 wagons with the best 6 cylinder diesel engine ever made. Shortly after buying it, I moved out to a rural location and found that I needed a 4x4 and the 300 has been in covered storage since. I think it's time to let it go so it can be out on the road, where it wants to be!

The vehicle is in very good shape for it's age, inside and out. Most people can't believe it's an '87. A few tiny dings and scratches to be seen from up close. The paint is in good shape; no fading or chipping. No visible rust at the jack points or on the body. Automatic transmission shifts smoothly. A couple of issues to mention: The original Becker radio is not displaying one of the numbers of the radio station correctly. The tiny wipers on the headlights don't work but I didn't find any '87s with those working. Since taking it out of storage, the power radio antenna and the driver's window are not working. If you hold the window switch and put your hand on the window itself, you can help it up and down. Seems like something is not catching correctly in the door because the glass starts to move a bit on it's own and then stops. All other windows and the sunroof work fine, so I assume it's not a vacuum issue.

I put a brand new battery in when I purchased the car and i also bought 2 service manuals and an all season car cover. There are the original MB rubber floor mats throughout, including the rear cargo area. There is a 3rd row of rear facing seats that fold out from the floor of the cargo area. Comes with 4 additional snow tires mounted on MB rims! Also, some random engine and interior parts the last owner had in his shop and gave to me. The engine was replaced at around 150 thousand. He didn't have the exact number. He said that the new engine has the 2nd generation head, which is the sought after one. He was a MB guy, so all work was done by Mercedes techs.

The winner will arrange to pick up the car within a week of the auction's ending date at my place in MA, 80 minutes from Boston, 45 minutes from Amherst, 40 minutes from Greenfield. Payment can be made at the time of pickup in cash, or pre-paid by bank transfer. All sales are final, no returns. Please ask all questions and/or come check it out before you bid. Bid with total confidence; look at my 15+ years of perfect feedback as a seller. Have fun and good luck!

These are the cars with the best and worst depreciation after 5 years

Thu, Nov 19 2020

The average new vehicle sold in America loses nearly half of its initial value after five years of ownership. No surprise there; we all expect that shiny new car to start depreciating as soon as we drive it off the lot. But some vehicles lose value a lot faster than others. According to data provided by iSeeCars.com, trucks and truck-based sport utility vehicles generally hold their value better than other vehicle types, with the Jeep Wrangler — in both four-door Unlimited and standard two-door styles — and Toyota Tacoma sitting at the head of the pack. The Jeep Wrangler Unlimited's average five-year depreciation of 30.9% equals a loss in value of $12,168. That makes Jeep's four-door off-roader the best overall pick for buyers looking to minimize depreciation. The Toyota Tacoma's 32.4% loss in initial value means it loses just $10,496. The smaller dollar amount — the least amount of money lost after five years — indicates that Tacoma buyers pay less than Wrangler Unlimited buyers, on average, when they initially buy the vehicle. The standard two-door Jeep Wrangler is third on the list, depreciating 32.8% after five years and losing $10,824. Click here for a full list of the top 10 vehicles with the least depreciation over five years. On the other side of the depreciation coin, luxury sedans tend to plummet in value at a much faster rate than other vehicle types. The BMW 7 Series leads the losers with a 72.6% drop in value after five years, which equals an alarming $73,686. BMW's slightly smaller 5 Series is next, depreciating 70.1%, or $47,038, over the same period. Number three on the biggest losers list is the Nissan Leaf, the only electric vehicle to appear in the bottom 10. The electric hatchback matches the 5 Series with a 70.1% drop in value, but since it's a much cheaper vehicle, that percentage equals a much smaller $23,470 loss. 2015 Mercedes-AMG C63 S Review

Mon, Jul 6 2015

"It's about great cars on great roads." The late David E. Davis, Jr., said this of Winding Road when he took the reins as editor-in-chief in 2006. Our mission at that magazine was to not just review cars, but to describe the emotional experience of piloting brilliant machines down beautiful roads. "The art of driving," per David E. This all comes flooding back into my mind as I pull out of a Shell station onto Angeles Crest Highway, just south of the 210 freeway in La Canada Flintridge, CA. I'm in the 2015 Mercedes-AMG C63 S. I've got a full tank of fuel, the whole day to myself, and I'm staring down one of the finest driving roads in the country. Prior to this moment, I spent two days bombing around the greater Los Angeles area in this sinister-looking C63 S. This car is a villain, and looks appropriately so in black paint with the $750 AMG Exterior Night Styling pack. The C-Class as a whole is far more upscale in this latest generation, with its long hood, cab-rearward design, and short rear deck. "Baby S-Class" is not an exaggeration. Thankfully, the addition of AMG bits don't detract from the new C's more premium aura. Where a BMW M3 just looks like a brash 3 Series, the C63 is more like a C400 with a trick up its sleeve. The 4.0-liter V8 is an exceptional engine. Start the engine, and there's no question you're blessed with the power of AMG. Any worries I had about the new, twin-turbocharged, 4.0-liter V8 not providing enough aural delight are gone, especially with the $1,250 AMG Performance Exhaust. At start-up there's a low, burbly sound quality, typical of a V8. At full throttle, it's loud, angry, and passionate. I will always miss the naturally aspirated, 6.2-liter M156 V8 from the last C63, not only for its noise, but for its character. That said, I eagerly welcome Mercedes' new turbocharged techniques. The 4.0-liter V8 is an exceptional engine. In C63 S guise, the M178 lump makes 503 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque, the latter of which comes on in full force as low as 1,750 rpm. That's a ton of power for the 3,935-pound C63. But it never feels like there's too much to handle. Power comes on progressively, and when I mash the throttle on a straight stretch of pavement, the car is composed and controlled. And quick. Seriously quick. Zero-to-sixty-in-under-four-seconds quick. The balance between viciousness and grace is perfectly met in this new C63.

The BMW M8 leads this month's list of discounts

Mon, Sep 21 2020

Back in June of this year, the BMW 8 Series was the most heavily discounted vehicle in America. This month, it's the 617-horsepower M8. Midsummer buyers of the 2020 BMW M8, which is offered in hardtop, convertible and four-door Gran Coupe bodystyles, were seeing an average of $6,150 cut off the sticker; this month that figure has ballooned all the way to $16,864. That's more than 11% off the car's $150,000-plus retail price, and, according to data provided by TrueCar, it's the largest dollar amount sliced off the retail price of any car for the month of September. Next is the Maserati Quattroporte, buyers of which are saving $15,912 for an average transaction price of $99,763. If that's still too expensive, the smaller Ghibli's $70,030 average transaction price represents a huge 14.5% discount, earning the Italian sedan entry into our monthly top 10 best deals list.  The third largest monetary discount in September comes off the $131,066 sticker price of the lovely 2019 Mercedes-AMG GT. Take $15,473 off that sum for an average transaction price of $115,593.
