2008 Mazda 3 S Grand Touring on 2040-cars
Madison, Wisconsin, United States
I acquired
this 2008 Mazda 3 S Grand Touring 4-door
sedan brand new and I am selling it because I have a new car on the way. It has
been driven all its life by a little old man, and that would be me. I initially
leased it, and then I liked it so much that I bought it. It now has only 54,611 miles on it and been cared for meticulously.
It is the S Grand Touring model, which is the most premium of the trim levels. It also has virtually every option available that year, including pearlescent white paint; factory navigation system; moonroof; and the BOSE 7-Speaker audio system, which includes a subwoofer, and in-dash 6-CD changer. It’s a 5-speed manual, which is rare for the S Grand Touring model, and the reason I was attracted to it. The interior is black leather and has lots of bells & whistles including a 60/40 fold down rear seat, steering-wheel audio controls, auxiliary audio input for your IPod or whatever, automatic climate control, etc., etc. It also has a very easy-to-use factory GPS navigation system with a nice big screen, which I'm gonna miss. Cosmetically this car is superb with virtually not a scratch on it. I had both the interior and exterior of this car professionally detailed March 24 for a cost of $137.02. It included shampooing & extracting the carpets, as well as washing & buffing the exterior and applying hard-wax. Routine maintenance and oil-change were conducted last March 11 at 54,371 or 240 miles ago. Tires were new at 25,744 so have 28,867 on them. One recall was attended to [power steering pump]. Have maintenance records, of course. No accidents. This car listed for $23,775 new. I plugged the details into Edmond.com to appraise it. Dealer retail is $12,692. I am no dealer, so I have set the reserve significantly below that. In sum, if you’re in the market for a small sporty sedan that’s 5- or 6-years old with low miles, with a 5-speed manual, then you’re not going to find one nicer than this. To quote Edmond’s on the Mazda 3 S Grand Touring model: “Entertaining yet sophisticated in demeanor, the 2008 Mazda 3 doesn't look, feel or drive like an economy car. If you're shopping for a small, inexpensive sedan or hatchback, this car should be at the top of your list.” I will be glad to help you with shipping this puppy to wherever you are. But the entire cost and all the details are your own. Winning bidder must send me $500 via PayPal within 24 hours, which in nonrefundable. Payment upon pickup must be in cash or cashier's check. No personal checks, postage stamps, etc. No Canadian bidders please. (Had a bad experience with that.) Thank you for reading all this stuff. |

Jay Leno celebrates Mazda Miata's 25th birthday
Mon, 10 Feb 2014Ask a car enthusiast what the best driver's car on the road is, and the Mazda MX-5 Miata is very likely to come up rather quickly. Unjustly saddled with a reputation as a "chick's car," the Miata has been, over its three generations, one of the finest driving instruments ever built - it's light, agile and rear-wheel drive with direct, snappy steering, an engine that revels in being revved and a precise, smooth-shifting transmission. The fact that it's ridiculously affordable and reliable is simply a bonus.
It should come as no surprise then, that a car with these traits has endured for 25 years, a milestone reached only by some of the most famous nameplates in the auto industry - Corvette, Mustang, F-150, SL, M3 and so on. To celebrate its 25th anniversary, Jay Leno spent some time with the little roadster that could, while also chatting with two of the Mazda employees that were central to the MX-5's arrival on the world's automotive scene, Bob Hall and Tom Matano.
Take a look below for the latest video from Jay Leno's Garage on the excellent Mazda MX-5 Miata.
Mazda engineers urging execs for more RWD models
Wed, 02 Oct 2013According to Edmunds, Mazda engineers are pressuring the company to create more rear-wheel-drive models, in an effort to better differentiate itself from its rivals. This push is reportedly coming from middle and senior engineers within the company, and these folks at Mazda believe this rear-drive strategy would allow the automaker to produce more distinctive, fun to drive cars. Mazda discontinued the rear-drive (and rotary-engined) RX-8 a few years ago, leaving the MX-5 Miata as the company's only RWD offering.
As enthusiasts, we're fully on board with Mazda offering more rear-drive cars, but unsurprisingly, the company's top management isn't exactly keen on the idea - and with good reason. First and foremost, the cost associated with redesigning fresh architecture for new models would be very high, and considering the fact that Mazda hasn't exactly been raking in the dough lately, an expensive new venture like this doesn't make a whole lot of sense. What's more, Mazda's latest front-drive models - the Mazda3, Mazda6 and CX-5 - have been very well-received, and are helping the company gain sales momentum.
But that doesn't mean there aren't other options. Edmunds reminds us that Mazda is already partnering with Alfa Romeo on the next-generation Miata, and if this collaboration is successful, perhaps the relationship could bear additional fruit. After all, Alfa Romeo is said to be working on returning to its rear-wheel-drive roots, so Mazda's engineers might be able to make a case for more RWD goodness after all.
Lexus, Mazda win KBB 5-Year Cost To Own Awards
Wed, 05 Feb 2014We focus a lot on what new cars are like to drive, but it's difficult on a one-week loan to really get a sense of what a car is like to live with. Sure, we try to recreate that sense with our long-term vehicles, but even after a year, it's impossible to know fully learn about a car, particularly in terms of reliability and cost of repairs. For 2014 model year vehicles, Kelley Blue Book has put together a list of the most affordable vehicles over a five-year period.
At the tippy top of the list are Mazda and Lexus, with the Zoom-Zoom automaker winning the award for best non-luxury brand. Lexus, meanwhile, was the most affordable luxury marque over a five-year period. It's interesting to note, though, that not a single Mazda won its segment in this year's awards.
General Motors did quite well, taking eight segments, including both the subcompact and plug-in segments, with the gas-powered Chevrolet Spark and Spark EV. The Chevy Camaro SS and ZL1 took the high-performance car award. Toyota was well represented, with five winners split between the main brand (Corolla, Prius C and Tacoma) and Lexus (LS and RX).
