1984 Mazda RX-7 GS When you think of 80s Performance Imports what comes to mind ? This car is at the top of the list and in case you havent noticed they are getting much harder to find, esp this nice and this original ! Up for auction a nice clean unmolested First GEN RX7 the car that changed the look for Mazda for people to take notice and say "yeah, I could drive that !!" this is a 1 owner car, was originally bought new outta Santa Cruz CA and owned by an older woman since day 1. Been well kept and maintained its whole life and what Id call a nice unmolested survivor. Soon after it left CA it came to AZ where its was garage kept most of its life. Very little sun damage and zero rust on the body or floors, RX7s like this are getting harder to find these days. The original paint still actually in nice shape over most of the car and chances are it could be buffed out and brought back to look nice with an afternoon detail job. Check out our feedback - feel comfortable buying from someone like us with GREAT large pics in our ads and GREAT FEEDBACK. Ive been driving the car around now for the last week almost daily and it has plenty of power, starts and runs great every time and is a blast to drive. Had receipts from original owner showing all the oil changes and repairs it needed since 84. Nice history tracked over its whole life. Car even comes with the original window sticker and misc pamphlets given to the owner when new. DRIVETRAIN: Original 12A Rotory runs great with plenty of power in every gear. ALL stock - un molested just the way Mazda built it. Whenever something broke or wore out it was repaired and kept on the road. Under the hood looks almost like when it was new. Mild oil leaks under the car but they are small. Shocks do feel a little worn out and soft but the brakes and rest of the car feel better then a car this old. Not sure where its suppose to idle out, but to me it idles a little lower then normal, but mostly when its cold. Plugs, cap and rotor are new. Fires up fine whether its hot or cold. Power of the little rotary motor is just like it should be and transmission feels great. Cruise control not working due to a broken vacuum nipple off the canister under the hood. Runs great, the gas in the tank may be 6m old from not being driven much lately, so I think once whats in there is run out and fresh 91 is put in it, it will only run even better. INTERIOR: Doesnt look like a car that is almost 30 yrs old thanks to being in the garage most of its life. Check out the Pics, which show how nice the car still is. Its always been taken care of and kept clean and shows little wear. The worst spot, the dr side door panel by the window which would be a really easy fix if you wanted to. Sunroof I think may even be a pop out, not sure. Everything works best I can tell inside the car. Even the original factory stereo etc works well and the dash was never cut up or trashed. Glass is all great around, may be one chip in the windshield. AC all connected and worked last summer, but now it is blowing warm not cold. SUSPENSION: All stock original down to the OE alloy rims Feels good, but Im sure it will need some bushings if you looked hard. But no weird noises , but Im sure the shocks are old, the ride is a little mushy. Tires decent, and should get you by for another yr. The great thing about taking apart a rust free car like this when it comes time to work on it, you have less hassles with broken bolts etc making the future repairs and maintenance that much easier. Brake feel great too. BODY: Really nice shape for its age. A few small dents and dings. The 2 worst spots : LF Fender and RR wheel well (see pics) Trunk struts work well, this is a great Driver as is or would be an easy car to restore back to original. Honestly, if you buffed the paint out and just drove it you could keep the car still 100% original and in most cases thats way better then just tossing new paint on a car to be pretty. They are only original once !! DO NOT BID UNLESS YOU ARE A REAL BUYER IF YOU HAVE LOW FEEDBACK AND ARE BIDDING PLEASE EMAIL US TO LET US KNOW YOU ARE LEGIT. Mazda Miata celebrates 25 years of rocking our worlds
Mon, 10 Feb 2014For its birthday it hasn't been profiled on 60 Minutes or been to Jay Leno's Garage, doesn't go on a retrospective tour of vintage racetracks or get a special Spyder Zagato edition. That doesn't mean we think any less of the Mazda MX-5 Miata, the roadster with a simplicity that was as enjoyable as it was barely believable when it arrived in 1989. A quarter of a century and three generations later, the Miata remains the go-to roadster when you want easy, balanced and economical thrills.
It grew from a 116-horsepower speedster with a five-speed manual transmission and a curb weight of 2,116 pounds, to a 167-hp go-kart with a five-speed manual coming in at 2,480 pounds (in Sport guise). Along the way it's picked up hundreds of awards, including 14 nods on Car and Driver's "10Best" list, its most recent eight-year streak coming to an end last year, the Guinness Book of World Records title as "Best-Selling Two-Seater Sports Car" and innumerable trophies as weekend racer extraordinaire.
