'Gran Turismo Sport' Super Bundle comes with a real Mazda Miata
Tue, Oct 17 2017"Gran Turismo Sport" is now on sale (stay tuned for a full review in the near future), and as with most video games now, there are basic versions and those that come with a few extras. For instance, in the United States there's a Limited Edition version that includes the full game, plus a metal box, several Group B rally cars and a couple of prototype cars unlocked, as well as 1,000,000 credits available at the start. It's a pretty meager special edition compared with the "Gran Turismo Sport" Super Bundle on offer in Taiwan, though. The Super Bundle lives up to its name primarily because it comes with a real, drivable Mazda MX-5 Miata. It comes in Soul Red and features custom Gran Turismo vinyl graphics. On top of that, the bundle comes with a Bravia 4K HDR OLED TV, a Playstation 4 Pro, Playstation VR, a year of Playstation Plus (the online multiplayer service), a Thrustmaster T-GT steering wheel controller, and an Apiga AP1 racing seat for playing the game. Oh, and of course it comes with a copy of the game. Funny enough, this isn't the first time a car has been offered as part of a video game bundle. When " Grid 2" launched a few years ago, the developer, Codemasters, partnered with BAC to sell a Mono edition. This special edition of the game came with a real life BAC Mono with "Grid 2" livery. There's no such thing as a free lunch, or a free car for that matter. At current exchange rates, the " Gran Turismo Sport" Super Bundle costs just shy of $46,300. Now that's a much more affordable proposition than the " Grid 2" BAC Mono package, which rang in at about $189,000, though the Miata is a much more affordable car with less performance. Americans shouldn't be disappointed the " Gran Turismo Sport" Super Bundle isn't available here, though. This is because the Super Bundle can be re-created here for much less money. Every item in the bundle plus a Miata Sport with a manual transmission and the Soul Red paint would come to a little under $32,000, a savings of over $14,000. Forza Horizon G-Shock Car Pack brings Nissan IDx, Subaru Brat [w/video]
Tue, Jan 6 2015With winter's icy grip around much of the nation, now may be the perfect time to sit inside at night and enjoy some video games. The latest six-car G-Shock pack for Forza Horizon 2 on the Xbox One is now here, and it gives players a very eclectic group of vehicles to race around the game's open world. This month's group of vehicles spans the decades ranging from 2015 back to 1953. The newest and only concept of the group is the 2015 Nissan IDX Nismo. Since the production chances for this retro coupe look increasingly slim, this game might be your only chance to get behind the concept's wheel. However, if you prefer driving something a bit more classic and Italian, the 1953 Ferrari 500 Mondial is available. To add one more flavor of performance, there is the 2010 Mazda Mazdasped 3 hot hatch, which is also this month's free car for download. In addition to three takes on the sports car, Turn 10 is also offering a trio of off-roaders. The quirkiest among them is the 1980 Subaru Brat GL, which features two jump seats in the back to avoid the dreaded chicken tax. If you prefer something more boxy and American, then the 1975 Ford Bronco is sure to please. Finally, for some real power to get through the mud, there's the 2013 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor as tuned by Shelby with a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 making 575 horsepower. As usual, the whole pack costs players $5 to download, or it's free as part of the season pass. Scroll down for a brief video showing all of these virtual rides off and read the press release about them from Turn 10 Studios. This content is hosted by a third party. Are you ready to hit the roads of "Forza Horizon 2" for Xbox One in some new rides? You better be because the G-Shock Car Pack is lighting up the new year with some amazing vehicles. Leading off the pack is a "Forza" First: the 2015 Nissan IDx NISMO is making its videogame debut in "Forza Horizon 2." The IDx prototype harkens back to Nissan's storied automotive history, with its compact size and aggressive appearance, and looks to the future with some serious under-the-hood performance. Take a spin in this gem, and you will be startled by its performance and charmed by its presence. The remaining cars of the pack also have "Horizon Festival" written all over them.
2018 L.A. Auto Show: 5-plus takeaways on Jeep, Honda, Porsche and more
Thu, Nov 29 2018The 2018 L.A. Auto Show is making a strong case that auto shows aren't dead. Carmakers are ladling out sports cars and SUVs featuring serious style and performance in Los Angeles, and it's a feast for the senses. We're talking the new Porsche 911, the long-awaited Jeep Gladiator and the stylish Mazda3. It's the best car show with the most important reveals since the 2018 Detroit Auto Show kicked off the year. Here are some quick reactions: The 2019 Jeep Gladiator is a rock star When the story went live on Autoblog, our traffic went straight up. I've literally never seen the graph go straight up. So yeah, you guys seem to like it. I do, too. It's everything I want in a vehicle, including enough of a retro feel that it satisfies my cravings for an old Cherokee XJ. It's more capable and likely more expensive than I originally anticipated, but Jeep is going to have to expand its Toledo factory to keep up with demand. Don't be fooled by whatever the politicians say when that happens. It's because people like Jeeps and pickups, and this is the hero sandwich of all of that. I'd likely go with the 3.6-liter and a manual transmission if I were buying a Gladiator, but the diesel is compelling, too. Gladiator is a great name, drenched in history. I like it better than Scrambler, which never felt right to me. Only issue: It's a little over-the-top. Imagine this conversation: "So, ready to go to Panera?" "Sure, let's take the Gladiator." I mean, it's a bit much to refer to your personal vehicle as the Gladiator. Unless Russell Crowe is driving it. Then it's fine. The 2020 Porsche 911 is conservatively brilliant Every time I drive a 718 Cayman, Jaguar F-Type or another 911 challenger, I wonder if the 911 may be over the hill. It's not. And it likely never will be. This latest generation, dubbed 992 in Porsche-speak, stayed the course. The back takes some Mission E stylings that give the 911 a more modern feel. The flat six gets a little more power. The digital-heavy interior looks futuristic and slick. But overall, it's a blocking-and-tackling update that should satisfy the purists and maybe draw in a few new Porsche fans. It's the right time for the 2019 Honda Passport This slots between the Honda CR-V and the Honda Pilot. That's serious segmentation, but it's another crossover, and it's undoubtedly what the people want.
