Up for auction is a beautiful 1972 Mercedes Benz 280se 4.5 with 25,760 miles on the odometer. Mercedes Benz produced over 350,000 W108 body cars from 1965-72. There have been only 13,000 280se 4.5 ever produced, making this a rare model with fewer and fewer in circulation. A simple yet classy design and bulletproof durability was the epitome of the W108 body Benzes and solidified them in automobile history as the car that really brought Mercedes to the forefront as a luxury automakers.

This 280se 4.5 was born and raised in the mild climate of Northern California. This 41 year old machine is in good shape for it's age and would be a perfect candidate for a light restoration to turn this beauty into a showcar, or just leave as is with it's natural Patina giving charm to the future owner. This is a running and driving car, The 4.5 liter v8 starts up every time without any problems and runs quite nicely. The Transmission shifts into all gears including reverse without problems. The paint appears to be original and in decent shape for the age. There are a few rust spots mostly surface with a few nonsurface in trunk, all can be fixed easy and cheap. The right rear passenger door has paint cracking. All the Chrome bumpers are in very good shape and has not been abused or pitted. The wheels are updated off of the SEL model. All the power windows and locks work, original wood dash and buttons all in good shape. Overall this is a desirable Mercedes classic that runs and drives that can be made into a $15,000 + show car with not a lot of work.

Mercedes FWD platform to last until 2018, convertible and two-seater future uncertain

Mon, 22 Jul 2013

Mercedes-Benz seems to be expecting a lot of success from its front-wheel-drive CLA-Class. Automotive News is reporting that the sub-C-Class sedan could grow when its second generation arrives in 2018.
The current FWD platform for MB underpins the CLA, the B-Class, the GLA-Class, and the A-Class. The B-Class will arrive in North America as an EV for spring of 2014, while the production GLA crossover will arrive three to four months after that. The five-door A-Class won't be crossing The Pond. Sad faces all around.
According to AN, another model will be based on the front-drive architecture, but it won't be coming to the US market. Set to arrive next year, rumors are that it'll be a wagon version of the CLA, sort of like the ill-named five-door CLS Shooting Brake that is also a Europe-only item.

13-year-old boy swipes dad's Mercedes, drives across Europe

Wed, 16 Jan 2013

After an argument with his adoptive parents that resulted in them taking away his mobile phone, an angry 13-year-old boy ran away from his home in Italy and headed straight to Poland to meet his biological sister. But instead of taking the train or hitching a ride, like most on the run, the young man (an accomplished go-kart racer and car enthusiast) grabbed the keys to his father's Mercedes-Benz and jumped behind the wheel for an impromptu road trip.
With less than 200 euros (about $270) in his wallet and a passport in his pocket, the youngster managed to put more than 500 miles between himself and his distraught parents, crossing two international borders in the process, before German police nabbed him just shy of the Polish border. According to reports, the vehicle was tracked - it wasn't his driving that alerted authorities to his location.
Reunited with his mother and father, who traveled to Germany to retrieve both their son and the vehicle, the young man apologized and acknowledged his error. As a result of his actions, social workers will increase checks on the family and we can be sure his parents are now hiding the keys.

Mercedes has already booked 30k orders for new S-Class

Mon, 21 Oct 2013

When Toyota snags 30,000 Corolla orders over a three-month span, it's entirely possible we're in the midst of a global economic collapse and that the end is nigh. That's because the scale for Toyota is so very large. Mercedes-Benz, on the other hand, operates on a much smaller scale, particularly when we talk about its higher-end models, like the S-Class.
In 2012, Mercedes sold 65,000 of its flagship sedans in Germany and the EU. That's 178 units per day, for 365 days. Based on that, you can imagine the excitement at Stuttgart when it accepted 30,000 orders for the new S-Class in just three months. That's an average of 333 per day on a continent with a notoriously shaky economy. Now, admittedly, this enthusiasm could wane as the refitted S-Class becomes more common and Mercedes achieves market saturation in Europe's many chauffeur and livery services, but Mercedes isn't choosing to look at it that way.
"The new S-Class has already jumped back into the lead in terms of new vehicle registrations in Germany and its neighboring European countries," Mercedes-Benz head of sales and marketing, Ola Kaellenius, said in a statement last week.
