Granny's Speedshop supplied the kit and I and my brother in law (a professional SoCal auto mechanic) built it at his shop, Brothers Automotive, in Huntington Beach, CA.  The engine was purchased as a long block rebuild.  Modifications were limited to a California smog legal Edelbrock cam and intake manifold.  The 700R4 transmission was professionally inspected before installation.  The car is registered and insured in Arizona but has been sitting.  It  has been driven about 500 miles since engine installation.  The tach and speedo are not hooked up.  The battery is in a stock well in the trunk at the very back of the car.  Work was stopped on this project by a windfall chance to build a Factory Five Cobra and once you've done that, this engine swap pales in comparison.  Effort was made to have the swap be Ca smog legal to no avail.  In other words, the Chevy computer is from a 1990 Firebird and the engine was not  hot rodded to my dream.  That's your opportunity.  Seats and top were redone about 6 years ago.  This 23 year old car has defects, as you can see.  The fiberglas hood bump was added to the aluminum hood to accomodate the stock air cleaner that was required for smog.  The car now has an after market cleaner and thus clears the standard hood that I do NOT have.  As you can see, the top cover and its case are with the car in good shape.  You will also get the books.

White House clears way for NHTSA to mandate vehicle black boxes

Fri, 07 Dec 2012

At present, over 90 percent of all new vehicles sold in the United States today are equipped with event data recorders, more commonly known as black boxes. If the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gets its way, that already high figure will swell to a full 100 percent in short order.
Such automotive black boxes have been in existence since the 1990s, and all current Ford, General Motors, Mazda and Toyota vehicles are so equipped. NHTSA has been attempting to make these data recorders mandatory for automakers, and according to The Detroit News, the White House Office of Management Budget has just finished reviewing the proposal, clearing the way. Now NHTSA is expected to draft new legislation to make the boxes a requirement.
One problem with current black boxes is that there's no set of standards for automakers to follow when creating what bits of data are recorded, and for how long or in what format it is stored. In other words, one automaker's box is probably not compatible with its competitors.

Mazda3 to showcase CNG, Hybrid versions in Tokyo

Tue, 22 Oct 2013

Mazda has made huge gains in its competitive set with the introduction of its Skyactiv technologies, and the Japanese automaker appears to have no plans on slowing down. While we're still waiting for the Mazda6 Skyactiv-D diesel to go on sale in the US, Mazda announced that it will debut new Skyactiv-Hybrid and Skyactiv-CNG versions of the Mazda3 (standard US-spec model shown above) at next month's Tokyo Motor Show.
Matching up with what we heard earlier in the summer, the Mazda3 Skyactiv-Hybrid is intended for Japan only, but there are no details about this system regarding fuel economy, electric components or specs. Likewise, there are no details for the Mazda3 Skyactiv-CNG Concept, which is a bi-fuel version of the car running on both gasoline and compressed natural gas. As this car's name suggests, the CNG model is a concept vehicle, and there is no indication that Mazda plans offering such a model here in the US.
In addition to these two vehicles, Mazda will also have an Atenza (Mazda6) on display showing off some vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) safety systems, called the ASV-5 (Advanced Safety Vehicle). Scroll down for Mazda's official press release.

Mazda6 Coupe coming along with more Mazdaspeed models?

Thu, 30 Oct 2014

The predecessor to the Mazda6, the Mazda 626, was sold in a multitude of body styles across the globe. It could, of course, be had as a sedan, but a two-door coupe, known stateside as the MX-6, was also available on the same platform. Now, a new report from Motor Trend claims that a two-door version of the modern Mazda6 could be on the way.
This would be remarkable for a number of reasons, as automakers have been abandoning this type of non-luxury coupe for decades. A class that counted entries from Toyota, Nissan, Chevrolet, Dodge and Chrysler is now occupied solely by Honda with its Accord Coupe.
Ignoring that, though, MT claims we'll see a two-door Mazda6 in the second half of 2016. When that new variant arrives, it will be with an even more dramatic version of the sedan's Kodo design language. Mazda could rely even more heavily on styling inspiration of the Shinari Concept, which already informs the design of the current 6 sedan, when the two-door model arrives.
