Up for sale is this beautiful 1985 Mercedes benz 300 Turbo diesel sedan . The car has 115k miles and only 2 owners since new. This car is alpine white over palamino MB text . The paint is very shiny and looks excellent only a few minor imperfections that arent noticable . The Interior I will call nearly pristine . The seats look like they are new no wear at all They are very firm and solid. The door panels are all excellent , the trim around the windows when you open the doors is excellent as well they usually dry up and krinkle . The headliner , carpets and wood are all in excellent condition as well as is the dash its crack free and looks new. Inside the car all the electronics works properly . The climate control swithces from hot to cold . The Ac is ice cold and works perfect . All the power windows work as does the power sunroof. Even the Cruise control works perfect which is rare for these cars. It has a aftermarket Cd player that works great also the power antenna works and extends when the button is pushed.  I bought the car from a couple who lives here in wi. they owed the car for about 9 years. It was there 5 th car and only driven by the wife.It never seen snow or a winter . There is no rust on the body and its very solid . The rocker panels are like new as are the jack points. Her husband was a mercedes mechanic in madison so he did all the work for himself so i dont have any records on the car . But My dad and I did go through it and we inspected the car to a high standard. The tires are in excellent condition, the brakes feel very good and stop well. We changed the Oil with shell rotella 15/40 which is the same oil that was used by the 2 previous owners. New fuel filters, I replaced the headlight doors to make the front apperance look like new again. The car was just highly detailed and looks amazing. This is the last year of the 123 300 D it was considered the best car Mercedes ever built with many recordings of the engines going 1 million miles . I believe this one can easily. It has alot of power and drives amazing. It doesn't shake at all and is very smooth. The transmission also shifts effortlessly and has no issues . I would drive this car to California tomorrow and back . There is not a better car to travel in. I did get about 35 mpg on my trip back which was nearly 200 miles. Please bid with confidence and check out the auto check its perfect and shows no accidents . I also have a copy for the new owner. Please call me with any questions you might have . I know someone will get a great car and last them many years. Steve 954-464-3515

Car has original spare tire and tools and first aid kit  .

* There is a small chip in the chrome on the lower rear bumper and also a few hair lines checks in the paint which are from the original laquer again not noticable at all.  I wanted to mention it but for the car being a 1985 I would say its a beautiful example.

Mercedes Concept IAA shows its mighty morphing aero aids

Tue, Sep 15 2015

Modern supercars are utilizing more active aerodynamic elements that constantly adjust, to make them some of the fastest things on the road. The Mercedes-Benz Concept Intelligent Aerodynamic Automobile is using them too, but the know-how is applied here for ultimate efficiency rather than turning better lap times. In the standard design mode, the four-door luxury coupe looks like a CLS from the near future with styling that's mixed with a little of the F 015 concept. However at the press of a button or upon hitting about 50 miles per hour, the IAA transforms into aero mode to have an insanely low drag coefficent of just 0.19. To achieve the ultra-efficient shape, the rear of the concept stretches over 15 inches to guide air down the tail. Flaps in the bumpers also extend outward, and the wheels adjust to improve the flow around the sides. To trim things out underneath, a portion inside the front bumper moves, as well. Inside, passengers sit in organically shaped leather seats, but occupants have to look at a vast array of purple and blue LED accent lights. The big panoramic roof is a nice touch, though. It would be interesting to watch water tumble over this slippery shape when driving in the rain. To maximize efficiency, Mercedes powers the IAA with a plug-in hybrid that's hooked up to a gasoline engine. The result is 275 horsepower and an electronically limited top speed of 155 miles per hour. On the European testing cycle, the company figures the concept could cover 41 miles solely on electric power in aero mode. Showing the gains of the swoopy transformation, that figure falls to 38.5 miles in design mode.

More German automakers may be afoul of US emission standards

Wed, Sep 23 2015

Volkswagen has plenty of smoke to share, and that may mean fire for other German automakers that make diesel vehicles, says Automotive News. Earlier this month, European Federation for Transport and Environment said that BMW, Daimler's Mercedes-Benz and General Motor's Opel division are among other automakers that may have equipped their vehicles' diesel engines with similar software as VW's. That software was found to reduce emissions while a car is being tested for emissions and shuts down emissions-control systems during normal use. The European environmental group used data from the International Council on Clean Transportation. Automotive News notes that the European environmental group put out its own report earlier this month, before the VW scandal broke loose, but the report was pretty much overlooked. Now, VW is under fire after it was discovered that 2.0-liter diesel engines in the VW Jetta and Golf, and Audi A3, may be programmed to game the emissions system. VW sold almost a half-million diesel vehicles in the US during the past six years. Both BMW and Mercedes-Benz told Automotive News that the issue that befell VW doesn't apply to their diesel vehicles. Earlier this week, Volkswagen admitted its car ran the sneaky software, while the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has started a probe on the company. VW is setting aside more than $7 billion to pay for the alleged violations. Meanwhile, US taxpayers may have spent as much as $51 million a year to pay for subsidies related to VW's diesel vehicle sales in 2009 alone, according to the Los Angeles Times.

8 automakers, 15 utilities collaborate on open smart-charging for EVs

Thu, Jul 31 2014

We're going to lead with General Motors here. GM is one of eight automakers working with 15 utilities and the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) at developing a "smart" plug-in vehicle charging system. Why did we start with GM? Because it's the first automaker whose press release we read that mentioned the other seven automakers. Points for sharing. For the record, the collaboration also includes BMW, Toyota, Mercedes-Benz, Honda, Chrysler, Mitsubishi and Ford. The utilities include DTE Energy, Duke Energy, Southern California Edison and Pacific Gas & Electric. The idea is to develop a so-called "demand charging" system in which an integrated system lets the plug-ins and utilities communicate with each other so that vehicle charging is cut back at peak hours, when energy is most expensive, and ramped up when the rates drop. Such entities say there's a sense of urgency to develop such a system because the number of plug-in vehicles on US roads totals more than 225,000 today and is climbing steadily. There's a lot of technology involved, obviously, but the goal is to have an open platform that's compatible with virtually any automaker's plug-in vehicle. No timeframe was disclosed for when such a system could go live but you can find a press release from EPRI below. EPRI, Utilities, Auto Manufacturers to Create an Open Grid Integration Platform for Plug-in Electric Vehicles PALO ALTO, Calif. (July 29, 2014) – The Electric Power Research Institute, 8 automakers and 15 utilities are working to develop and demonstrate an open platform that would integrate plug-in electric vehicles (PEV) with smart grid technologies enabling utilities to support PEV charging regardless of location. The platform will allow manufacturers to offer a customer-friendly interface through which PEV drivers can more easily participate in utility PEV programs, such as rates for off-peak or nighttime charging. The portal for the system would be a utility's communications system and an electric vehicle's telematics system. As the electric grid evolves with smarter functionality, electric vehicles can serve as a distributed energy resource to support grid reliability, stability and efficiency. With more than 225,000 plug-in vehicles on U.S. roads -- and their numbers growing -- they are likely to play a significant role in electricity demand side management.
