Super Rare, '79 Limited Edition, 10k On Rebuilt 13b Rotary Engine. on 2040-cars
Notus, Idaho, United States
This is a 1979 Limited Edition RX7 in which there were only 3000 produced world wide. Here is a chance to own a very unique piece of rotary history. This car has all the bells and whistles not found on another rx7 of that year- a/c, cruise, glass and hardtop sunroof, special upholstery, power antenna and hatch release, aluminum alloy rims with matching spare, special Beat Black paint with red and silver pinstriping, not found on any other model of rx7.
This has been my restoration project for 10 years now. All the new items put on in the last few months include: paint job and pinstripes, upholstery and shifter boot, floor mats, windshield and Toyo tires with 70,000 mile rating. Engine specs: Rebuilt 13b rotary engine (intake porting performed for better flow) with no more than 10,000 miles on it, Holley 650 cfm double pumper carb, jetted and adjusted by Racing Beat. Full custom exhaust from Racing Beat including headers. Clutch, master cylinder and related bearings replaced at same time. High performance spark plug wires and NGK plugs. "Roxy" was my first car I purchased with my own money after high school, and has been such a fun car. I am the third owner and have continued to care for this gem in the same great way the previous owners have. Most services have been kept track of in a little note book by all previous owners. Original sales receipt, warranty info and poster advertisement is still with the car. I know it would be more valuable to have original engine in it, but the first owner burnt up the engine and replaced it with a different one. So I came across a 13b and thought why not? This car wants to be revved. I've driven it very conservatively, but can't help to put a Mitsubishi eclipse, Acura TL and a Mustang GT in their place. I tried one high speed test after the engine was broke in, and I buried the 135 mph speedometer, so it hit at least 140. Cruising with the sunroof up, and your shades on while the sun sets, is an amazing experience. Please contact me by e-mail for any questions what so ever. Locals are welcome to test drive the car. I will only accept cash, cashier check, PayPal payment. Local pick up only or buyer pays for shipping and I release the car after full payment has cleared. |

Mazda returning to top-tier racing with diesel-powered prototype in USCC
Thu, 14 Nov 2013Mazda has unveiled its latest challenger in the top flight of endurance racing, a diesel-powered prototype that will campaign the inaugural, 2014 Tudor United SportsCar Championship. The new Skyactiv-D-powered car will make its race debut at January's Rolex 24 at Daytona.
"This is the most significant step Mazda has taken towards returning to the global racing stage since our overall victory at Le Mans in 1991," said the director of Mazda Motorsports, John Doonan. That historic racecar, the rotary-powered 787B, has grown to become one of Mazda's many, well-known racers.
More recently, the Japanese brand has been making waves in the Grand-Am series, campaigning RX-8s and, most recently, running diesel-powered Mazda6 sedans in the GX-class. Mazda will campaign two factory-backed prototypes at Daytona. Driver lineups will be announced closer to race day.
LA Design Challenge invokes biology for 2025 concepts [w/poll]
Wed, 13 Nov 2013Participants in the annual LA Design Challenge always manage to come up with edgy, wacky designs for future vehicles, but with a theme of "Biomimicry and Mobility: 2025" this year's crop of cars might be the quirkiest we've ever seen. As usual, automotive designers from around the world participated in this year's competition, and all the designs will all be unveiled next week during the LA Auto Show with a winner being announced on November 21.
Chinese automakers made a strong showing with Qoros, SAIC Motor, JAC Motors (the company responsible for the Ford F-150 clone) and Changfeng all bringing interesting takes on the biology, human intelligence and sustainability theme. One of the more innovative ideas among these automakers is the Qoros Silk Road System allows autonomous vehicles to drive in packs similar to how ants travel. Speaking of ants, the SAIC Motor Mobiliant (shown above) gets its design from the shape of an ant's body, and, like the insect, it can climb building acting as a personal elevator as well. The JAC Motors design also merges vehicle and building design, while the Changfeng LaBrea inspired by the design of muscle fibers.
Other entrants include Subaru and US-based design teams for BMW, Toyota and Mazda. BMW's duo of concepts mimic plant and animal life. The LA Subways concept acts as a submersible, single-person vehicle to take advantage of the LA river, with a shape similar to an Ocean Sunfish. The Sustainable Efficient Exploratory Device (SEED) imitates the shape of a seed pod, and uses propulsion methods inspired by a shark, dragonfly and a water bug. Mazda's Auto Adapt might be the most car-like concept of the bunch, while the Subaru Suba-Roo and the Calty-designed, Toyota e-grus are the most mind-blowingly awesome.
Mazda begins building Mazda3 in Mexico for US
Tue, 07 Jan 2014With fluctuations in international currencies and rising shipping costs to take into account, foreign automakers can't get away with building cars overseas and selling them in North America as easily as they used to. Particularly with inexpensive mainstream models. And given the benefits of cheaper labor and free trade under NAFTA, many have opted to assemble their cars for the North American market in Mexico. That's why the likes of Toyota, Mercedes and BMW have all opened plants in Mexico. And now Mazda has followed suit.
Ground was initially broken for Mazda de Mexico Vehicle Operations at Salamanca in the state of Gunajuato back in 2011, but production has just now gotten under way. The first vehicle to roll off the line? A Mazda3 sedan destined for the United States. Soon, the plant will begin production of the next Mazda2 as well, selling it alongside its larger counterpart across the Americas and in Europe as production expands to 230,000 units annually. For more information, see the official press release below.
