I have been collecting these specific cars for almost a decade. This one and my orange on orange 2 door are the last and best 2 of my entire collection.
Please bid with enthusiasm and realize that you may never see a car like this ever again. I am sorry to see them go. All my auction sales to date have received a feedback rating of 100% and I take pride in knowing that I am making automotive dreams come true. You can call me with offers or questions at 323-467-7870 I do reserve the right to remove the auction at any time for any reason but please respect the auction process and don't wait until the last day to show up with the cash because Ebay does not allow an auction to be removed on its last day… I learned this the hard way. This car will go up in value every year so you will be able to sell it for more than you bought it for provided you care for it. I just cannot afford to keep up my storage garage anymore and I refuse to store my cars outside. I purchased this car from an Asian car collector who had an industrial warehouse in Longbeach near the ports. He had a vast array of diesels in the collection and most of them were outside rotting in the sun! This one however was the obvious choice for me due to the fact that I had been searching for a black on black 85 for over 5 years! The paint was fading on the hood and there were some scratches here and there so I had it painted with factory paint in the same color. Now I have had many of these cars and had 12 at one time but I have to say they all vary from one to another. One car will be slow and sluggish and all the maintenance has been done to improve the engine, some get better gas milage and some kill the battery if left for months. This car is special, it has all the boxes checked including that incredible trademark smell that only these cars have. You would never guess that this car has 152k miles… it looks and feels brand new. The reserve price will not be set lower than expected by some who know what this car is, its real value, know how many were made in black on black and have survived especially in this condition with the classic and legendary om617.952 motor. This, the last hoorah from Mercedes sported an updated turbo for the last year of production which in this case is functioning just as if it just left the factory. The California Title was issued in 1985 and is clear. Also to add interest this car is the most desirable year in the most desirable color combination of any 300 diesel series ever produced. This car not only looks new but drives, feels and smells brand new too. I turn to this car as a daily driver and would drive it to any long distance destination without a second thought. This is a perfect car for road trips. Ok that all being said... I'll try to include all the info I can: Maintenance done at regular intervals with NO expense spared Complete all point inspection just completed by my Mercedes Certified mechanic - this car checks out perfect Receipts and logs of upkeep done - no accidents or body repairs Garaged and babied - never smoked or eaten in this car PAINT - Repainted paint looks pristine and done to factory spec - I had it painted a couple of years ago and the paint is flawless and the car looks brand new Clear California title with no bad car fax or any other title or registration issues Registration current - these cars never need to be smogged btw - they are smog exempt Bumpers show no chrome wear or scuffing Brakes in excellent condition Parking brake also excellent Rubber parts all around look superb and subtle with no signs of age whatsoever Seals are factory plump and doors shut like a vacuum - clunk... that Mercedes engineering air pocket thump when the door shuts Window rubber seals are excellent with windows shutting as they should not letting air or water enter the cabin Grill as new with inserts and chrome showing zero age No leaks from any part of the car Clean under carriage with no leaks or any rust of any kind Bushings are excellent Suspension and shocks are A1 Steering is perfect with power assist in factory condition - no play at all - as new Alignment is straight as an arrow ENGINE compartment clean and not detailed - this is the way this car sits - yes it is that good Motor starts right up with factory specification Glow plug glow light illuminates for less than 3 seconds Car starts immediately even if car has been sitting for months No smoking exhaust or issues of any kind whatsoever Motor purrs and smells so good - love that 30 miles approximately to the gallon - subject to verification but I swear I get more, it depends on how you drive Spare tire chrome wheel as new Chrome wheels in excellent, not perfect but excellent condition Tools for tire removal intact First Aid