This is a 2 owner '94 Miata with low miles, excellent paint, new tires and wheels (less than 3000 miles on tires). The car was driven by my wife in in good weather. It was one of only 1218 '94 Miatas produced with the R Sport Package. The R Package includes front and rear air dams, rear trunk lid spoiler, Bilstein shocks and a special anti-slip rear end. The car was painted in 2005 using the original white paint with a light gold metal flake clear coat to make it shine gold in the sunlight. The paint is in overall great shape with the exception of a small ding in the trunk lid (See Pictures) where the trunk was shut on an object that dented the lid. The dent is pretty much gone, but there is a noticeable star in the paint on the trunk (see photos). other than that, there is a small crack by the drivers side front tire. That is all I see wrong with the paint. The car has been garaged since we got it in 2001. When we bought the car, it had the gold plated hardware. It came with 14" gold spoke ENKI wheels that were not in really great shape ( I still have them and will give them to the new owner if wanted). The gold trim was not a factory option, but at the time was added as an option by the original selling dealer. We liked the fact that the gold made the car unique, so to accent that we replaced the original black top (which was in pretty bad shape) with the tan top in December of 2001. The top is still in great shape (see pictures). We put in a new battery a few years ago and also had high performance plug wires installed . I have religiously changed the oil & filter every 3000 miles. Last fall (October 2012) we replaced the old ENKI wheels with new gold star DRAG wheels and put on new Kumho Exsta 195/50R 15 Tires. These tires have less than 3000 miles on them. We also replaced the covers on the seats with black vinyl with tan inserts to match the tan top and the overall color scheme. The seat covers are still in good shape. The original radio was replaced with a Panasonic AM/FM CD player. The interior is in good shape with the exception of a crack in the console arm rest (see photos). It still has the original Miata floor mats, with the driver side mat showing a little wear. The carpet underneath is still in great shape. My wife liked the custom dash blankets, so we have one on the dash, but the dash is in excellent shape underneath, so the dash blanket could be removed and the dash will look like new. I took a picture of the dash underneath so you can see what it looks like. I believe this pretty much defines the condition of the car. It has always been very dependable and great fun to drive. One other side note, the car did not have the owners manual when we bought it, but all the data you might need for the car maintenance is available on the web.

2014 Mazda6 i Sport
Fri, 01 Feb 2013In an automotive landscape dominated by platform sharing, technology exchange and any number of other cross-fertilization/cost-saving/amortization exercises, it's actually pretty rare that we get to drive a new car that is as "all-new" as this, the 2014 Mazda6. With brand-spanking new Skyactiv architecture throughout - engine, transmission, body and chassis all included - this 6 represents a new era of flexible production and cutting edge running gear for the happily lithe car company.
Our own Jonathon Ramsey did a cracking job of running the Mazda6 through its First Drive paces a few months ago, and sufficiently impressed upon us just how good looking a car this is for the midsize sedan segment. Suffice it to say, now, then, that this is easily the most interesting (and quite possibly the most beautiful) midsize sedan in the segment today. However, as Mr. Ramsey reviewed a fully contented example of the 6 - one equipped with the six-speed automatic transmission - we took advantage of Mazda's North American launch event of the car to suss out the base Mazda6 i Sport, complete with its six-speed Skyactiv manual gearbox. This may not shock you, but the stripper's pretty good, too.

Sweating the small stuff | 2017 Mazda CX-5 First Drive
Mon, Mar 13 2017The 2017 Mazda CX-5's door handles got their own design study. They got their own graphs, maths, and a team of people scientifically analyzing how humans interact with them. There was a whole to-do. And yet, you look at them back-to-back with their predecessors, a Spockian eyebrow reaching to the stars, and wonder what all the fuss was about. But apparently they're better. They're also perfectly illustrative of the entire effort to re-engineer and improve Mazda's best-selling model. At first, the 2017 Mazda CX-5 seems like a sensible evolution of its well-loved predecessor – there's sexier styling, a more premium cabin, and additional features, but the dimensions and engine specs look awfully similar. It certainly looks like one of those "the old car's great, let's not overthink the new one" redesigns. Except it isn't. Dig deeper and you'll see just how much meticulous work – from the door handles to the throttle response – went into making the new CX-5 a crossover that thoroughly trounces the majority of its competition. Take the efforts to make it quieter. According to Mazda's internal measurements, the sound-quelling improvements made for the CX-5's 2016 refresh already made it one of the quietest compact SUVs on the market. That apparently wasn't good enough. To what seems like an absurd degree, Mazda's engineers obsessively examined every nook, cranny, corner, and crevice to sniff out noise and eliminate it. Gaps were filled, insulation was injected, seals were added, air was redirected, glass was double glazed, and carpet replaced plastic coverings. It would seem that the Society of Persnickety Engineers is well represented at Mazda HQ. "I'm not sure how they found some of these," said Mazda vehicle development engineer Dave Coleman with a shake of his head, almost amused by the obsession and dedication of his colleagues across the proverbial hall in the sound-deadening department. (He goes over many of their enhancements in the video below.) And it worked. The new CX-5 is indeed incredibly quiet, even on San Diego's notoriously loud corrugated concrete freeways. It is quiet for a Mazda – a brand previously known for the exact opposite – and the entire segment. Even the fairly quiet 2017 Honda CR-V we drove on the same freeways on the way to San Diego couldn't match it. Actually, much of the driving experience can't be matched by a competitor.
Mazda engineers urging execs for more RWD models
Wed, 02 Oct 2013According to Edmunds, Mazda engineers are pressuring the company to create more rear-wheel-drive models, in an effort to better differentiate itself from its rivals. This push is reportedly coming from middle and senior engineers within the company, and these folks at Mazda believe this rear-drive strategy would allow the automaker to produce more distinctive, fun to drive cars. Mazda discontinued the rear-drive (and rotary-engined) RX-8 a few years ago, leaving the MX-5 Miata as the company's only RWD offering.
As enthusiasts, we're fully on board with Mazda offering more rear-drive cars, but unsurprisingly, the company's top management isn't exactly keen on the idea - and with good reason. First and foremost, the cost associated with redesigning fresh architecture for new models would be very high, and considering the fact that Mazda hasn't exactly been raking in the dough lately, an expensive new venture like this doesn't make a whole lot of sense. What's more, Mazda's latest front-drive models - the Mazda3, Mazda6 and CX-5 - have been very well-received, and are helping the company gain sales momentum.
But that doesn't mean there aren't other options. Edmunds reminds us that Mazda is already partnering with Alfa Romeo on the next-generation Miata, and if this collaboration is successful, perhaps the relationship could bear additional fruit. After all, Alfa Romeo is said to be working on returning to its rear-wheel-drive roots, so Mazda's engineers might be able to make a case for more RWD goodness after all.
