UPDATE: We have sold the 002 car to a private buyer in PA, USA. The car will be built starting SEPT 2014 and delivered in JAN 2015. We are looking for 2 more buyers, to complete a series of three cars to be delivered then. We will use the same payment system for the three cars: $2500 deposit, and the rest is divided into three monthly payments. That way you pay as you see the progress on your car.

This is the info on the original auction:

Hello, this auction is for a handmade vintage racer body and chassis only. Please read the full description and  photos, feel free to ask any questions. The following is a 16mm film shot in may 2014 of the car at the Autodromo de Tocancipa in Bogota, Colombia.

This car is the best option for running some of the vintage races with the best ratio of fun to cost.  I only sell what I make, that way you decide how much you want to spend on the engine, transmission, and other options. Delivery time is four months.

The car will be custom built and fit for you, with several options available. Two place, or mono posto, that is also your choice.

The car will be hand built by myself, and my assistants in our small shop in Bogota, Colombia. I not a parts salesman, I am a car builder, so I will not sell any of the parts required to complete the car, but I will guide you to the right vendors. I will also build a parts list with you. I want to make clear that although I won’t be making any money off these parts, since you will be buying them directly, I will work with you throughout the process. If you want me to assemble the car, I can do it here or in the USA for you at an additional cost.

The car in the photographs is my first prototype, the car you will be purchasing will be built using our new buck, with a similar shape but better details. The new buck is slightly more similar to the Porsche 550, but is still different enough not to be a replica. Please see attached photos. This is a Porsche inspired car, not a replica.

About the body:

The handmade body will be shaped out of 1.5mm aluminum, shaped using an English wheel and gas (oxy/acetylene) welded.  The new car has a bonnet and opening rear. The aluminum seats are included, upholstered in leather on the color of your choice

About the chassis:

The chassis is TIG welded mild steel, in a shape similar to the Porsche RSK, but using a rear suspension derived from the Formula Vee racers. This suspension has proven itself during decades of racing and is lighter and stronger than the original Porsche/VW. The chassis includes your choice of integral roll bar or none.

What is included:

The alloy body, painted or polished. with all necessary parts to be attached to the chassis. The chassis, with all brackets and supports. The seats for the car. The stainless steel fuel tank is also included in the price.

What is not included: Rear shock, engine, transmission, wheels, steering wheel, pedals, front suspension, brakes, steering box, and instruments. Everything else needed to complete the car.

About the engine options:

With the right vintage engine and gearbox this car can race most of the vintage race events around the world. Yes, it is not a four million dollar Porsche 550, but you will have just as much fun driving it as the Porsche. Porsche 912 or VW engines and gearboxes can be installed. You choose how much you want to spend. My opinion is that a 2000cc VW engine is the best option.

About delivery:

I will deliver the car to you. That means I will take care of the transportation and import to the USA. But It will be imported as parts. I am not a lawyer, so I will not register the car for you, or assume any liability on its use as a vehicle.

The car has been proven at local events. You will have as much fun driving it as I have building them. Please contact me for any additional info.

