1967 Lotus Elan Roadster on 2040-cars

This is a great little car. It's got a lot of heart. More importantly is its incredible Power-to Weight Ratio . Nimble steering and the short-throw shift lever make it an absolute joy to drive. Changing gears without an annoying "snick" is the norm with the Elan. Direct and quick =smooth. The car attracts a lot of attention either at MG's on the Rocks or at Cars & Coffee at Hunt Valley. Several upgrades done on my watch are new motor mounts , new starter(have the orig. Lucas), new Dynomax muffler and tailpipe, new Vredestein 155R-13 tires (I like the original look and handling), a Robbins top (new and in box),new points and condenser to replace Pertronix which replaced Luminition. Recent tune-up on Webers to eliminate "bogg" and timing by Merriman's. Modifications. Pat Braden's book helped me smooth out the engine with new "idle " jets 40 f-9. What a tiger she is now! I know of two previous owners who did a great job of maintaining improving /upgrading the car to keep her in very fine condition. Suspect broken speedometer at some time in past, as 24k. miles is perhaps lower than actual. Am selling my Lotus very reluctantly because of a back problem making it difficult to get in and out. I want to see some enthusiast take her on the backroads more often than I am able. Good luck!
On Nov-22-13 at 09:57:38 PST, seller added the following information: Need to insert a few more things that I have thought of regarding the condition of the car , accessories and availability to see it. It is indeed a Series 3 model and I hope the firewall mounted I.D. plate can answer some of your questions regarding its manufacture. Don't know anything about workability of the neat-fitting aftermarket radio/cassette with extending antenna. The drivers side window is showing a scratch as if the roller is askew. The rear-view mirror above the dash is pretty obviously original; the passenger side one is without identifying label, but on the drivers side is a Raydyot. The doughnuts look good and showing no signs of deterioration. Clutch works well, with no sign of slippage. The brakes are good but could need pads ; the rotors are smooth . One bidder has asked to see the car. Of course I will make the car available for inspection for any serious buyer or his agent at a mutually agreeable time. My ownership of the car has lasted about 3 years and 900 miles . The previous elderly owner was not talkative; I believe he had it for 10+ years. So, you must sleuth out the previous owners since she was built. The marketing of the car has been expanded to Worldwide I will continue to answer any serious questions on Ebay. Good Luck |

Elise Time Attack could be most extreme Lotus yet
Mon, 07 Jul 2014The Lotus Elise has given birth to some seriously fast and varied machinery. Aside from Lotus' own models like the Exige, 2-Eleven, 340R and Europa, electric vehicles like the Tesla Roadster, not to mention the never-released Dodge Circuit and Detroit Electric SP:01, are all based on the Elise's platform. As were/are the Melkus RS 2000, the Opel Speedster/Vauxhall VX220 and the Hennessey Venom GT. But this could be the most extreme use of the lightweight chassis yet.
This Series 1 Elise has been built by one performance-obsessed Brit with a single purpose: to compete in the UK's Time Attack championship. For those unfamiliar, Time Attack is something like a rally or a hillclimb event, only it takes place on a racing circuit. Each vehicle goes out on the track by itself and sets the best time it can, without needing to worry about other competitors until the finish line is crossed and it's the next racer's turn. That's what drove Lee to modify his Lotus so thoroughly, with more wings, diffusers, flaps and carbon fiber than a Boeing factory. Check it out in the video below.
Lotus Evora 400 arrives in December for $89,900
Mon, May 18 2015It's been three months to the day since Lotus revealed the new Evora 400. And if you've spent the intervening time pining and wondering just how much you'd need to set aside to put one in your driveway, you need wonder no longer. The British sports car manufacturer has just released pricing for the new-and-improved Evora 400, which will retail at Lotus showrooms in America for $89,900. Now that's a fair bit more than it was charging just last year for an Evora ($68,400) or the Evora S ($78,480), but for all that extra scratch, you get a lot more. The 400-horsepower model packs 55 more horses than the Evora S, weighs almost 50 pounds less, features a new diff, carbon-ceramic brakes, bodywork and interior, and benefits from returned electronics, suspension, gearbox, and more. (Buyers will also be able to opt for an automatic transmission, upgraded interior trim, appearance package, forged alloys and painted calipers, all at additional cost.) The result of all those upgrades – costly as they are – is a 0-60 time of just 4.1 seconds, a top speed of 186 miles per hour and a lap time around the company's test track at Hethel clocked at 1:32 – a full six seconds faster than the existing Evora S. If that sound enticing, North American deliveries are set to commence in December. For this price the car benefits from a high level of standard specification including 370 mm composite two piece brake discs from AP Racing, a Limited Slip Differential, automatic air-conditioning and infotainment system including satellite navigation. In addition to this, the options list includes automatic transmission at GBP2,000, Alcantara or Leather trim upgrades at GBP2,500 and metallic paint at GBP900.
Lotus Elise Sprint adds lightness to lightness
Fri, Mar 17 2017Lotus announced the introduction of a new Elise trim level that exemplifies founder Colin Chapman's famous phrase of "simplify and add lightness." The new Elise Sprint combines the weight savings of the current standard Elise, along with a number of Sprint-exclusive parts for what Lotus claims is the model's most significant weight loss yet of about 90 pounds over the old model, bringing the car's dry weight (not curb weight) to 1,759 pounds. The exclusive Sprint parts account for about 57 pounds of that loss. They include a lithium-ion battery, forged wheels, polycarbonate rear window, and carbon fiber for the seats, roll bar cover, engine cover, and access panel. Interestingly, the biggest savings come from the lithium-ion battery, which is roughly 20 pounds lighter than the normal battery. Lotus also includes the optional two-piece brake rotors and carbon fiber door sills to reach the 90 pound total. This all translates to slightly quicker 0-60 mph times for Elise Sprint models over their Sport counterparts. Both the 1.6-liter 134-horsepower Sprint and 1.8-liter 217-horsepower Sprint 220 models complete the run to 60 mph a tenth of a second quicker than the equivalent Sport versions, with times of 5.9 and 4.1 seconds respectively. The weight loss also results in a price gain. For either Sprint model, you'll end up paying an extra GBP5,000, which is a bit over $6,100 at current exchange rates. Of course, the Elise isn't available in the US anyway, so it's a moot point. Related Video:
