1985 Mercedes-Benz 280ce 300 series coupe. This is a European import and this engine / chassis was never sold in USA for model year 1985. This car has 135,750 miles and is 28 years old. It is in good condition, but it is not perfect. I've contacted Mercedes-Benz classic and they have provided the following build information: shipped 7/26/84, Lapis Blue Metallic paint, quartz cloth interior, and the following options:

   410 Electric sliding roof
   420 automatic transmission
   451 tachometer
   466 central locking system
   470 anti-lock brakes
504 outside rear view mirror, right, electrically adjustable
510 becker radio mexico (NOT included)
   531 automatic antenna
   570 folding armrest front
585 air conditioning / power front windows
   590 heat-insulating glass
   640 light alloy wheels
   673 high capacity battery
   682 fire extinguisher (NOT included)
   835 coir mats (NOT included)
   873 heated front seats

This car is a european import and has several features that were not available in the US including cloth seats, the 2.8 liter gasoline engine, and manual crank rear windows. The air conditioning has been converted to r134a and is in good working condition. This car has the simpler European air conditioning / climate controls. There is a little wear on the driver seat bolster and the transmission shifts abruptly (may be a loose vacuum line). i have NOT tested the sunroof or heated seats. The headlights and bumpers have been converted to US specification. The car has a newer Mercedes radio, but it is not hooked up. there are some cracks / chips in the wood veneer on the center console. The car has new spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor, rotor, and air filter. it also has a fresh oil change and coolant flush. I recently used this car in a Mercedes-Benz Club of America, Fort Worth section, road rally and it performed well. Pictures can be seen here picasaweb.google.com/mbcaftw/TheTriplePRallyFortWorthTX. The paint is good but there is some fading around the trunk. and some yellowing of the rear windshield, in the center at the base. This car recently passed Texas state inspection and is registered as a classic vehicle. car is sold AS-IS, with NO warranty. local pickup preferred, otherwise buyer arranges and pays for all shipping costs. a $500 dollar deposit via pay pal is required within 24 hours of auction close. full payment via certified check or cash is required within 5 days of auction close, and the car must be picked up within 7 days of auction close. no international bidders. vin is wdb1230531a178164

Audi RS6 Avant and Mercedes-AMG E63 S drag race for Top Gear

Thu, Apr 14 2016

Sometimes the kids are late for school, and you need a wagon to get them there in a hurry. In its latest drag race, Top Gear finds out which is the quicker high-performance family hauler: the Audi RS6 Avant or the Mercedes-AMG E63 S. The specs suggest this race should be quite close at the finish line. The RS6 has a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 with 552 horsepower, but the E63 S is a little more powerful with 577 hp from a 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8. However, the Audi has a traction advantage from the all-wheel drive system, whereas the Mercedes only spins its rear wheels. Pick your favorite, and then watch the video to see if the similar numbers translate to a photo finish in the real world. Related Video:

Maybach and Aston Martin alliance talks fall apart

Tue, 27 Sep 2011

If you have, like us, been salivating at the notion of a new generation of Maybach and Lagonda ultra-luxury crafts built by Aston Martin, we've got some bad news: According to reports emanating from Germany, talks between AML and Daimler have broken down.
The proposal under negotiation would have seen Daimler outsourcing production of the next family of Maybach models to Aston Martin, which in return would benefit from Mercedes-Benz platforms and engines - not only for its svelte GTs, but also for its own future Lagonda line of limousines and luxury SUVs. That, and a boatload of money - or at least that's what AML was reportedly seeking, an issue that served as the stumbling block over which the deal reportedly collapsed.
That's not to say the two parties couldn't still reach some sort of a compromise, but short of that, Daimler may opt to either shut down Maybach altogether, find another partner, or take another stab at building new models internally.

Lewis Hamilton owns 15 cars, uses tow trucks to keep the mileage low

Thu, Aug 2 2018

No matter how you feel about Lewis Hamilton off the track, it's impossible not to respect his talent behind the wheel. Currently, Hamilton is the second most successful Formula One driver of all time. His 67 wins and four championships place him only behind Michael Schumacher's 91 wins and seven championships. With all those winnings, Hamilton has racked up a decent personal fortune, much of which he uses to buy cars. Except he doesn't drive them quite as much as you might think. According to The Sunday Times, Hamilton's net worth of just over $207 million makes him one of the richest sports figures in the UK, just behind David Beckham. In a recent interview with the British newspaper, Hamilton gave some details on his personal car collection. His first car was a used Mini Cooper, soon followed by a Mercedes-Benz C200. Both have long since been replaced by a pair of original Shelby Cobras, a 1967 Shelby GT500, a Ferrari 599 SA Aperta, two LaFerraris (a red coupe and a white Aperta), a McLaren P1 and a Pagani Zonda 760 equipped with a manual transmission. All in, Hamilton has about 15 cars split between homes in Monaco and Los Angeles. Unsurprisingly, he has a Mercedes-AMG Project One ( a car that shares more than a little with his F1 W09 EQ Power+ race car) on the way. Hamilton has some hot takes on his personal collection. "The Zonda is terrible to drive," he said. "It's the best-sounding car I own, but handling-wise it's the worst. I got it in manual because I didn't like the tiptronic version. The tiptronic Pagani offered was worse than the Smart Roadster I had." He also says his Shelby Mustang is a "beautiful car, but a heap of junk." In order to keep the miles down (and valuations up), Hamilton apparently has a tow truck on retainer in Los Angeles. When he's finished driving one of his Ferraris, he'll have the car towed back to his place. Classic cars are becoming a solid and serious investment, and Hamilton doesn't want to squander his wealth like some other athletes. That said, there are a couple more cars Hamilton would love to own, including a Mercedes-Benz 300 SL (the one with the gullwing doors) and a Ferrari 250GT California Spyder (the one from "Ferris Bueller's Day Off").
