I'm moving so my Miata is up for sale -- we have to get down to one car and this just isn't practical enough to be it.

It is a 2006 Miata in Winning Blue -- the only year that color was for sale and thus rare.  It has low mileage for its year and is great shape.  It's setup as a bit of a sleeper -- the engine and everything is stock -- but the suspension is $3300 of Good Win Racing's race valved Ohlins Coilovers with Yokohama Advan AD08 tires for razor sharp turn in and fixing the biggest complaint of the NC -- handling and the 4x4 look. Wheels were left stock to avoid the tuner look and the ride height is very manageable (this car makes it into my driveway without scraping whereas our stock Golf scrapes). The car is corner balanced and aligned with a "fun to drive" alignment. What is noticeable is when the car takes turns at ~1g with near zero body roll while being comfortable.

The coilovers are valved stiffer than normal, but are adjustable.  For those that would like something softer you can purchase the "road and track" springs for the Ohlins DFV from Good Win Racing for under $400.    The DFV and Ohlins quality makes them very tolerable on the street.  I've done all-day drives with no issues.

The full hood, mirrors, bumper, and front half of the fenders are all covered in XPEL Self Healing Film. The rest of the car was done in Wolf's Hard Body (check it out -- similar to Opti Coat but much more slick with great hardness).

Oil has been synthetic since new -- previous owner did M1 and I did Royal Purple.

The Not so Good: Top destrapped and rubbed against the frame during the first owner's life, it caused a weak spot in the top which was repaired -- slight cosmetic. One door ding on the passenger side and a ding/ slight scratch near the rear of the passenger side.  Both should be able to be fixed by a good PDR tech.  All these issues are depicted in my pictures next to my pointing fingers.

The Car Comes With:
AD08s (Installed)
Near New Run Flat Tires RE050 (In a tower of tires)
Stock Suspension (In Boxes)
Ohlins DFV (Installed)
Full Xpel Self Healing

I can pick up from Dothan Airport (DHN), Montgomery Airport (MGM), Pensacola (PNS), VPS, and ECB.

I have owned NA1.6 NA1.8, NB, and this NC is my favorite Miata because of safety and the convenience of the Z-Fold top.

The car is currently under a non-transferable warranty. Meaning any issues I would have would be fixed -- but there are none.  However the new owner will not have this warranty unfortunately (it was provided by the dealer I bought the car from and is non-transferable)

The car needs to be picked up within 14 days of auction close -- I am moving.  Clear Washington Title in Hand (I'm Military thus the out of state title - WA is my home state).

Feds investigating 2010-11 Mazda CX-9 CUVs over braking issues

Mon, 17 Feb 2014

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is investigating 62,000, 2010-2011 Mazda CX-9 models over brake problems. The government safety watchdog says it has received seven complaints of an observed loss of power braking power to stop the crossover, according to the The Detroit News.
The NHTSA complaints say that the problem causes a hard pedal, increased braking effort and reduced braking effectiveness. Some complaints allege that they hear a hissing noise during braking similar to the sound of air leaving the tires. No injuries or crashes have been reported.
"As always, we are fully cooperating with NHTSA on their investigation. We cannot comment further at this time," said Mazda spokesperson Tamara Mlynarczyk to The Detroit News.

Mazda engineer explains why there won't be a Mazdaspeed3

Mon, Feb 4 2019

When Mazda put the new, beautiful Mazda3 on its stand at last year's L.A. Auto Show, it didn't take long before someone asked about a Mazdaspeed3. It took even less time for the Japanese automaker's new global boss, Akira Marumoto, to cite his company's small size and say, " [My] answer would be no." During first drives of the compact hatch last month, Road & Track asked Mazda development vehicle engineer Dave Coleman what Mazda would need in order to resurrect an MPS version. Coleman detailed a few reasons for the Mazdaspeed's continued hiatus, the prohibitive cost foremost. But another hitch is that the Mazdaspeed we'd get now isn't the Mazdaspeed enthusiasts would want. Coleman told the magazine, "If we had an engine on the shelf that would fit that properly, then we could talk." But the price to develop an engine and supporting hardware to do the car right isn't in the budget for an automaker of Mazda's size. Perhaps more important, though, present-day Mazda wouldn't — and couldn't — whip up another raw, rapid hatch. The competition, and consumers, have changed. "Even the Mazdaspeed 3, in its last iteration, came out as raw as it did due to the constraints," Coleman said, and today's market won't put up with that kind of buzzy, excitable uncouth anymore. The question is, even if Mazda had the money, do the buyers pining for a zoom-zoomier Mazda3 want the mature, composed hot hatch they'd be offered? Head over to Road & Track to read Coleman's take on the matter, and how he lays out the gap that would swallow any potential MPS as, "What you think you want is rawness. What you really want is responsiveness and directness." Related Video: This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings.

10 of 18 midsize SUVs earn 'good' IIHS side impact safety rating

Wed, May 18 2022

It's not terribly surprising that midsize SUVs earned better safety ratings than small SUVs in the latest side-impact tests performed by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Just how much better they scored, on the other hand, certainly raises an eyebrow. Ten out of 18 midsize SUVs earned the highest rating of 'good' in the stringent new test, altered for vehicles starting with the 2020 model year with a heavier barrier (4,200 pounds) that moves at a higher speed (37 miles per hour) and is fitted with a hard honeycomb frontal structure. By way of contrast, just one out of of 20 small SUVs earned a 'good' score.  SUVs that receiving 'good' scores were the Ford Explorer, Infiniti QX60, Lincoln Aviator, Mazda CX-9, Nissan Pathfinder, Subaru Ascent, Toyota Highlander, Volkswagen Atlas, Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport and Volkswagen ID.4. For EV fans, it's worth noting the ID.4 was the only electric vehicle included in the test. The Buick Enclave and Chevrolet Traverse scraped away with 'acceptable' ratings while the Honda Passport, Honda Pilot, Hyundai Palisade, Jeep Wrangler 4-door, Kia Telluride and Nissan Murano were deemed merely 'marginal' in the tough new test. Only two models — the Mazda CX-9 and Volkswagen ID.4 — earned a "Good" rating in every test category.  Interestingly, the Jeep Wrangler would have scored a 'good' rating if it were equipped with side airbags for the rear seating positions. It would likely be an engineering challenge to equip its removable top and/or doors with airbags, but the lack of that safety feature allowed the head of the rear passenger dummy to hit the vertical support of the top. Otherwise, the Wrangler scored good ratings across the board. The new Ford Bronco, which makes more allowances for side-impact safety, has not yet been tested.  The popular Hyundai Palisade and Kia Telluride SUVs stand out in the test with 'poor' ratings for driver pelvis injuries. The Nissan Murano, a vehicle last redesigned for the 2015 model year, was the only vehicle tested that received a 'poor' rating for its structure and safety cage. Videos of the tests of 12 of these 18 SUVs can be found on the IIHS' YouTube page.
