McLaren planning P13 GT with unconventional trunk

It was just a couple of months ago that we last brought you word on P13, the project being undertaken by McLaren to slot in a new entry-level model below the above-pictured 650S. Speaking with McLaren personnel at the launch of the latter, we said that the P13 would come in multiple bodystyles – which is to say, more than just a coupe and convertible. Now Car and Driver says it knows what that third bodystyle will be. According to an unnamed inside source in Woking, C/D reports that, in addition to a two-seat coupe and Spider, the P13 (or whatever it's ultimately called for public consumption) will be offered as a GT model. And just what will the difference be between the coupe and GT, you ask? Not necessarily the addition of extra seats in the back: according to Car and Driver, that will be a luggage compartment aft of the engine and passenger compartment. The resulting form, we understand, will resemble a Jaguar E-Type coupe, which could be what we were actually hearing about a couple of years ago when rumors surfaced of a 12C shooting brake in the works. One way or another, it would be an interesting development, potentially as novel as the Ferrari FF but at the opposite end of the spectrum and with its 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 – albeit slightly detuned – still located amidships and still driving the rear wheels through a seven-speed DCT. We'll just have to wait and see how it turns out, but with Frank Stephenson working on the design, we bet it'll be a stunner, if a slightly unconventional one.

Driving McLaren's Sports Car and 'The Best Corvette' at the M1 Concourse | AutoblogVR

There's nothing better than a track day. Great cars on a great track are always great fun. Recently, we had the opportunity to check out the new M1 Concourse in Pontiac, MI, with two of the coolest cars in the game; a McLaren 570S and a Corvette Grand Sport. Driving the 570S was Autoblog senior editor Greg Migliore, and he didn't hold back. Getting behind the wheel of the McLaren, Greg explains that although this is McLaren's idea of a sports car, "it's all relative." Topping out at 204 miles per hour with 562 horsepower, there's no two ways about it: this thing is a monster. While the 570S was fantastic, we had another sports car we wanted to drive and editor-in-chief Mike Austin was just the man for the job. Enter the Corvette Grand Sport. Mike pushed all 460 horses of the 'Vette to the limit and came away impressed with the car, even calling it "the best Corvette." Comparing it to its more powerful sibling, the Z06, Mike goes so far as to say the Z06 has too much power, while the Grand Sport seems to be the third bear's bowl of porridge in the Corvette family... McLaren's kiddie 720S has butterfly doors and can play movies

There's an inherent problem with car-related kids toys: The adults buying them want to play with them too, especially if it's as cool as a miniature 720S. Luckily, McLaren might have found a way to mitigate this issue with its newest ride-on. While the toy is aimed at toddlers, it is equipped with remote controls, perfect for child and grown-up to share play time. This 720S might be the most advanced and most accurately replicated Power Wheels ride-on ever. It will be offered in several real McLaren colors, including Azores Orange, Belize Blue, Lantana Purple, Onyx Black, Mauvine Blue, Silica White, Saros Grey, and the famous Papaya Spark. The toy also has carbon-like plastics (we're kinda surprised McLaren didn't go over-the-top and opt for real carbon fiber), fake exhaust tips, five-point star wheels, and functioning lights. Plus, McLaren designed the toy to have functioning dihedral doors. Because every 3-,4-,5-, or 6-year-old deserves to flex on the entire neighborhood. Following up McLaren's 2016 release of the kids P1, the mini car has a key, a real accelerator pedal and engine noises, but it gets its motivation from an electric powertrain. Parents can play driving instructor with complete control over the car through a remote. Inside, the car has an infotainment system that can play music or even a movie. A small playlist of songs is pre-programmed into the car, and the videos can be accessed by plugging in a USB or an SD card.
