1983 Mercedes 300cd Turbo Diesel Coupe No Reserve! on 2040-cars
South Dartmouth, Massachusetts, United States
Welcome to my auction. I've owned many of these model 123 Turbo Diesels, and purchased this car a couple months ago with the intent to resale after giving it Mechanical and Cosmetic servicing. This is a no reserve auction. My ideal winning bidder will have watched the many Mercedes Repair videos by MercedesSource.com on YouTube. It is the best source of Mercedes mechanical help, and will prepare the winning bidder about how to buy and care for this Mercedes. The car starts easily, runs and drives well. Here's the details on this car: Maintenance on 10/18/2013: Valves adjusted, new Vacuum Shift Actuator, New Glow Plugs after reeming, new Fuel Filter and in-line fuel filter, Oil and filter change. Also air cleaner housing mount fixed. Mechanical topics: Wiper motor needs fixing (arms taken off and in trunk), Transmission shift early at first shift - perhaps needs adjusting or leave as-is, should you need highway ramp speed acceleration. Battery light stay on after shut off and is there's a drain on the battery over time. I remove the negative terminal to keep the battery ok for now. The window regulators and switches are untested, however I know the drivers window works fine. A/C untested. Heat and vent fan motor works ok with no smells. Dash light and fuel gauge not working, undiagnosed. Previous owner said that he replaced the rear brake shoes. It does brake well. Hood pull opener (inside car) is loose. It has a Mercedes Muffler. The exhaust system is fine. The suspension is ok, and the steering is fairly tight. Glass is original and not fogged. Window seats at doors have cracks. Cosmetic topics: Passenger door dented (opens and closes fine); previous owner removed inside door panel and started to push out dent. Right now the inside panel is off the car - I have all the interior parts for the winning bidder to put back on), rear seat leather cracked and bottom cushion passenger side is fragile. See photos of rust. I've taken photos on the Garage Lift while the car was getting serviced. The car appears to be the original paint however I can't guarantee that....it was waxed and machine buffed in October. The tires are matching and roughly 50% worn. The spare tire is old and should be replaced. It is a matching rim although not as clean as the other 4 rims. The trunk leaks after a rain storm, and puddles on the right side. I will add a photo with the Mercedes brand battery soon. I cleaned the battery tray and painted the tray as well. Extra parts available and not included in this auction: 2 used Blue color doors (Drivers and Passenger door skins with exterior trim and handles), 1 Blue trunk lid, 1 front bumper with shocks and all trim. Winning bidder can have the opportunity to view and purchase after auction end. Ask questions before bidding please. I will work with a shipping company should you need this shipped to your house, however pickup needs to be within 7 days of auction end unless arrangements are made before hand. I will add more notes on this car, based on questions from bidders and any new information that would help someone know this car. Many additional photos at this Google Images page: |

Jay Leno tells the story of his Mercedes Gullwing
Thu, Mar 26 2015With all the new and varied machinery stopping by Jay Leno's Garage on a regular basis, it would be all too easy to forget that the former talk show host has one of the largest and most enviable private collections of automobiles in the world. Leno has hundreds of vehicles at his disposal, but the real value of it all is at least as much about quality as it is quantity. Take this gem, for example. Sure, it's a little worse for wear, but it's got a nice patina to it – and it's a work in progress. One look is all it takes to know exactly what it is: a classic Mercedes-Benz 300SL, complete with Gullwing doors. "The McLaren F1 of its day," Jay calls it, and with good reason. Watch the video above to hear the story of the Gullwing he rescued from the desert and is slowly bringing back to life. Related Video:
2017 Mercedes-Maybach S650 Cabriolet includes guaranteed exclusivity
Wed, Nov 16 2016For certain buyers, the only thing better than a super-luxurious cabriolet that requires enormous sums of money to buy is a a super-luxurious cabriolet that money can't buy. That's what Daimler promises with the 2017 Mercedes-Maybach S650 Cabriolet to be unveiled at the LA Auto Show. Limited to 300 units worldwide and just 75 in the US, having just three available color combinations magnifies the exclusivity. Turning the Mercedes-Benz S-Class cabrio into a droptop worthy of the Maybach family means slight revisions outside and in, and a whole lot of Maybach badges. Instead of the three lower intakes familiar from Mercedes' corporate language, there's black mesh highlighted by a shiny design element. It's not the most graceful face from dead-on, looking sort of like a chrome-lined grimace picked up from Wallace and Gromit. A Maybach emblem adorns the fenders and gleaming kickplates, the 20-inch wheels add an edge to the brand's traditional dinner-plate design. The 6.0-liter, twin-turbo V12 carries over from the donor convertible, with the same 621 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque hooked up to a seven-speed automatic transmission. The only three color treatments available in the US will be Zircon Red with a porcelain and black interior and a black top, Cote d'Azur Blue with a porcelain and saddle interior and a beige top, and Designo Diamond White with a porcelain and Yacht Blue interior with a dark blue top. The cabin works nautical themes lifted in part from the Mercedes-Benz Style Arrow 460-Granturismo yacht. Perforations in the leather seats evoke waterfalls. The "Flowing Lines" trim ornamenting the seats comes two different colors depending on the exterior hue; either "Piano lacquer" black with the Zircon Red or Magnolia Nut Brown with the other two options. Buyers will find profuse badging in embroidered, embossed, and inlaid varieties, as well as chrome-plated "1 of 300" lettering in several places like the cup holder and steering wheel. The few lucky customers who buy an S650 will also find a four-piece set of Maybach-badged luggage in the truck, two travel bags and two weekenders tooled up in the same leather as the interior. The key fob gets finished in Porcelain leather. A car cover comes standard, in the same color as the convertible top. A certificate signed by the mustachioed one, Daimler Chairman Dr. Dieter Zetsche, provides the corporate-badged icing on the cake.
Regulators consider adding more carmakers to Takata recall
Tue, Sep 29 2015Volkswagen's diesel emissions scandal has been getting a lot of press recently, but the Takata airbag inflator affair could be grabbing headlines again soon. According to Bloomberg, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is contemplating an expansion to the campaign that could add seven automakers to the 12 already affected. They are Jaguar Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz, Spartan Motors, Suzuki, Tesla, Volvo Trucks, and VW Group. To be clear, there's no recall for any of these automakers, yet. The government is simply asking for a full list of vehicles that each of them have with Takata-supplied inflators containing ammonium nitrate propellant. The agency is concerned this substance could play a roll in the ruptures. "NHTSA is considering not only whether to issue an administrative order that would coordinate the remedy programs associated with the current Takata recalls, but also whether such an order should include expansion of the current recalls," the letters say. All seven can be viewed, here. From a report supplied by Takata, the government already knows that the company supplied 887,055 inflators with ammonium-nitrate propellant to VW and 184,926 of them to Tesla. In an incident during the summer, a side airbag allegedly burst in a 2015 VW Tiguan. In early September, NHTSA put out a revised report that there were 23.4 million inflators to be replaced in 19.2 million vehicles in the US. An earlier accounting from the agency had about 34 million of the parts in 30 million cars. High humidity is still believed to be among the biggest risk factors for the ruptures. Although, if ammonium nitrate also gets the blame, some already recalled models might need to be repaired again. Related Video:
