PRIVATE OWNER - NOT A DEALER.
Pride of ownership shows throughout. Looks better than many 35,000 mile SL's I have seen.
Low mileage isn't always better, especially with the German cars. They must be driven to maintain the engine.
I do not suggest not buying a 10 year old car that sits in the garage for months at a time, especially in an SL; the systems will be shot.
There is a lot of information here, please take the time to read through it before asking any questions, however, please DO ask any questions you may have before purchase. This isn't a new car, and has some wear and tear for it's age, however, in many respects, it is maintained better than some peoples.
Gorgeous Brilliant Silver Metallic
with two-tone Charcoal / Black Interior
Look and feel like a million bucks, for very little cash!
NO ERROR CODES / NO OVERDUE SERVICING NEEDED.
I just had this professionally waxed with Meguiars Synthetic wax!
Not a garage-queen with engine problems, I used this as my daily driver
for the last couple years, and I drove through many states with it on
long road trips with no problems! It's a German car, it was meant to be
driven, and they last longer that way! Lots of well taken care of
highway miles!

Why am I selling? Simple! I am deploying soon, and I cannot take my
child (this car) with me! I hate selling it, but it is a must! I just
spent a good bit of money on this car, and I can't see exporting it or
keeping it in storage. This car deserves a good home, and will provide
the next owner a great amount of satisfaction and enjoyment!
Think of it as a new one with a $100,000 incentive!

Voice activating Phone System - $1,995 (TRUE, you don't want to use a 9
year old phone. HOWEVER, what this means you can get a $200 Bluetooth
adapter that plugs into the phone dock, and now you are wired into the
command system, instead of paying $2,000 for a COMMAND UPDATE (steering
wheel mounted phone controls.)
(OPTIONS this doesn't have, and WHY I didn't want them): Distronic -
(Didn't want a "cheesy looking, plastic Front grille emblem, I like the
3-dimensional Mercedes grille logo) / Parktronic - (I didn't want 12
"dimples" around the car, and to "ruin" the flowing lines of the AMG
Bumper.) / Panorama Roof - (I figured if it was sunny out, well, it's a
convertible. If it was bad weather, well, I didn't want to see it
anyways! Plus, it added 73 pounds of weight.) ALSO, this intentionally
does NOT have a front license plate bracket, again, the original owner
and I would rather pay a ticket, then to drill holes through a $2000+/-
AMG front bumper!)
Unique things about the SL found on few, if any other cars on the road today.
1.
When the hard top is folded in the trunk, to access large cargo, you
don't have to put the top up. All you have to do, is press a button, and
the folded hardtop is tilted up so you can access 100% of the available
space. Awesome!
2. When the top folds down, the glass is tilted
separately from the frame, which means, unlike nearly every other
folding hardtop I have seen, even most 2014 styles, any exterior
moisture on the glass, will end up inside your car, not good, unless you
like damp, bacteria growing haven in your car.
3. No longer
will you have to exert yourself to manually (ha) move the seat-back to
access or clean behind the seats, just one touch of a button, and it
tilts the seat forward, and moves the entire seat fully forward. The
same to reverse the process.
4. You can manually raise the entire car to three different ride heights with the push of a button for steep driveways or terrains.
?RECENT MODIFICATIONS: (I tried to keep these tasteful, and keep it
looking like a newer version of what a stock SL looks like.)
2009 E63 DESIGN AMG REPLICA Gunmetal Rims. EXACT FACTORY 18' Staggered
Sport Package fit. Outfitted with OEM Recommended Michelin Pilot Sport.
Put these on December of 2012. Look very similar to the newer SL rims.
Not quite skinny split spoke, these are much easier to clean! The
Gunmetal finish is so much easier than the original AMG Chrome Rims to
keep clean- Everyone loves the rims! OEM E63 Rims cost over $10,000
(Seriously, I am not kidding, ). Again,These are replicas, but very good looking rims!
Replica's cost only $1000.
Matching dark tint all around. $250
PROFESSIONAL premium headlight restoration and protective coating performed at Jacksonville, Florida Brumos Mercedes dealership $150 FEB 2012
One lamel (bar) aftermarket grille, with Genuine OEM star. $200
Brand New Clear front bumper marker lenses (instead of yellow). $50
Chrome Amber turn signal bulbs in both the headlight unit. (No egg-yolk effect, this really helps make the SL look newer) $10
Chrome "WHITE" (Blue bulbs dipped in chrome) are installed in the front
bumper lenses for a more "cool white" look instead of the aging, warm
white color tone, and they match the head lamps better. I didn't put
LED's here, because the chrome dipped light bulbs look better and blend
in better, without seeing LED pieces everywhere in the reflection of the
reflector. $10
Replaced the rear window side trim pieces with new ones, these were a known issue with the laminate fading. ($45 each side)
New OEM Mercedes CLEAR (instead of red) Third Brake Light $220
2012 Style LED Mirror covers, painted to match with functioning LED
courtesy ground lights, wired to the dome light with a relay installed.
Painted to match, wired correctly. Over $600 to paint, install and wire
up correctly.
High Quality Premium Morimoto Xenon headlight bulbs: XB35 Series (With a 2 year warranty.) $70
("The XB35 uses a capsule with electrodes made for 50w ballasts, but is
also cross compatible with 35w units. The fat-boy 8.8mm glass is more precisely set into the Philips-style base for the best distribution of
light and cleanest projector cutoff line. They use a higher-grade halide
salt mixture that's proprietary to the XB35 series, and more of it
compared to the 3Five's for a longer lifespan. The bulbous glass
surrounding the capsule distributes light more effectively through the
optics inside the projectors.")
Hood, bumper, fenders were recently professionally repainted and
re-clearcoated at a Mercedes Benz Collision Shop (BRUMOS MERCEDES (New
Mercedes Dealer) COLLISION, JACKSONVILLE, FL) (December 2012) because of
a peeling clear coat issue. Looks like a brand new car now! About $1300
Sylvania SilverStar ZXE Foglamps (Feb 2013) $50
TOTAL AFTERMARKET EXPENSES (Not including Servicing)
$3,200+ worth of upgrades / cosmetic work.
INTERIOR CONDITION: In may respects, is almost like new! No tears or
stains in carpet. Newer OEM Floor mats look good. No tears in the
leather. No tears or cracks in the dash. A non smoker car, smells great,
and is very clean. For a 10 year old car, there is minimal wear on the
inside, besides some minor wear on buttons. I am an average sized adult,
so the seat leather wasn't stress-tested so to speak. Several buttons
are actual metal, not plastic, and will look new 10 years from now. I
love the Mercedes ergonomics in this car! I have quite often cleaned and conditioned the leather with Lexol cleaners and conditioners. It is styled better than most
new luxury cars, in my opinion! There is some typical light crazing in
the clear coat on the wood steering wheel, however that's exactly why I
went with the wood option. The clear coat my have some slight cracks,
but it doesn't wear, and become brittle like leather only steering wheel
does! There are no drill holes, no aftermarket installs of any sort. No
sticky residue from anything ever Velcro'd anywhere. No broken buttons,
or buttons that do not work.
Service History:
All service intervals are up to date.
Recently performed "Service A&B" at Lorenzen Motors in St Augustine, Florida (April 2014).
Installed new SBC braking unit. Installed several new bushings, and front tires are brand new.
Replaced serpentine belt and a pulley for the belt.
PREMIUM brakes and rotors are only a year and a half old.
Drivers side window switch replaced $183. FEB 2012
PSE replaced about 2 years ago. (Common issue with Mercedes roadsters, it happened in my last one as well.)
Crank Position Sensor replaced about 3 years ago.
Tires on the front are BRAND NEW Continental DW's. The rear OEM Spec Michelin Pilot's are likely at 70%. I have not yet replaced the rear tires, as they are fine.
BRAND NEW OEM charcoal floor mats just ordered!
As you may have guessed already, I am very demanding of certain options,
and I am a Mercedes enthusiast. I have loved this car for a couple
years, and there has been no love loss! Every vehicle has their quirks.
Some, after you get used to them, do not bother you anymore. Others,
well, I have a included a "credit value" to fix.
QUIRKS. Every car has a couple, here are mine.
The left side "in-dash" pop out cup holder does not work, it is stuck in
the closed position. I'm fine with that. (IT IS NOT NOTICEABLE just buy
looking at it. In some cars, the front trim piece is broken off.) There
is an optional and rare to find $100 OEM Mercedes "water bottle holder"
as well that I prefer to use, mounted at the base of the passenger
seat. This holds nearly ANY SIZE of beverage, and if it spills, well,
you don't spill it in the COMMAND electronics area. I never liked the
placement of the pop-out cup holders over the electronics anyways.
The glove box is stuck in the closed position. I bought the car knowing
this, and never had a need to fix it. There are more hidden storage
cubbies in this car than one would ever need. There is one built into
the front of each seat, there is a huge storage cubby under each door
arm-rest that is larger than most glove boxes I have seen, you have a
fairly large center console, AND (yes, even MORE!) Two storage
compartments in the rear parcel shelf area, one behind each seat. If you
need more hidden storage compartments then that, you likely need an SUV
anyways, ha ha. So, I count SEVEN! SEVEN storage compartment, besides
the stuck-closed glove box. Can you see now why I was never interested
in fixing it? Ha ha.
The Keyless-Go Card was lost before I bought the car on the 2003 &
2004 model year SL500's, the proximity key was a separate card, you
could have kept in your wallet. This was the original "proximity key" I
guess. Well, between people not wanting to carry a separate card, or it
being lost, many 2003 and 2004 cars now don't have the keyless go card.
If you REALLY want this, you can easily get a replacement Key Card at
any MBUSA dealer and have it programmed for your car. Again, this was
not something that was important to me. I don't HAVE to press a button
on the shifter to make me happy. HOWEVER, This DOES make the shifter
look "cooler" now I suppose, ha ha, I could buy a new card for $200-300;
but honestly, for that price, a REMOTE START device would be a better
investment, in my opinion. Again, it never bothered me.
One of the "cosmetic flaps" on the hard top "tonneau" area, behind the drivers side, broke it's little spring clip or connecting rod, I have the piece i the car. It was like that when I bought it. IN NO WAY does it affect performance of the convertible top, so I never bothered to fix it. It is hardly noticeable if you ask me.
The front right rim has a very small ding, I had it checked out, and it does not affect the tire pressure or handling. It is again, hardly noticeable unless you are 1 or 2 inches away and doing a truly thorough inspection. the finish is NOT scraped.
I have deducted a couple grand for these "very very minor imperfections"
I would like to sell this car sooner rather than later.
I can't really think of anything else right now, but be sure to ask any questions.
In conclusion: It's pretty, it's safe, it's reliable and fun to drive!
It is a used car though. Whatever else it is or isn't is for you to
decide, but buyer should be prepared for lots of stares and approving
gestures from everyone from kids on bicycles to drivers of much more
expensive new Mercedes! You will never have to wonder which car is yours
in the parking lot either!
Warranty Information
this vehicle is being sold "as is". No representations or warranties are
made by seller, nor are any representations or warranties relied upon
by bidders in making bids. I have been honest with the description, and
have been liberal with the discounts for imperfections. This is a
pre-owned car that is 10 years old. It is not perfect, but, it's darn
close for a driver 10 year old car! It is certainly a head turner, and will be for many more years as this ages into a sweet classic SL!
Payment Terms:
I still owe a little on the car, my Credit union is just a few minutes
down the street from me (NAVY FEDERAL CREDIT UNION) and in the past, I
have been able to get the title very quick after payoff. THEY DO HAVE A
PAPER COPY of my title on hand, as I requested it because I am selling
the car.
