1984 Mercedes-Benz 300 D

Body has significant rust underneath.  Both rear control arms are rusted.  The right side is nearly broken and thus the car should not be driven for any great distance.

This car has been my daily driver for 5 years and I have enjoyed it very much, but the rust has gotten the better of it and I have no time to or interest in fixing the control arms.   It was a midwest car from day one, so the salt as taken its toll.

The OM 617 Engine runs fine.  Radiator was replaced when I bought the car.  Transmission is good, but has the flare between 2 and 3.  I believe that can be remedied with a valve kit.  It never was very bad so I never bothered with it.  The prop shaft and joints are fine.  Rear end is fine and the cv shafts were replaced with Chinese replacements a few years back.  No problems with those.

The 4 Bunt rims are not bent.  There is a chrome bunt spare as well.  Snow tires are on the rear wheels.  Decent Pirrelli tires are on the front and the other 2 will come with the car.   All glass is good.  Dash and driver's seat are cracked.  Climate control works.  Brakes are good.  Rear window sashes are rusted so the motors are unhooked.  Front windows work fine.  Becker stereo still works, antenna is shot.  Unsure if tape deck works.  Cruise works when it feels like it.

This would be a good investment for the parts.  Or if you wanted to put control arms on it and keep ahead of the other rust, the car could live on.  I hate to just throw all these good parts away for scrap.  Good clean title in hand.

Driver's door has damage where I bounced off a stop sign. She's no beauty queen. Don't assume anything. Anything you want to know just ask. Pictures can be mailed to you.

Mercedes takes VW Westfalia Camper idea upscale with new Marco Polo

Wed, 09 Jul 2014

Earlier this year, Mercedes-Benz revealed the new V-Class. Slotting in below the popular Sprinter, the new V-Class replaced both the Viano and Vito upon its debut at the Geneva Motor Show. But Mercedes isn't quite done with it just yet. At the upcoming Caravan Salon in Düsseldorf, Germany, Mercedes will reveal the Marco Polo - a versatile, stylish and decidedly contemporary take on the classic camper van.
Named after the famous Italian explorer, the Marco Polo was converted by Westfalia, an outfit which you might more closely associate with classic VW camper vans but which Daimler absorbed over a decade ago. Offering, according to the press release below, "a maximum of opportunities to be independent, free and spontaneous," the Marco Polo sleeps four thanks to the rear bench that electrically folds flat into a bed and the second berth under the pop-top. The flexible interior is decked out like you'd expect a modern Mercedes to be, with ambient LED lighting as well as wood, metal and piano black trim.
It's got an onboard kitchenette with two gas burners, a sink and fridge with a 10 gallons of fresh water and an even bigger waste tank. All that gear is shlepped around by a choice of four-cylinder turbodiesel engines ranging in output from 136 to 190 horsepower. The relatively compact form boasts a turning circle similar to a full-size sedan and a height designed to fit into most garages and car washes. All of which just might make us reconsider the appeal of traveling by camper van.

Mercedes goes boating again with G63 AMG-inspired Cigarette

Wed, 06 Feb 2013

Cigarette Racing has another Mercedes-Benz AMG-themed boat headed out to sea. After The SLS AMG-inspired 46-foot Rough Rider in 2010 and the C63 AMG Black Series-inspired 50-foot Marauder in 2012, this year's Miami Boat Show will introduce the 42-foot Huntress, theme provided by the G63 AMG.
The latest Cigarette homage is less overly racy than the ones before, befitting a watercraft modeled off a performance SUV, but don't let the looks fool: there are five Mercury Racing Verado 350SCi outboard engines, each one of them packing a supercharged inline six-cylinder with, natch, 350 horsepower. Those 1,750 horses will be good for 78 miles per hour when you've got some saltwater underneath you.
If you're in South Florida this week, Booth B-23 at the Miami Convention Center could be your best place to see it. Otherwise, like the 536-hp G63 AMG, it could be hard to catch. There's a press release with more information below.

Mercedes CLA45 AMG Racing is ready for a spot on the grid

Tue, 10 Sep 2013

Mercedes-Benz trotted out its CLA45 AMG-based racer at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show. We first showed you the sedan in the deluge of news and reveals that precedes most good auto shows, and were blown away by the car, formally known as the CLA45 AMG Racing Series.
We were strolling by the Mercedes stand, and figured we'd pop in and take a look at the new racer and its carbon-fiber body panels, gutted interior, and race-sourced aero parts. It's a looker, both as a road car and a track weapon. It's not clear what series the CLA45 AMG will qualify for, although it does seem like a shoe-in for the World Touring Car Championship. Let us know what you think of the CLA racer down in the comments. In the meantime, we've got a full gallery of live images up top, along with the stock images that were posted last week on the Mercedes-Benz Facebook page.