We'll see the fourth generation at next year's Chicago Auto Show, and we're certain to hear more about its 25-year milestone this year. Until that happens, enjoy the images above and the gallery and press release below.
2018 Mazda CX-5 Buying Guide | Specs, safety, expert reviews, and more
Thu, Nov 8 2018Crossovers are all the rage these days, and spunky Mazda devotes half of its six-vehicle portfolio to the segment. The compact CX-5 slots right in the middle of its crossover lineup, size-wise, and outsells all other Mazda vehicles by a country mile, with sales continuing to climb so far in 2018. The CX-5 was the first car to feature Mazda's KODO design language, which has given its vehicles a more premium appearance and made the CX-5 longer-looking and more taut. Now in its second generation, Mazda offers the CX-5 in Sport, Touring and Grand Touring trims, with the option of front- or all-wheel drive configurations. This Autoblog buyer's guide is aimed at helping you to make an educated decision about whether to buy the 2018 Mazda CX-5. We'll summarize safety and reliability ratings, engine specs and horsepower, fuel economy ratings and pricing. We'll also touch on what Autoblog's professional reviewer thinks of the crossover. Is the 2018 Mazda CX-5 safe? Based on its crash tests, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gives the 2018 CX-5 a four-star overall rating. It awards five stars for frontal- and side-crash protection, and four of five stars for rollover crashes. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety further vouches for the 2018 Mazda CX-5, giving the crossover its coveted Top Safety Pick + award — at the time of this writing, the only compact crossover to get this rating, thanks to available adaptive headlights. It also has good ratings for all of its crash-test metrics and headlights, a superior rating for front-crash avoidance, with optional equipment, and an acceptable rating for the ease of use of the child-seat LATCH anchors. We encourage you to visit the NHTSA and IIHS websites to review ratings on the specific vehicle you're researching. Is the 2018 Mazda CX-5 reliable? J.D. Power gives the 2018 Mazda CX-5 an overall score of 75 out of 100, considered average. On its 10-point scale, it rates the vehicle an 8 on overall quality, which is in the average range, and 9 — considered among the best — for overall performance. It rates an 8 for overall depreciation. As is customary, we note that Autoblog has raised concerns about the way J.D. Power weights serious and less-serious reliability issues. You can read more about that here. According to NHTSA, there has been one recall involving 682 models of the 2018 CX-5 because the side curtain airbags may not properly deploy following a side-impact or rollover crash.
Mazda is developing gas and diesel inline-six engines
Thu, May 9 2019Once the favored engine configuration for luxury and high-performance cars, the inline-six suffered a bit when the transverse (east-west) engine configuration became popular during the shift to front-wheel drive cars. The packaging benefits are obvious – no driveshaft or transmission intruding on passenger space or rear differential on cargo volume, plus turning the engine 90 degrees meant the front of the car could be shorter. But the inline-six is slowly, slowly crawling out of near-obsolescence, notably in BMW, Jaguar-Land Rover and Mercedes-Benz products. Add Mazda to that mix: An investor report first spotted by Jalopnik and confirmed by Mazda reveals that the company is developing a Skyactiv-X and Skyactiv-D inline-six that will be installed longitudinally (north-south) in a new "Large Architecture" platform. Before reading any further, let's catch up on the Skyactiv-X and -D technologies. The former basically burns gasoline like diesel, providing some benefits and advantages of both types of combustion - here's an explainer on how that all works. We drove a prototype 2.0-liter Skyactiv-X 4-cylinder engine in a Mazda3 mule, too. And the Skyactiv-D series of engines is a comparatively typical turbodiesel. Mazda has a 2.2-liter turbodiesel inline-4 that has had a long and convoluted development and certification process, but is finally showing up in the 2019 CX-5. Since Mazda has implemented these technologies in existing four-cylinder engines, we would assume that the new Skyactiv engines will be "modular" – that is to say, they'll essentially be the existing engines with two extra cylinders, rather than an entirely new design. Jaguar-Land Rover is doing a similar thing with its Ingenium engine family. Assuming the Mazda engines will be modular would mean they'll be roughly 3.0-liter units, which is a common displacement for modern inline-sixes. And as we mentioned eariler, they'll be arranged longitudinally, unlike any other Mazda save the MX-5 Miata (and the long-departed rotaries), in a new vehicle architecture. As part of a medium-term plan over the next six years, Mazda will develop some unspecified vehicles on what it calls the "Large Architecture". These vehicles will have 48V mild hybrid and PHEV capabilities, and be able to use a version of Mazda's i-Activ AWD system. Why do this at all?
