1997 Mazda Miata convertible.
~158k, Driven almost daily until the snow started to fall. Good tread left on tires, Toyo Proxes R1R Extreme-Performance Summer Tires, racing compound, street legal, rain safe, soft. on super light enki (racing <12lbs each) wheels. Clean undercarriage, no rot, was painted previous to my purchasing by previous owner. Currently has NY inspection, good thru June 2014. Check engine light is NOT on. Does consume 1/2 quart of oil ever 3500 miles or so. does not smoke or drip. Synthetic oil change every 3500 miles. spare new air filter. Power windows (slow but still work, tracks need lubricating), powers steering, 5 speed manual. 1.8l 4cyl, with stock "type" exhaust installed. This exhaust is a little bit louder than a stock muffler. Car has AC system, compressor kicks on when button is pressed, however I would guess no coolant in system. I did not check it, my intent would have been to remove the weight. it is a convertible. Heater works well. Drilled and slotted disc brake rotors. Neoprene bushing kit installed to stiffen up the ride for autocross. the previous owner raced it a couple of times. (autocross is parking lot time trial type racing, car against cones and clock) Cloth interior, seat show signs of wear, no large rips or tears. Good glass and mirrors. Kenwood DVD/CD, bluetooth deck, touch screen, iPod and iPhone (4s) compatible controls through the screen (need to buy the cable). Satellite radio ready. Kicker front component speakers with door tweeters, Seat headrest speakers. Floor mats Black manual soft top has a few nicks and scrapes, zip down rear vinyl window. Does not appear to leak. EXTRAS A vanity chrome "roll bar" (they say it offers no roll over protection). Borla racing stainless steel cat back exhaust with removable baffle (not installed) ($461 from Borla direct) super loud, supposedly adds HP! stock exhaust from a 1994. needs a port for the second o2 sensor to be able to be used with the 97, but direct fit. plastic/clear behind seat wind screen. rear hitch for bike rack and or towing (I used it for bike rack). spare tire, jack, custom paint. |

A tuned 1973 Mazda RX-3 is all business on Petrolicious
Wed, Feb 17 2016People with good memories might remember Savant Young and his highly modified 1973 Mazda RX-3 from an appearance on Jay Leno's Garage last summer. Now Petrolicious spotlights him and learns more about his amazing rotary coupe. After extensive upgrades, his car packs an estimated 400 horsepower, which is especially potent with only around 2,000 pounds to move around. Young thinks his Mazda is a perfect expression of his personality as a martial artist because it offers no frills and is all about business. This coupe looks ready for a fight, too, and sounds like a swarm of angry bees going down the road. Young works hard during the week but makes time to drive the RX-3 every weekend. We can understand why. A few hours enjoying this rotary could definitely erase some stress. Get a taste of this amazing machine in Petrolicious' latest video. If you want to experience another cool rotary, the channel profiled an RX-2 racecar from Australia last month. Related Video:
2020 Mazda3 hatchback starts at $24,620, a $100 increase
Wed, Aug 28 2019Car and Driver got the scoop on some 2020 Mazda3 pricing, and anyone waiting for the new model year had better bring more money. The Mazda3 sedan goes up by $500 to $21,500. After the $920 destination charge, that's a total of $22,420. On the sedan, however, the extra dosh pays for extra equipment. Every sedan trim gets Mazda's i-Activsense driver assistance tech, meaning adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, and lane-departure warning. The i-Activsense suite had been an option the sedan's entry-level trims. The Mazda3 sedan in Select guise, one step above the entry-level model, increases $100 to $23,620. Starting price for the front-wheel drive 2020-model-year hatchback comes in at $24,620 after destination. C/D says that's a $1,020 bump, but we believe that figure is an error. Based on the fact that Mazda's U.S. pricing rounds off to the nearest hundred and destination is $920, it seems more likely the $24,620 price includes destination. In that case, the 2020 Mazda3 hatch only goes up by $100. The five-door models don't get any more equipment, but Mazda say's there's a new finish for the wheels on the top-tier Premium trim. All other trims hold steady. The 2.5-liter four-cylinder with a square 186 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque remains the sole engine option, a six-speed automatic is the standard transmission on all trims, the hatchback in Premium form offering a six-speed manual option. Buyers of the entry-level sedan are stuck with front-wheel drive, while every other trim offers all-wheel drive for $1,400. The sedans should hit dealerships this month, and the hatchbacks will roll in come September.
Mazda CX-5 in auto-brake accident on Japanese test drive
Thu, 14 Nov 2013As we slowly march towards a world where our cars will drive for us, there will be mishaps. Systems will act up, not behave has intended or we'll simply forget to turn them on. We all remember when Volvo tested the S60's City Safety system. Now Mazda has had an issue of its own.
During a test of a Mazda CX-5's Smart City Brake Support on a dealership lot in Japan, a prospective customer and a dealership employee were injured when they hit a urethane barrier used for testing the system. According to Bloomberg, which spoke with the Saitama Prefectural Police, the impact with the barrier left the customer with an injured neck while the dealership employee suffered a fractured arm. Considering the injuries, we imagine this wasn't a small barrier.
"For any safety function, it's impossible to be 100-percent free of accidents. These technical functions aren't always the easiest to understand," IHS Automotive auto parts analyst, Hiroshi Ataka told Bloomberg.