kit intact and never opened All emblems in tip top condition Tires are old, they have lots of tread left but could use changing, nice to have new rubber. Fri, Oct 29 2021In this episode of the Autoblog Podcast, Editor-in-Chief Greg Migliore is joined by Senior Editor James Riswick. They've been driving some exciting new EVs, like the Ford Mustang Mach-E GT and the Mercedes-Benz EQS. They also discuss driving the new Subaru Forester Wilderness, as well as the perfectly agreeable Toyota Camry XSE Hybrid. James compares four big-name off-roaders — the Ford Bronco, Jeep Wrangler, Toyota 4Runner and Land Rover Defender — based on their ability to accommodate a big load of luggage. Next they reach into the mailbag for comments on the Genesis GV70, as well as a Spend My Money question about replacing a wrecked Subaru Ascent with another three-row SUV. 2019 BMW M850i xDrive: How it compares on paper with other GT coupes
Wed, Jul 11 2018Although the hot new vehicles for the rich seem to mainly comprise SUVs and supercars, the neglected luxury GT coupe segment is starting to see some life again. The latest to add a spark to this set is the 2019 BMW M850i xDrive. It goes on sale later this year, and revives the 8 Series that's been dead since the 1990s. The first version available to Americans will be one with a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8, with other versions likely following. Before it launches, we wanted to get a lay of the grand-touring land and see how the new BMW stacks up to the competition in performance, practicality and price. While some of these models have higher-performance or more-affordable iterations, we picked the versions that would be the closest match to this 8 Series model. They include the 2019 Lexus LC 500, 2018 Mercedes-Benz SL 550, 2018 Mercedes-Benz S 560 Coupe and the 2018 Maserati GranTurismo. We will also provide some short summaries on our experiences with these cars, but to get a full picture of each model, be sure to check out their full reviews. And if you want to compare any of these cars with models you don't see here, be sure to try out our car comparison tool. Engines, transmissions and performance On paper, the BMW M850i xDrive is clearly the performer of the group. It has the most power and torque at 523 horsepower and 553 pound-feet. Coupled with all-wheel-drive and an eight-speed automatic, the car is able to overcome its relatively portly 4,478-pound curb weight to hit 60 mph in a scant 3.6 seconds. That's more than half a second quicker than the lightest car in the group, the Mercedes-Benz SL550, which weighs 4,012 pounds. The other three vehicles are in the low- to mid-4-second range to 60 mph. Though the Maserati is the slowest to 60 mph, it does boast the highest top speed of 186 mph. The M850i and SL 550 are electronically limited to 155 mph, while the Lexus is limited to 168 mph. The Mercedes S 560 has the lowest top speed at an electronically limited 130 mph. View 52 Photos Of interest is that there's a 50/50 split among these cars between using a pair of turbos, and having none at all. The BMW and Mercedes resort to forced induction, whereas the Lexus and Maserati choose to stay naturally aspirated. This is likely why the Germans break 500 pound-feet of torque, while the others don't make it to 400. Also interesting is the spread of gear quantity. The Maserati has just six ratios to choose from, and the Lexus has a whopping 10.
First official shot of Mercedes S-Class Coupe leaks out
Mon, 10 Feb 2014With the official debut for the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe expected tomorrow, it shouldn't be a surprise that some clicky fingers have already managed to uncover an official image of the car before the unveiling. Outside of this sole image, though, there's precious little detail on the new car.
First posted by Autofilou and then picked up by WorldCarFans, the production S-Class Coupe isn't far off from the concept car we saw a few months back in Frankfurt. Like the concept, the leggy production model appears related, albeit distantly, to the S-Class Sedan. The hood and front fascia are longer and lower, befitting of a two-door, while the character lines in the profile are more pronounced. Obviously, the beltline and slim, B-pillarless greenhouse are coupe-only items. We can't see any details on the back of the car, although it does appear that the long hood has a correspondingly short rear deck.
We'll have all the details on the official replacement for the CL-Class when it makes its full debut tomorrow. Until then, what do you think of this lone image? Does it appear that Mercedes has got it right? In terms of design, where would you rank this with the departing CL-Class? Have your say in Comments.
