Seat hatches hot little Ibiza Cupra Concept in Beijing [w/video]
Mon, 23 Apr 2012Just about every brand under the Volkswagen Group umbrella has its own performance line these days. Marques like Lamborghini, Bugatti and Porsche may not need them, but Volkswagen has the R line, Audi has the RS range, Skoda offers the vRS models, and Seat badges its under the Cupra name.
It's a nameplate that's become synonymous with Latin-flavored hot hatches in markets around the world, and one of those vital markets is China. Little wonder, then, that Seat chose the Beijing Motor Show to launch its latest Cupra model.
Technically billed as a "concept," even Seat admits the vehicle you see here is pretty darn close to the production model that is scheduled to debut later this year. It starts out with the latest Ibiza hatchback (which itself shares its underpinnings with the Volkswagen Polo) and upgrades it with VW's celebrated 1.4 TSI engine that packs a turbocharger, supercharger and direct injection to produce a solid 180 horsepower. All that juice is driven to the front wheels through an electronic differential and seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
McLaren confirms limited production for 675LT [w/video]
Wed, Mar 4 2015McLaren confirmed it will build a limited run of the 675LT supercar that was revealed this week at the Geneva Motor Show. McLaren will produce 500 copies priced at 259,500 British pounds, or about $400,000. The 675LT, which brings back McLaren's long tail heritage, will be the lightest, fastest and most powerful in the company's Super Series. The cars in the series will share a common carbon-fiber chassis, but the powertrains will be tuned differently. The LT will have a wider track and stiffer suspension settings. The 675LT weighs 2,712 pounds, and it will be available for order in July. It pumps out 666 horsepower from a 3.8-liter V8 and can sprint to 62 miles per hour in 2.9 seconds. A McLaren Club Sport pack, offering a titanium roll hoop, four-point harnesses and a fire extinguisher is optional equipment. View the full press conference at: www.youtube.com/McLarenAutomotiveTV The McLaren 675LT, which made its global debut today at the 85th International Geneva Motor Show, will be the lightest, most powerful and fastest model in the McLaren Super Series, and also the most exclusive: production will be strictly limited to just 500 examples worldwide. The limited production model has a clear focus on light weight, optimised aerodynamics, increased power, track-focused dynamics and driver engagement. At its core is the lightweight carbon fibre MonoCell chassis, shared with each model in the Super Series, but the chassis set up and powertrain are bespoke, with a third of overall parts and components modified. A more aggressive set up gives the 675LT a unique track-focused feel, while still retaining the adjustable ProActive Chassis Control to ensure drivability and comfort levels are maintained. One of the many updates featured on the 1997 McLaren F1 GTR 'Longtail' was a wider track, front and rear. This approach is echoed in the 675LT, with the front and rear track widened by 20mm, ensuring optimised stability and handling performance.
Hot lapping Detroit's Belle Isle in a McLaren 12C GT3
Fri, May 30 2014Last weekend's Indianapolis 500 was indeed the most prominent race of the 2014 IndyCar series so far, with driver Ryan Hunter-Reay winning in what was an incredibly close fight to the very last lap. But the Indy 500 doesn't mark the end of the IndyCar season, and this weekend, the series heads to Detroit for the Belle Isle Grand Prix – an event that brought open-wheel racing back to The D in 2012 (to admittedly terrible results). But this weekend's Belle Isle events aren't just about IndyCar. In fact, there's a whole host of racing to be found on the small island in the Detroit River this weekend, including the Pirelli World Challenge competition, which many folks love, if only because the racecars are actually based off of production vehicles. As part of this week's pre-race festivities, Autoblog multimedia director Adam Morath got to meet with the folks from K-Pax Racing and check out their McLaren 12C GT3 racer.
