“The 300TD was built on the storied W123 platform, and served as the “E Class” from 1977 to 1985. The lines on W123s are timeless: Straight and clean with tasteful chrome, the W123 sits upright and looks equally suited to taking on unpaved back roads and corporate parking lots. This is a cruising car in the purest sense, as it will wallow through turns but provide absolute comfort on the bumpiest roads.

The choice model of the W123 is the 300TD, the classic shape powered by a 5-cylinder turbo-charged diesel engine. The 300TD reminds us why Mercedes was once the gold standard — it is not uncommon to find these cars pushing 500,000 miles. The OM617 fitted to the 300TD is one of the most reliable engines ever built. Truthfully, these engines don’t need exceptional maintenance, but servicing them at regular intervals will help keep them ticking for decades.” -Hagerty.com-Affordable Classics

About The Car

Born 1/82 in Sindelfingen Germany, this wonderful example of one of the best cars ever made has spent it’s entire life in California. This car has stayed in California and within the original owners’ family until now. Clean and clear California title.

Engine

With only 171k miles, the Legendary 3.0 Turbo Diesel om617 Engine starts effortlessly, hot or cold and reflects years of proper maintenance and responsible owners exercising proper warm up and cool down techniques. No excessive smoke at start-up, blow-by or oil leaks. This car has never been run on Veggie Oil, NEVER! Has optional plug-in block heater. Has stock A/C unit which is 100% intact but the r12 refrigerant is tired. An upgrade to r134a is recommended. Heater/defrost functions work perfectly. Ready to be driven anywhere.

Interior

Original Tan MB Tex (Mercedes-Benz Texturized Punctured Vinyl) interior is in fine condition, showing only minimal signs of use over the last 3 decades. Because this car was fortunate enough to be owned by responsible, non-smoking owners that always garaged it, the upholstery is in beautiful shape with very little wear and virtually zero “bleaching” from the sun as most others of this era display. The car smells fresh and clean. The upholstery is clean and has been conditioned.  Carpet is in great shape with no rips or cigarette burns. There is slight evidence of wear on the rear cargo area, specifically the spare tire cover. The dark brown dashpad has some very minor splits up towards the windshield from the California sun, and slight aging of the wood trim but both still show very well. Optional 3rd row seating looks virtually unused. Perfect Door panels x4. Vacuum operated door locks function properly, even after sitting for a few days. Aftermarket Pioneer CD Player. All gauges, clock, switches work as normal.

Body

The original classic white (classicweiss) code 737 enamel paint shines beautifully and has always been properly cleaned and waxed. The body is straight and has zero rust issues. Mercedes surprised Hamilton with this steering wheel message

Tue, Nov 25 2014

Lewis Hamilton had much to celebrate at the end of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix this past weekend. Not only did he win the race in commanding form (the 33rd in his career to make him the fifth most successful in Formula One history), but he also scored enough points (double on the season finale this year) to outpace his teammate and chief rival to win the world championship. Having already been crowned champion in 2008, that makes him one of only sixteen drivers to have won multiple world titles. It's a point his team at Mercedes didn't want him to miss, so on the cool-down lap at the end of the race, his pit crew radioed him the message "default 44" – an instruction that triggered this image to appear on the display in the middle of his steering wheel. Apparently Lewis, with plenty else on his mind (like getting his car back to the parc ferme in one piece and with enough fuel), didn't notice what was flashing in front of him. Superimposed, as you can see, over an image of Hamilton as a young lad still in karts is Lewis' name alongside those of the other two-time world champs: Jim Clark, Graham Hill, Emerson Fittipaldi, Alberto Ascari, Fernando Alonso and Mika Hakkinen. (Never mind those who've scored more than two titles.) Intriguingly, Hakkinen is the only other one among them to have won either of his titles under Mercedes power like Lewis did, though Fangio won two of his five titles motivated by Benz engines.

Consumer Reports declares most and least loved cars [w/video]

Wed, Dec 3 2014

Consumer Reports is crunching the numbers from its annual owner-satisfaction survey, and part of that process is finding out how attached drivers are to their cars. CR simply asks readers of models up to three years old if they would buy the same vehicle again in light of their entire ownership experience, and tallies the results. After looking at the responses for about 350,000 vehicles, it turns out that people really love a certain California-built, electrically powered luxury sedan. That's right, this year's the overall winner was the Tesla Model S with a whopping 98 percent of owners saying they would purchase another one (the Model S also won this award last year, with 99 percent satisfaction). The Chevrolet Corvette Stingray came in a close second with 95 percent of drivers hoping to park another one in their garage. A few models weren't quite so favored, though. The Nissan Versa Sedan was the least loved model among its owners; a mere 42 percent said that they would purchase another. The aging Jeep Compass didn't do much better, with just 43 percent of drivers willing to buy the softroader again. On average, about 70 percent of owners say they would buy their car again, and only four cars ranked below 50 percent in CR's findings. Check out the video above to see some of the winners and losers in a few of CR's categories. If you're a subscriber, you can check out the full list on its website. 2015 Mercedes-AMG C63 S Review

Mon, Jul 6 2015

"It's about great cars on great roads." The late David E. Davis, Jr., said this of Winding Road when he took the reins as editor-in-chief in 2006. Our mission at that magazine was to not just review cars, but to describe the emotional experience of piloting brilliant machines down beautiful roads. "The art of driving," per David E. This all comes flooding back into my mind as I pull out of a Shell station onto Angeles Crest Highway, just south of the 210 freeway in La Canada Flintridge, CA. I'm in the 2015 Mercedes-AMG C63 S. I've got a full tank of fuel, the whole day to myself, and I'm staring down one of the finest driving roads in the country. Prior to this moment, I spent two days bombing around the greater Los Angeles area in this sinister-looking C63 S. This car is a villain, and looks appropriately so in black paint with the $750 AMG Exterior Night Styling pack. The C-Class as a whole is far more upscale in this latest generation, with its long hood, cab-rearward design, and short rear deck. "Baby S-Class" is not an exaggeration. Thankfully, the addition of AMG bits don't detract from the new C's more premium aura. Where a BMW M3 just looks like a brash 3 Series, the C63 is more like a C400 with a trick up its sleeve. The 4.0-liter V8 is an exceptional engine. Start the engine, and there's no question you're blessed with the power of AMG. Any worries I had about the new, twin-turbocharged, 4.0-liter V8 not providing enough aural delight are gone, especially with the $1,250 AMG Performance Exhaust. At start-up there's a low, burbly sound quality, typical of a V8. At full throttle, it's loud, angry, and passionate. I will always miss the naturally aspirated, 6.2-liter M156 V8 from the last C63, not only for its noise, but for its character. That said, I eagerly welcome Mercedes' new turbocharged techniques. The 4.0-liter V8 is an exceptional engine. In C63 S guise, the M178 lump makes 503 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque, the latter of which comes on in full force as low as 1,750 rpm. That's a ton of power for the 3,935-pound C63. But it never feels like there's too much to handle. Power comes on progressively, and when I mash the throttle on a straight stretch of pavement, the car is composed and controlled. And quick. Seriously quick. Zero-to-sixty-in-under-four-seconds quick. The balance between viciousness and grace is perfectly met in this new C63.
