I purchased this 1964 Mercedes-Benz 220 b while in college 10 years ago from a small car dealer in McPherson, Kansas. I did some work to the engine including line boring of the engine, grinding of the crankshaft and replacement of the bearings, decking of the block and head, grinding of the valves and seats, replacement of the valve seals, rebuilding of the carbs, replacement of the starter, rebuilding of the distributor, rebuilding of the steering pump, replacement of the generator with an alternator (from a 230 S), new sub-frame mounts, motor and transmission mounts, new shocks, wheel bearings, brake hoses, brake linings in the front, rebuilt wheel cylinders, drums turned and the exhaust system replaced. I also replaced all five wheels with another set including the tires several years ago and the tires are in pretty good shape but they are at least six or seven years old. The original set of wheels come with the car as well. As you can see from the photos the trunk has all of the extra parts and interior parts that I removed.

When I bought the car it came with the original owners manual, service booklet, dealer directory and transmission user guide. From this information I tracked the ownership back to the original owner and dealer. The car was originally sold to a Ms. Wilson at the Studebaker Packard dealer in Oregon City, Oregon. She later moved to Missouri and the car was brought to McPherson, Kansas in 2000 after her death.

I have the original build sheet, which I will include in the sale of the car along with a translation of all of the codes. The car was originally delivered and is currently DB 335 Mercedes blue with the grey MB text vinyl. It is completely numbers matching (engine, transmission, rear axle, front axle left and right and steering box).

Please keep in mind that the car is not running at this time but could easily be made to run with fresh fuel and a new battery. I turned the engine over today but the battery is weak. If you plan on buying this car please have a truck and trailer available as well as some help to get it loaded. If you are local and would like to inspect the car over the next seven days please contact me.

Maybach and Aston Martin alliance talks fall apart

Tue, 27 Sep 2011

If you have, like us, been salivating at the notion of a new generation of Maybach and Lagonda ultra-luxury crafts built by Aston Martin, we've got some bad news: According to reports emanating from Germany, talks between AML and Daimler have broken down.
The proposal under negotiation would have seen Daimler outsourcing production of the next family of Maybach models to Aston Martin, which in return would benefit from Mercedes-Benz platforms and engines - not only for its svelte GTs, but also for its own future Lagonda line of limousines and luxury SUVs. That, and a boatload of money - or at least that's what AML was reportedly seeking, an issue that served as the stumbling block over which the deal reportedly collapsed.
That's not to say the two parties couldn't still reach some sort of a compromise, but short of that, Daimler may opt to either shut down Maybach altogether, find another partner, or take another stab at building new models internally.

Mercedes-Benz introduces new heavy security M-Class Guard model

Tue, 19 Mar 2013

Mercedes-Benz has unveiled a new addition to the company's line of personal security vehicles. The M-Class Guard features bullet-proof side windows made with special laminated glazing and a polycarbonate inner layer to protect occupants from shards of glass. Mercedes says the M-Class Guard meets protection level VR4 according to the Bullet Resistant Vehicles 2009 standards, based on testing from the independent Ulm-based Ballistics Bureau, which means it can withstand .357 Magnum and .44 fire from multiple angles. It can also stand up to the DM51 hand grenade when equipped with optional floor armoring. Why skimp?
Buyers looking for protection from the world's literal slings and arrows can opt for the ML350 BlueTEC with its 258 horsepower 3.0-liter turbodiesel engine. With 457 pound-feet of torque, the oil-burner should have no trouble hustling the privileged class about. Of course, the ML500 offers a bit more punch courtesy of a 4.6-liter twin-turbo V8 with 408 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of torque. Prices start at 105,050 euros for the diesel and 118,650 euros for the V8. You can check out the full press release below for more information.

Mercedes working on new inline-six engines

Mon, 11 Nov 2013

Mercedes-Benz will make a return to the inline-six-cylinder engine game, according to a report from the UK's AutoCar. It's not clear what's prompting the phasing out of the current array of V6s.
We'll see the first inline-six from Mercedes in next-generation E-Class, set to debut in 2016. Following that, it'll arrive as part of a mid-cycle refresh for the C-Class in 2017. What's particularly special about the new inline-six is its modular nature, which will allow Mercedes to eventually spinoff three- and four-cylinder options, with the three-pot arriving alongside the new inline-six.
In other news, AutoCar uncovered some details on the next C-Class AMG, which will ditch its excellent 6.2-liter, AMG V8 in favor of a 4.0-liter, twin-turbocharged V8, although we've already told you about that. What we didn't know at the time, though, was that the 4.0-liter would be paired first with a new, seven-speed AMG Speedshift transmission and offer all-wheel drive. AC also reports that a nine-speed Speedshift is in the works.