UPDATE: Stellantis says it is not selling Maserati

Mon, Jul 29 2024

In a joint statement, Stellantis and Maserati have refuted reports that the Italian brand could be sold: Stellantis has no intention of selling the Trident brand, just as there is no intention of aggregating Maserati within other Italian luxury groups. Stellantis restates its unwavering commitment to Maserati’s bright future as the unique luxury brand within the 14 Stellantis brands. Maserati is in a transition period toward electrification with its Folgore BEV program: today the Trident offers GranTurismo and GranCabrio in ICE and BEV versions, Grecale in ICE, mild-hybrid and BEV versions, while we confirm that successors of the Quattroporte and Levante are also in preparation. Maserati's mission is to write the future of mobility through the best performance in the luxury segment, focusing on the desires of its customers. To achieve its goals, the brand precisely targets a highly specific audience. Maserati is therefore setting up a series of initiatives to expand its presence in the global market, to strengthen its brand image and to underline the uniqueness of its products. Maserati is facing a major challenge and must remain focused on its objectives in the coming months. Stellantis reaffirms its commitment to its entire portfolio of 14 iconic brands and recalls that each of them has a 10-year horizon to build a profitable and sustainable business, while recognizing that market volatility and temporary situations may cause fluctuations. The original story continues: Maserati posted disappointing sales and revenue figures shortly after Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares warned that the group can't afford to have brands that don't make money. While nothing is set in stone, one of the group's executives said that selling the brand isn't off the table. Industry trade journal Automotive News Europe (subscription required) learned that Maserati sold approximately 6,500 cars globally between January and June 2024, down from around 15,300 units during the same time period in 2023. It posted an adjusted operating loss of ˆ82 million (about $88.7 million) during the first six months of the year, compared to a profit of ˆ121 million (about $130 million) in 2023. "The first half has been disappointing," admitted Natalie Knight, the chief financial officer at Stellantis, on a call with journalists.

2018 Maserati GranTurismo First Drive | Better with age?

Tue, Aug 1 2017

There are not many rational reasons for owning a Maserati GranTurismo (or GranCabrio convertible, for that matter). Even Maserati admits this. The short list occupies a single paragraph. Firstly, the GranTurismo is not German. Don't laugh. For some people, that's enough. Secondly, it has rear-seat space and comfort that remains the class benchmark. Thirdly, its cabin is the place where art and craftsmanship meet. There are far more rational reasons to not buy one. Let's tick them off, since we're in the mood. Firstly, it's already had its tenth birthday. It's not jeepers-fast by today's standards and neither is it remotely frugal. It drives the back wheels through a six-speed transmission, so it has 50 percent fewer gear ratios than AMG. Also, the only thing light about it is the weight of its driver-assistance systems. The 4.7-liter GranTurismo and its roofless GranCabrio sibling prospered in the plus-minus ledgers early in their careers, but they now operate outside them, in the sketchbooks of translated emotion. The Pininfarina-designed body is still stunning, a decade on, from any angle. It's had some tickles on the front and rear bumpers to make the grille more like the one on the Alfieri concept car, there are new headlights in the same space and the aerodynamics have been cleaned up so it can streak beyond 186 mph. When we say "streak" we really mean "creep" because it tops out at 187 mph. It has air vents behind the front wheels now, but they're not functional, and neither are the three signature vents high up on the front fenders. Maserati's aero guys tested German cars with working air vents and found their aero contributions were minimal. The air inlet on the MC's is, though, and so are the twin hot-air outlets that give the carbon-fiber hood its exaggerated contours. The big news from the Powertrain Department is that it's been busy eliminating stuff, rather than doing new things. It simplified its life by killing off the entry-level 4.2-liter V8, so the only engine in the entire range now is the Ferrari-built 4.7-liter, 90-degree V8. Don't think of bolting in the torque-rich twin-turbo V6 motor from the Ghibli, Quattroporte or Levante – or the twin-turbo V8, either – since neither are available. The V8 also comes in just the 453 horsepower version, regardless of whether you like the standard GranTurismo Sport or shell out another $17,745 for the $150,570 GranTurismo MC.

Maserati marks centenary with 50,000th unit at Grugliasco

Sat, Dec 6 2014

Maserati is celebrating its centenary this year, but if that wasn't enough of a milestone, the Trident marque has reached another, completing its 50,000th unit at its plant in Grugliasco. Whether 50,000 seems like a lot or a little depends largely on your perspective. Toyota, for example, sold over three times that many cars in the United States alone just this past month. But for Maserati and the Grugliasco plant, it's an awful lot. The plant was acquired not long ago from the failed Bertone coachbuilding operation to bolster the principal site in Modena. It just kicked off production barely two years ago in January 2013 and handles assembly of the Quattroporte and Ghibli – Maserati's top sellers, but hardly what you'd call "volume models" by any means. The landmark 50,000th vehicle was a Quattroporte S Q4 in dark grey with a red and black interior, bound for the US market that's reaching new sales records for the ambitious Mondenese automaker.
