1985 Mazda RX-7 GSL-SE ChumpCar or LeMons Racer

PROVENANCE:

"This is my 1985 Mazda RX-7 GSL-SE ChumpCar racer. It finished 8th of 32 cars at the 24 hour ChumpCar race in 2010 at the Iowa Speedway in Newton and 14th of 65 cars at the 25.5 hour Championship race at the Iowa Speedway in 2011."

The RX-7 has 190,000 miles on it. It is a 13b fuel injected twin rotary engine with 5 speed manual transmission.

SAFTEY:

Autopower 12 point bolt in cage with a front welded re-enforced bar across the front dash. (worth about $1100 by itself)

             Autopower Window Net

             RCI 5 point racing harness

RCR Racing Seat (adjustable back and forth to accommodate different driver heights)

             Fire Extinguisher

             Rally Leather Wrapped Steering Wheel

Killswitch & Push button Start inside

             Killswitch Outside

             Tow Hooks

MISC:

All Gauges work with exception of the fuel gauge (I have new sending unit)

All Lights and Defrost works (great for rain races)

Cross drilled and vented rotors with Ceramic Pads

Unique 15" Steel Wheels (2 sets)

             Two 5 gallon fuel jugs

             Lots of extra parts

THE GOOD:

This is a very solid car. I bought it from a guy in Madison, WI who had it stored from 1999 till I bought it in 2009. It has a title and is even has License plates registered to it in the State of Iowa. This is a remarkable well handling car. At the Iowa Speedway we could take any line into any corner and it stuck like glue. On the oval portion of the 25.5 hour race, it turned 29 second lap times and you only had to breathe the throttle going into turn 2. This car ran thru downpours without a single issue. You could steer the car easily with the gas due to the limited slip differential. Remarkable and solid braking performance. Not a ton of torque from the rotary but great high rpm power. This car is easy and a blast to drive!

THE BAD:

Has new 60k mile motor (questionable). The rear seal blew on the old motor getting it ready for a race last year. Everything is installed. Still working on getting the fuel pump and ignition to work. Needs exhaust pipe run from manifold to rear.

THE UGLY:

Has some dents from the last race thanks to overzealous drivers in an Acura Integra, Porsche 944, BMW 325i and a Subaru Imprezza (thanks guys!). It's only cosmetic and most dents will pop out. But it's a ChumpCar or LeMons racer and should look pretty to begin with.

BONUS:

Will thru in my Black RCI medium one piece Race Suit, RCI Race Gloves and size 9.5 Race Boots.

Also have extra set (8 total) of P205/50R-15 tires and 15' Unique wheels too!

If seriously interested, I would highly recommend calling me to discuss any concerns or questions. I will also be more than glad to send any pictures of anything you want to see. I love this car and have lots of great memories with her, but I have too many other toys and not enough time. . .

Thanks for looking!

First 2014 Mazda3 ad appears

Sat, 29 Jun 2013

If we judge by your comments on our recent announcement post about the new Mazad3, you Autoblog readers approve, pretty wholeheartedly, about the redesign efforts happening over at Mazda. Pressed for an opinion, we'd be forced to admit that we find the new 3 quite fetching our own selves.
To add fuel to the fast-burning fire then, Mazda has gone ahead and dropped a 15-second pseudo commercial on YouTube, showing a very rendered Mazda3 in a very rendered driving environment. The short spot is really just slightly more dynamic than the images of the car, but there is a spot of mystery to it, as well.
Right at the start of the video, an interior shot of the car shows a transparent display screen of some kind, rising from the top of the 3's dash. An interesting choice, considering Mazda has bestowed an actual center-mounted display in on the hatchback's dash-top - albeit one that doesn't look like a clear piece of glass. Take a look below, and while you're there, check out a just-released official video of the Mazda3's reveal in New York.

Junkyard Gem: 1989 Mazda MX-6 GT Turbo

Fri, Nov 18 2016

The Mazda MX-6 is best-known in the United States as the sibling (or maybe first cousin) of the Ford Probe, which almost became the successor to the Fox Mustang. The MX-6 and Probe were well-engineered and very quick for the era, but never enjoyed great American-market sales success. Here's a rare first-generation MX-6 GT that I photographed last week in a Denver self-service yard. 145 turbocharged horsepower was pretty good for 1989, when a new Honda Prelude Si had 135 horses and the far more expensive BMW 325i ($24,650 for the 325i coupe versus $14,499 for the MX-6 GT Turbo) had 168. This one doesn't have the optional four-wheel steering, but it does have the three-way adjustable suspension. If you drove a turbocharged car in 1989, you needed a nine-band equalizer with analog sliders on the radio. It was the law. It's not rusty, but at 205,575 miles it's worn out. The Japanese-market version was known as the Capella C2, and it boasted some great TV commercials. This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. As always, the US-market TV ads are less interesting than their Japanese counterparts. 2021 Mazda3 to gain a turbocharged engine, finally, probably

Wed, Jun 3 2020

Buckle up, Mazda fans. The Mazda3 turbo might really be happening, says a report from Jalopnik. Some details from Mazda’s dealership extranet system observed by Jalopnik suggest weÂ’ll see a 2021 Mazda3 turbo in both sedan and hatchback form. We donÂ’t have eyes on the documents ourselves, but the report says both the sedan and hatchback versions will be all-wheel-drive only with no option for front-wheel drive. In addition to that, it looks like the turbo models will be exclusively automatic, as theyÂ’re both only listed as “6A” in MazdaÂ’s system. Sorry to break the hearts of those who were hoping for a manual turbo. The hatchback manual with the naturally aspirated 2.5-liter from the modelÂ’s first two years appears to be sticking around for a third, in case you were worried. There is one minor mystery that's a possible glimmer of hope for someone wanting more performance, though. The report says that a “MAZDA3 HB PP TURBO” is listed in the docs. Our hearts are yearning for the PP to stand for Performance Package, but it probably stands for “Premium Package.” ThatÂ’s the name of MazdaÂ’s highest trim Mazda3 right now, and itÂ’d make sense to offer the turbo engine on the upmarket model. The last we heard on this front was from a report published over a year ago. It suggested MazdaÂ’s 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder as a possible drop-in. That motor makes 250 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque on premium fuel and would be a big upgrade to the 186 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque made by the naturally aspirated 2.5-liter under the hood now. Without a manual, the obvious transmission would be MazdaÂ’s traditional six-speed automatic. ItÂ’s a solid transmission for cars like the Mazda6 and CX-5, but itÂ’s not meant for sports cars, as we recently found in the automatic Miata RF. So no, this Mazda3 turbo wonÂ’t be a Mazdaspeed. It would simply be a quicker Mazda3, and while we can still pine for a true Mazdaspeed, this will be a welcome addition to the lineup. ThereÂ’s even more ancillary news in the report, too. The docs that Jalopnik saw say weÂ’ll be getting a Mazda3 with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder in 2021. That one has to be the Skyactiv-X engine weÂ’ve been patiently waiting for. It has already launched in Europe, but was delayed in the U.S. Those 100th Anniversary Edition Mazdas get a callout, too. The Mazda3 version of that is reportedly set to be equipped with the turbo engine, making that particular model even more enticing.
