McLaren MSO R Coupe and Spider are one customer's perfect supercar twins

With enough money, you can usually get a supercar manufacturer to build just about anything. McLaren Special Operations is a division of the British automaker set up just to work with customers on bespoke products. Today, McLaren announced that one customer is about to take home a nearly identical pair of cars completely tailored to his tastes. They're called the MSO R Coupe and MSO R Spider. The pair appear to be based on the McLaren 675LT and 675LT Spider, respectively. Both cars are powered by McLaren M838TL 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V8. In these cars, the engine makes 679 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque. McLaren says both engines have been blueprinted and the heads and exhaust ports hand polished. The exhaust features a crossover muffler to optimize exhaust flow. The ends of the system are titanium. The most notable change to the car's styling is the addition of a number of aerodynamic devices, including a large twin-element rear wing. The cars also have front dive planes and louvered fenders to optimize airflow. The front bumper, hood, louvered fenders, roof scoop, rear deck, and side mirror arms and casings are all made of carbon fiber. A carbon fiber stripe runs down the center of the cars. Both cars are painted in the same shade of silver, though the coupe is done in a matte finish. There are red accents along the bottom and on the rear-wing endplates. Likewise, the interior is a mix of carbon and red trim. Most of the dash is covered in black Alcantara with contrasting red stitching. Most of the trim is exposed carbon fiber. The fixed-back seats are covered in a bright red shade of Alcantara. There are some bespoke touches on the instrument cluster that show the MSO R logo, along with a plaque in the door of each car. There's no word on who purchased the car or where he might live, but the car is left-hand drive. That suggests the car isn't likely to stay close to McLaren's home base in Woking. McLaren F1 GTR Longtail sells at Gooding for $5.28 million

Last month we reported on a very rare McLaren being put up for auction under the auspices of Gooding & Company. One of only 106 examples of the McLaren F1 ever made, one of only 28 made in GTR competition spec, and one of just ten longtail versions, chassis number 021R won FIA GT Championship races in Germany and Finland, making it one of the most successful F1 GTRs ever campaigned and earning its place in the pantheon of McLaren lore. With original livery in immaculate condition, this rare McLaren F1 GTR Longtail sold this weekend in Scottsdale, Arizona, for $5.28 million. Which may seem like a lot of money – and by any account, it surely is – but comes in at the low end of the pre-sale estimates that placed its value at between $5 and $7 million. To put that into proper McLaren perspective, consider that the same amount could buy you a full grid of ten 12C Can-Ams, five examples of the new McLaren P1, or probably get McLaren to build you your own custom creation like the X1. Ice-T arrested for not paying a toll — in his new McLaren

He plays a cop on TV, but that wasn't enough to keep rapper/actor Ice-T from getting arrested Wednesday morning — with the real cops saying he evaded paying a toll on the New Jersey side of the George Washington Bridge. T, who plays an NYPD detective on "Law & Order: SVU," was in the E-ZPass lane, for cars with a toll transmitter. His brand-new McLaren 720S did not have one. And, being new and freshly shipped in from California, the McLaren didn't have license plates yet, either, another matter the Port Authority police took exception to. In some states, you don't get plates right away. It's unclear whether he had a temporary tag, but presumably the cops figured the lack of plates was part of an attempt to elude the toll. Ice-T told center-of-the-celebrity-news-universe TMZ that he forgot he didn't have his E-ZPass, and that he has seven of them. (And therefore, he must have at least that many cars. Wonder if they're all on the order of the McLaren — yeah, based on his Instagram account, that appears to be a yes.) More money, more problems. He says he was arrested but was allowed to leave the scene of what can only loosely be termed as the crime, and went to work on the "SVU" set, equipped with fresh background material on police work. So, high-profile guy, extremely high-profile car. Doesn't catch a break for portraying a cop, and perhaps that even worked against him. And his Twitter followers offer a couple of other entirely plausible explanations. But to arrest anyone for not paying a toll? Cue that weird sound effect in the "SVU" opening: Chunk-chunk.
