The facts-
Yellow 2002 Mazda Pretege5 for sale roughly 118K miles. 5-speed. Power Everything. All-Weather Kuhmo ecsta tires. seeking $3349, WELL below the Kelley Blue Book, will entertain other offers. NO TRADES. Clear Title, clean carfax (it was in 2007 when I bought it and I haven't been in any accidents).

The Good:

No major mechanical issues, have never had to do any work on the motor/drivetrain.

AC blows very cool, heat blows very hot.

Radio works, speakers were replaced with expensive component Blaupunkt 6.5s in the front, Orions in the back.
Vehicle previously had an aftermarket deck and amps installed, I will include the deck mounting kit and wiring harness from that installation in case you want to replace the deck.

Front brake pads and rotors replaced in February.

Alternator belt and serpentine belt replaced this past spring as well.

Cruise, power locks, power windows, power moonroof and keyless entry all work perfectly.

No rips, tears or stains in the interior upholstery.

Clutch is still springy, transmission is very responsive.

Oil changed last week.

Tires are a year old with plenty of tread life left.

I have at least 90% of the service records for the cars life.

I have the roof racks (not pictured) for the car and will obviously include them. I took them off because I did not find them very useful.

The Issues:
Car had some rust develop in the wheel wells, as Japanese cars of this age tend to do.. I blew the rust off, primed and painted the area, but i did not grind the area down or do any professional body work so you can see the texture/paint color mismatch there (see images).

Last summer someone cut my exhaust pipe to steal the catalytic converter. So the good news is that the Catalytic converter is about a year old, unfortunately they cut the exhaust manifold to get to it and my mechanic had to make the connection without the stock fittings. it works fine, but you hear a slight rattle at higher RPMs sometimes. does not affect anything, just a slight noise. Cannot even hear it with the radio on.

Car is 11 years old and a very bright color so it has its fair share of dings and marks throughout the body. The most major one is on the front right bumper where someone swiped me in a parking lot. I painted it (see photo) so there is a slight paint mismatch.

Just noticed as I was cleaning it that the cap came of the front left foglight leaving it exposed... Im sure a replacement could be ordered from Mazda. Light still works (I usually leave them off unless it is foggy).

Thats it for issues, really runs like a dream for a car of this age and price.

That is about it, email me with additional questions. I have owned this car for over 6 years (I am the 3rd owner) and I have loved it the entire time. It is extremely fun to drive, gets great gas mileage (about 30 MPG) and is extremely practical. I am only selling because I have moved to NYC and will be relying on public transportation.

Thanks!!!

Modded budget Mazda Miata takes on new Porsche Boxster in more challenges

Tue, 23 Sep 2014

Earlier this month, our friends across the pond at Auto Express released the first in a two-video series that would see them try and build up a second-generation Mazda MX-5 Miata that could best a standard Porsche Boxster around the track. While that first video detailed the mods to the MX-5 - a supercharger, some suspension upgrades and a new set of super-sticky rubber being chief among them - and set baseline lap times for the stock car, today, we have the results of the 5,000-pound ($8,200) upgrade job.
Of course, we aren't going to spoil those for you. You'll need to watch the full video, which recaps the upgrades before digging into a comparison of both straight-line-speed differences between the 2.7-liter Porsche Boxster and blown Miata, as well as their behavior and lap times on the track.
Take a look and let us know what you think in Comments.
