2004 Mazda RX8 with 40,204 miles. One owner, non-smoker, garage kept. This car began its life as a High Output 6 speed edition RX8. The original motor lost compression around 30,000 miles and eventually would no longer run. We pulled the motor and opted to swap in a JDM 1jz-gte twin turbo engine and transmission from a Toyota Supra.

The engine is stock internally. The only upgrade is a large front mount intercooler. The engine has never had the boost turned up above stock. There is no boost controller installed on the car. It is completely stock. On stock boost the car dyno'd 300rwhp.

All of the accessories such as A/C, Power Steering, ABS, etc are in perfect working order and have been fully integrated into the new drivetrain. The stock gauge cluster has been integrated to the 1jzgte and all gauges function normally. The interior is completely stock except for the TRD shifter for the Toyota transmission.

The car's exterior is 99.9% blemish free. There are a few tiny chips in the paint from rocks.

The engine uses all Toyota stock parts and accessories so it is very easy to get parts for. The transmission is completely stock Toyota. The driveshaft was custom made by B&M Driveshaft.

On May-06-14 at 18:14:21 PDT, seller added the following information:

*Update* The A/C was not blowing cold today. Upon further inspection we found the A/C compressor will need replaced. A new compressor runs $300 and installation will take less than an hour. It is very easily accessible from underneath. Please take this into consideration when bidding.

I don't want anyone to feel they were misled in purchasing this car so I am adding a few details that I think might make a difference to some potential buyers:

1) The shifter feels vauge. It has a cheap ebay short shifter installed and you get what you pay for. I would personally replace it with a higher quality unit.

2) The windshield washer resevoir was removed to make room for the 1jz swap and was never reinstalled. You would need to source a small one such as a Suzuki unit if you wanted to have functioning windshield washers again.

3) The cruise control doesn't function because the original engine was drive by wire and the new engine is conventional cable type.

4) The engine, transmission, and rear differential are semi-solid mounted so there is quite a bit of driveline noise induced into the cabin. It is typical of high performance street/track cars but some people might be put off by it.

5) The stage 1 electric fan is wired to turn on when the ECU relay is energized so it runs from the time the key is on until 10 seconds after the key is off. The stage 2 fan is ECU controlled.

6) Due to the location of the return fuel line the was added to the fuel sending unit, the fuel gauge will show 1/4 tank of fuel when in fact it is nearly empty. If it gets to 1/8th tank you will likely run out of gas.

Again, the car is very reliable and I personally would drive it daily. I just want people to understand this is a customized car and while all of the major bugs have been worked out it still has its quirks.

Mazda reports highest profits in its 94-year history

Fri, 25 Apr 2014

We may only be a third of the way through 2014, but for Japanese companies, March 31 marked the end of fiscal 2014, and it was a banner financial year for Mazda's global operations. The Japanese independent saw its highest global operating profits in its nearly 100-year history. Its global operating profits were up a huge 238 percent. Yes, a 238 percent increase over 2012 to 1.36 billion euros ($1.88 billion), eclipsing the brand's previous best year, 2008, by 12 percent. Net earnings, revenue and global sales volume also saw increases over the last fiscal year.
What's most impressive, though, is where Mazda saw improvement. The notoriously rough European market was rather kind to the Zoom-Zoom brand, where sales increased 25 percent to 163,000 units. That figure was bolstered by a 35-percent sales increase in Great Britain and a 20-percent jump in Germany, Europe's two largest markets. Japanese sales, meanwhile, were up a respectable 13 percent, to 244,000 units. In China, Mazda saw a 12 percent bump.
Notice we aren't talking about North American sales? That's because Mazda only saw a moderate, five-percent gain in the New World, with sales climbing to 391,000 units in the US, Canada and Mexico. This is particularly disappointing considering Mazda has launched three critically acclaimed products (CX-5, Mazda6 and most recently, Mazda3) for the North American market over the past two fiscal years. Still, it isn't a particular reason to be concerned, as IHS industry analyst Stephanie Brinley notes. "Five percent isn't terrible," Brinley told Autoblog, saying that Mazda should see a bump in 2014 as the Mazda3 picks up steam.

Mazda to reveal MX-5 Miata Club Edition in New York

Thu, Mar 26 2015

Mazda is bringing a new version of its latest MX-5 Miata to the New York Auto Show. And while it's giving us very little to go on at the moment, from what we can tell so far, it looks promising. For starters, it's called the Club Edition, which speaks to us of enhanced performance – particularly on the track. For another, the statement below highlights the "maximum driving enjoyment" the existing MX-5 was "designed to deliver," and then proceeds to claim that the Club will "amplify that experience, harking back to the early lightweight sports cars that inspired it, but serving as a beacon for the future as a thoroughly modern, sophisticated package." Hopefully, then, it'll serve as some sort of road-going mid-point between the stock version and the Global Cup racing concept pictured above. We'd expect the 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine to carry over likely unchanged with its 155 horsepower and 148 pound-feet of torque, but with the potential addition of a stiffened suspension, upgraded rolling stock, revised aero, enhanced cockpit and maybe some excess weight trimmed out – although the new Miata doesn't have much to lose as it is. In any case, we're excited. Related Video: 2016 MAZDA MX-5 MIATA CLUB EDITION TO DEBUT AT NEW YORK INTERNATIONAL AUTO SHOW - 2016 MX-5 Club represents most aggressive road-going version - IRVINE, Calif., March 25, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Ready to join the Club? The 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata Club edition, that is. Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) will be introducing the North American-spec MX-5 Club next week at the New York International Auto Show. The MX-5 Club represents the most aggressive road-going iteration of Mazda's fourth-generation flagship roadster. The 2016 MX-5 sheds approximately 150 lbs. from its predecessor through use of lightweight, efficient SKYACTIV®1 TECHNOLOGY, now weighing 2,332 lbs. when equipped with the standard SKYACTIV-MT six-speed manual transmission (2,381 lbs. with the six-speed automatic). Powering all North American models will be a 2.0-liter SKYACTIV engine, rated at 155 horsepower and 148 lb-ft of torque. Shorter than the first-generation MX-5 that initially graced U.S. shores in 1989, yet wider than the outgoing model and with its engine lower and farther back in its chassis, the 2016 MX-5 is designed to deliver maximum driving enjoyment.

Fiat 124 spied with top down

Sun, Sep 27 2015

With fall officially here, the days are rapidly running out for much of the country to put the top down and enjoy a convertible. Fiat apparently wants to take advantage of the good weather while it lasts, given these fresh spy shots of the 124 Spider testing with the roof down. In terms of styling, these photos show the droptop with an extremely similar look to the ones from July. The roadster still appears to have rounded headlights and a wide grille up front, which the kidney-shaped cladding does nothing to hide. The hood bulge continues to be there, too, and so is the spiderweb-pattern camouflage. However, these new shots let us check out the roll hoops that are visible with the top out of the way, and we even get to see the manual roof in operation. Also, note there are now dual exhausts at the rear, rather than the quad tips from before. Underneath all this camo and cladding, we know that the 124 Spider shares underpinnings with the new Mazda MX-5 Miata. The engine remains a mystery, but competing rumors suggest the 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder from the current 500 Abarth or the 1.7-liter turbo four from the Alfa Romeo 4C. Thankfully, an answer might not be too far away because the roadster is mooted to debut this year, possibly at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November. With the latest Miata receiving high praise from critics, the motoring world soon gets to find out whether Fiat can find any room for improvement. Related Video:
