This 1969 Lotus Elan S2 Coupe was purchased by a local Nashville Tennessee Vintage Racer and machine shop owner in 1991 from a fellow Vintage Racer from Atlanta Georgia. Shortly after his purchase of the car he disassembled the car for an allover repaint changing the color from the original yellow to British Racing Green. As is typically the case with “Body Shop Jail” the car sat at the body shop for almost 2 years before the paint job was completed and returned to the owner. By that time his interest in this car had lessened as he was involved with work on several of his other cars. For that reason this car was put on the “Way Back” burner and parked in storage since that time. The body on the car is in excellent condition with NO evidence of any accident damage. The new 20+ years ago paint job was probably nice back then however it now is average at best. The hood and trunk-lid are both in excellent condition. The original doors are very nice and will fit the car properly when properly adjusted. The power window motors and side glass are all complete and still in the doors along with the wiring. The unique and hard to find chrome window frames are in excellent condition. The door handles are missing. The front windshield is excellent along with an excellent original rear back glass. The front wiper arms are missing. The front headlights are complete and have the correct hideaway headlight actuators with the car. The front parking lights and lens are complete along with the original taillights. The front and rear bumpers are missing and not with the car. All the original weather-stripping is with the car and in poor condition. There is a bag with some new weather-stripping included with the car. Mechanically this car is MISSING THE ORIGINAL ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION! That’s right NO ENGINE AND NO TRANSMISSION! The original drive shaft and complete suspension is still in the car. The original engine and transmission now reside in a Vintage Race car owned by another person. The previous owner installed them in one of his Vintage Race cars and ultimately sold that car to another racer. The chassis under the car is the original chassis with the correct VIN number stamped in the chassis. The chassis is in excellent condition and is complete with all suspension components, brakes, six (6) original Lotus knock-off wheels and more. The original VIN tag is on the car along with the original DATA Tag on the inner fender. The power brake booster is off the car but is included with the car. This car was equipped with Air Conditioning. The A/C unit, some of the hoses, drier and A/C compressor are included with the car. The interior on the car is mostly complete however there are still missing parts. The original steering wheel is in excellent condition. The original seats and seat covers are in nice condition. I only have one door panel (driver’s side). The dash is totally complete with the original Speedometer, Tachometer and all the original switches and controls. The original wood dash is in nice condition. The center console is in nice condition. The rear seats are in nice condition. The rear sail panel and original rear package tray are included with the car. I have all the original carpet for the car, the side trim for the console and front floor. The original white headliner is still in the car. Also included will be an original Lotus Elan assembly manual and the supposedly original tool set provided with the car when new. This car is MISSING PARTS AND IS NOT COMPLETE. I have taken VERY DETAILED PICTURES OF ALL THE PARTS that go with the car. IF a part is not bolted on the car as shown in pictures OR not shown in the detailed pictures of parts I have included I DO NOT HAVE THAT PART! Lotus names Jean-Marc Gales as new CEO
Sun, 04 May 2014It's been about two years since DRB-Hicom took over Proton, and through it Lotus. One of its first courses of action was to fire the existing CEO, Dany Bahar, and proceed to scrap most if not all of his (arguably over-) ambitious plans. In his place they put one of their own - Aslam Farikullah - as Chief Operation Officer, but now the Malaysian-owned British automaker has attracted an industry heavyweight to lead it into the future.
That heavyweight is Jean-Marc Gales. The British- and German-educated Luxembourgian has spent the past couple of years running the European Association of Automotive Suppliers (CLEPA), but may be better known for his previous posting as CEO of PSA Peugeot Citroën between 2009 and 2012, during which time he introduced the Citroën DS line, amongst others, and increased the French automaker's sales. Before PSA he worked for Daimler, General Motors and Volkswagen.
As the new Chief Executive Officer of Group Lotus, Gales will face the difficult task of growing a business based on three models - the Elise, Exige and Evora - that date back to 1996, 2000 and 2009, respectively. Whether he'll push for new models like his predecessor did remains to be seen, but he'd be wise to learn from Bahar's mistakes and avoid overextending what has always been a relatively small automaker.
Lotus teases its sleek Type 130 electric hypercar
Tue, Apr 16 2019Lotus has shown a teaser image of a new concept, which will usher in the automaker's electric era. The Type 130 hypercar concept will be shown later this year in London, but this aerodynamic teaser is the first glimpse at its shapely flanks. The Type 130 is said to be in "advanced stages of development." According to Lotus, the Type 130 will spawn a production version, which will be the brand's first all-new vehicle in 11 years. It will be partially bankrolled by Lotus' parent company, the Chinese carmaker Geely, which also owns Volvo. Despite that, the hypercar will not be built in China, but in England. An earlier Autocar article estimated the eventual price at around $2.6 million. Last month, news broke that Lotus is also bringing another new car to market, but that one is likely to retain internal combustion technology along with engineering ties to older Lotus architecture, as it forms a sort of "bridge" between current Lotus products and its future cars. Hence, it can't be called "all-new" in the same sense as a fully electric halo model can. Lotus also noted some of its "firsts" when informing the media of the upcoming concept, which it calls "the world's first full-electric British hypercar." The 1995 Elise was the world's first aluminum and bonded extrusion construction production car, while the 1957 Elite was a production first in the sense that it first brought the composite monocoque within the reach of customers. Between those, there was a lot of groundbreaking F1 knowhow: ground effects for the '77 Type 78 F1 car, carbon fiber for the '81 Type 88, and active suspension in 1983.
Lotus to move immediately forward with new variants rather than new models
Mon, 22 Jul 2013It took 1.5 years, but a DRB-Hicom managing director told Malaysia's Business Times that the company has "cleaned up" the situation at Lotus from its finances to its marketing and image. The clean-up job we're most interested in, the product portfolio, will be demonstrated by financial investment in a three-year program of "variants based on existing products - variants with improved technology, improved performance."
You'll notice mention of the word "variants" three times but no mention of the phrase "new models." We knew that with the death of the five-new-model turnaround plan dreamed up by ex-Lotus CEO Dany Bahar DRB-Hicom said there'd only be three distinct lines - which is the current number - but during Lotus' trouble-plagued 2012 it sold just 80 cars all year, and for a tense spell it really wasn't clear if DRB-Hicom would commit to even keeping Lotus alive, much less investing in it.
It's not clear how much is being put into in the three-year program of offshoot models like the 345-horsepower Exige S Roadster (pictured), but it might be fair to say this is where Lotus' revival really begins, and does so with baby steps. Autocar reports that DRB-Hicom has already put 100 million pounds into the English carmaker, and as its issues were worked through Lotus has sold almost as many cars in the first five months of this year as it did all of last. That has not only convinced the Malaysian minders to throw more money its way, but the UK's business secretary has also approved a 10-million-pound investment into Lotus through the Regional Growth Facility program.
