Lotus Esprit, One Of Nicest Around !!! on 2040-cars
Palmdale, California, United States
Hello:
I am selling my 1997 Lotus V8 twin turbo supercar. My Esprit is without a doubt one of the most immaculate V8 examples around, especially for the model year. Cosmetics are superb, most people think it is a new car. Mechanics are in great shape, have extensive service records, all owners have been beyond meticulous and this Esprit has definitely been maintained to the highest standards. Last owner took immaculate care and spared no expense, he lived in San Diego, CA and kept it for 7 years. I purchased car in August 2011, would keep it for years but other priorities take precedence. Has only been serviced at Symbolic Motors, Viking Motors and Lotus by Claudius since in California. The highlights are as follows: 1. Schedule C service, new Gates blue HD belts and pulleys, about 4 mos and 1000 miles ago. 2. Royal Purple synthetic oil change, same day as installation of belts etc. Old oil was as clean as day it was changed and engine did not use a drop. 3. New low idle control module. 4. New O2 sensors, just passed California smog test with flying colors, emission readings were very low. 5. Clutch and second gear were replaced about 9.2K miles ago. I have about the nicest Renault gearbox around. Shifting is precise, syncros are great, reverse is solid with no issues. 6. Alternator was replaced upon delivery to me from Symbolic motors. New Bosch battery with lifetime warranty 7. Currently has Lotus Factory high output ECU installed (have receipt for $ 2500) and also have "Race ECU" which might go along with purchase. 8. Lotus by Claudius "cat back custom exhaust", sounds much better than stock but does not affect smog equipment in any way. 9. Blow off valves, Labor alone was $ 1100 by Lotus by Claudius 10. Michelin Pilot tires are: front 60% but older and compound is hard, best to be replaced ($ 450 for set). Rear tires are 70 % and in great shape. Rotors are in very good condition, Newer pads and complete suspension was recently checked and nothing out of ordinary wear and tear was found 11. Alpine CD deck, IPOD connector, remote, with upgraded speakers and subwoofer in passenger floorboard, professionally installed. System sounds fantastic 12. Momo red insert steering wheel installed and factory airbag wheel included 13. Upgraded when car was new OZ Wheels Futura rims 14. Have all books, keys, toolkit, expensive hard copy of Factory service manual, Lotus OEM red wind deflector. 15. No codes, No check engine light, Lotus by Claudius tested the on board computer system with their Lotus handheld module and there are no issues of any kind. Lastly, I am extremely picky when it comes to cosmetics on a car, I rate the interior a strong 9.5 (only flaw is one minor scuff on driver side seating bolster, easy fix) and exterior a strong 9.4 (few tiny rock chips( about 6 total) on front end which are very small and touched up, cannot prevent this from happening) .Original Red paint looks like a 2012 with extreme gloss, no clearcoat issues,no scratches etc. Clean Carfax and Autocheck, I feel very confident if a potential buyer viewed my car in person would be more than pleased with overall condition. In closing if you factor in all the recent preventive maintenance, newer clutch and 2nd gear, very sound mechanics and ultra clean cosmetics this is just a fantastic turn key example and a extremely well priced Esprit !!! If you have any questions please contact me and I will be more than pleased to answer all inquiries. Thanks |

1991 Lotus Elan | eBay Find of the Day
Fri, Mar 1 2019Lotus has always been a company that goes its own way, and the 1991 Elan you see above is quite possibly the strangest vehicle that the British automaker has ever designed and built. It's powered by a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that sends 162 horsepower to the front wheels through a 5-speed manual gearbox. This generation of the Elan, which was produced from 1989-1995, remains to this day the only front-wheel-drive vehicle that Lotus has ever sold. And it wasn't very popular, with only 3,855 sold worldwide and less than 600 imported to the United States. That makes it a very rare car indeed. Lotus promotional materials claimed there were "definite advantages in traction and controllability," and added that "drawbacks such as torque steer, bump steer and steering kickback were not insurmountable." Road tests of the front-drive Elan almost universally praised the vehicle's excellent handling performance. The car you see here, sold by Gateway Classic Cars of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, looks to be in pretty good overall condition. The mileage is on the high side at nearly 111,000, but it has new paint, a new convertible top, and a refurbished interior. The asking price stands at $16,995, which makes it one of the least expensive vehicles to wear a Lotus badge that you can park in your garage and enjoy.
Lotus Emira V6 First Edition Road Test: The most fun for $100,000
Thu, Dec 21 2023You really couldn’t script it more perfectly. The Lotus Emira is a dream sports car. ItÂ’s good that we all recognize that here and now, as far too often in the super- and sports car world, the market doesnÂ’t realize what an astounding thing it has until sales have gone cold, and the manufacturer kills it off. Cough, Acura NSX. In a way, the Emira is a love letter to everything enthusiasts desire about driving. Lotus is in a state of transition – the EVs are coming! The whole automotive industry is changing, and cars like the Emira are the ones weÂ’ll point to as high-water marks for this era. Not because it has a 0-60 mph time that can embarrass competitors. Not because it pioneers any particular technology in general. Truthfully, itÂ’s not remarkably pushing any boundaries on paper, but IÂ’d argue, who cares? It has an aged 3.5-liter supercharged V6 borrowed from Toyota that makes a fine – but not eyebrow-raising – 400 horsepower and 320 pound-feet of torque. ThatÂ’s actually less horsepower than Evora variants like the GT and Sport 410 made, which is the opposite direction sports cars typically go in for a new generation. It has hydraulic steering, and there isnÂ’t a single driver assistance nag in sight (donÂ’t worry, it still has cruise control). You pick your suspension setting from the factory: Tour or Sport. It does have a few drive modes, but they donÂ’t adjust the suspension or steering. An automatic transmission is available, but please skip that to enjoy one of the best-shifting gearboxes in the world. And oh yes, you can watch the exposed linkage work its mechanical joy. Same goes for the visible throttle actuator that can be seen in the rearview mirror through the glass separating driver from engine. Yeah, Lotus gets us. If youÂ’re salivating and frothing at the mouth by now, then youÂ’re just the sort of person Lotus has in mind for the Emira. Of course, the catch with anything wearing a Lotus badge in the past was the uncertainty around buying a car from a low-production British outfit and the accompanying lack of modern amenities. Even though the Evora was a step toward Porsche in so many ways, it still felt and acted like a classy kit car with its Alpine head unit, borrowed parts and general lack of polish. The last Evora GT test car we had leaked from both A-pillars with the windows up while driving in a rainstorm. Would a factory-fresh 718 Cayman ever do such a thing? I would think not.
This 450-hp electric Lotus Evora is powered by Tesla and Chevrolet
Tue, May 9 2017When someone mentions an electric Lotus, the first thing that comes to mind is the Tesla Roadster, the California-based automaker's first vehicle. That car started life as an Elise before being heavily massaged and adapted by Tesla's engineers. In a similar spirit, the people at Onpoint Dyno are close to finishing Blue Lightning, a track-ready all-electric Lotus Evora. Blue Lightning uses a Tesla drive unit and a Chevrolet Volt battery pack, both mounted in the middle in place of the Evora's 3.5-liter Toyota V6. It's putting down about 450 horsepower at the wheels. The car was built for time attack sessions, so power is fed through custom forged wheels and super sticky Pirelli PZero Trofeo R tires, the same ones found on the last Chevrolet Camaro Z/28. There is a custom digital instrument cluster in place of the Lotus gauges. There's also a regen paddle on the left side of the steering wheel. With a full charge, Blue Lighting should go about 120 miles. While the car runs under its own power, it's only about 90 percent complete. It has no power steering, no firewall in between the seats and the motor and battery pack, no A/C, and a large hole where the shift lever used to be. Other final touches include fine-tuning the brakes and suspension. There is also a custom rear bumper coming that should make it look more like the new Lotus Evora 400. Onpoint Dyno expects the car to hit the track in the next month or so. Related Video:
