1998 LOTUS ESPRIT TWIN TURBO Built January of 1998, this is the V8 twin turbo model and what a great car. It was delivered new in Northern California by the Lotus dealer of Los Gatos to it's first owner, it has had one other owner since in Reno Nevada.

If you are reading this you probably know already about the Esprit and the great heritage of Lotus.
The founder of the company, Colin Chapman was an automotive genius, everything followed motor racing, his cars set the pace in Sports Car racing with the Eleven, 13 17 and the best of all the 23.  In F1Lotus really came to the fore in the 1960 with a great win by the brilliant Sir Stirling Moss at Monaco, follow that with Jim Clark's 1963 World Championship, Graham Hill's title in 68 and then in 1970 with the arrival of the brilliant Lotus 72  Jochen Rindt won the British, French and German Grand Prix one after another to clinch the world championship-a foretaste of things to come.  So successful was tChapman's design for the 72 that it just improved and improved, Emerson Fittipaldi became F1's youngest champion in 1972 and it continued to win in one form or another for years.

Lotus's drivers list reads like a who's who of motor racing, Ronnie Peterson, Mario Andretti, Nigel Mansell, my son's hero Ayrton Senna, right throgh to today with the great Kimi Raikonen (leave me alone, I now what I'm doing) and the ever improving Grossjean (Yeah I'm an F1 fan!).
Chapmans famous" throwing of his hat into the air" eveytime his drivers crossed the finish line in first place I have carried on, my 13 year old son races 125cc Rotax GoKarts and I'm always at the finish line ready to throw my hat in the air when he wins! ("Horatio Fitz-Simon Racing" look him up on Facebook)......But back to the car I'm trying to sell..........................

The Esprit was conceived in the 70's, it was a stunning car at its launch and its fabulous looks continue to draw attention to this day. The first cars were powered by a Ford four cylinder and the bodies were made of fiberglass, something Lotus excelled at, the 1960's Elite was, I believe the first true monocoque fibreglass car.  The Esprit went through many changes and improvements over the years, but by 1998 the cars were powered by a proper V8 and exhaust gas was used to propel the mixture under high pressure into the motor with aid of twin turbochargers. Bodies were now made from a Kevlar/GRP mix, a vast improvement over the earlier models, this made them much stronger and the panels more stable. The interiors of the late cars are the best trimmed leather I've seen, there's dead cow from the front screen all the way to the surround of the rear window.

This Lotus, resplendent in Silver exterior with full black leather piped in red has been babied its entire 15 years of life, it appears to have never seen the rain,  take off the wheels and you can see the suspension still wears its zinc plating on the wishbones, the springs have the white paint on the black coil.
The exterior is super nice, there are some stone chips on the nose and front hood, but the paint is shiny and in super-nice condition. The right wheels have some small curb rash but confined only to the outer edge of the beads, the left wheels are perfect. The interior is absolutely lovely and still smells like a new pair of Gucci loafers, obviously the owners were non smokers. The engine is super clean and has no oil leaks, it starts easily, makes no smoke (what do you expect from an eleven thousand mile car) gears engage easily and it shifts up and down the pattern as you'd expect, when the Turbos kick in you get a nice kick in the back and the car leaps forward.
The toolkit is unused, the spare has never been on the ground and the roof spoiler is wrapped in a towel in the trunk for when you take the center panel off. I have both keys and the owners manual, plus a bunch of receipts for oil changes, though none for a belt change.
I would welcome any reasonable inspection, the Lotus is available for viewing in Pleasanton, California, just call me 925 789 9825 to arrange.
Come on, seriously, where else can you get a 170mph supercar for less than thirty grand.....it's champagne motoring for beer money!

And here's the usual stuff....This is not a computer game, please bid to buy, your bid is a binding contract, car is sold as is where is, no warranties implied or otherwise, all inspections must be made before auctions end, I am happy to help with shipping in the US or overseas. I am a licensed California car dealer and if you are in the state of California I must collect sales tax, that even applies of you want to come and collect it yourself..if you have any questions the number is 925 789 9825, thanks for looking!

Lotus could build production versions of Renault Alpine, Infiniti Emerg-E

Tue, 14 Aug 2012

As with one of those blockbuster three-team NBA trades that actually improves the fortunes of every team involved, a report in Autocar indicates that Renault, Infiniti and Lotus are in talks that could benefit both manufacturers and enthusiasts. Renault is considering a production version of the devil-in-blue Alpine A110-50 concept but has said that it "probably needs more than the Renault-Nissan Alliance on its own." Enter Lotus, whose Evora platform could supply the running bits for the mid-engined Alpine revival.
That same Evora platform, in range-extended 414E concept form, is the basis for the Infiniti Emerg-E concept. Even though a decision hasn't been made on the Emerg-E's production, it is still being developed and the company has admitted that it "could be built in Britain." For its part, Lotus has said that it's ahead of schedule on the Evora 414E, with its 408 horsepower, 738 pound-feet of torque and 30-mile electric range. Development funds from both Renault and Infiniti could help make all three cars a closer possibility.

Lotus Eletre configurator welcomes virtual tire kickers

Sun, Apr 17 2022

The Lotus Eletre configurator is ready to be toyed with. There aren't that many customization options to play with, but the total experience is quite fun. The exterior palette consists of seven colors. The odd bit is that, try what browser we may, we couldn't get the names of those seven colors to appear anywhere. The menu looks like black, green, red, yellow, and three shades of silver, but clicking the latter three reveals what looks like a metallic silver, a flat gray, and a rose-tinted-something. Same with the interior, which comes in green, black, white, or beige. All but black result in a two-tone cabin. Things are much easier when it comes to wheels. The floral petal rims either come in all black or black with polished accents, the center caps are either Lotus yellow or black, and the calipers are either yellow, red, green, black, or charcoal.  For those of you unsure about the Eletre's looks, the well stocked Animations, Beautyshots, and Environments sections could get you on board with the styling — it did for us; a red Eletre under a cosmopolitan setting spoke to us in a way the yellow debut model did not. A couple of notes, though. Choose your colors in one of the Environments; the ambient lighting in the Beautyshots changes the vehicle lighting like in real life, turning the bright yellow calipers into a dusty gray in one instance, for example. The animations that show off features like the aero shutters in the grille and the active rear spoiler need a couple of clicks to perform. And again, just like in real life, the Eletre only does what you tell it; if you leave the hatch up in the Boot animation then click the Spoiler or Front Left Door, the boot stays up. Click to a city environment with the driver's door and hatch open and you'll be crystal clear as to what the Eletre looks at the end of a shopping run, a feature we've never seen in a configurator before. You have your mission and your cautions, now go play. Related video: This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Lotus chief promises upcoming SUV will be true to brand

Tue, Jul 7 2015

Lotus isn't the first sports car manufacturer getting into the crossover game. It's just the latest, and perhaps most surprising. That's because the British automaker made its name by keeping things as light as possible, and SUVs are anything but. Still, the company's chief executive is adamant that the crossover will be very light... and very Lotus. Speaking with TopGear.com, Lotus CEO Jean-Marc Gales asserted, "If Colin Chapman was alive I believe he would have done" a crossover. That's a pretty bold claim made in the name of the man known for his featherweight sports and racing cars, but Gales may not just be blowing hot air. "It will be the size of a Porsche Macan but only 1600kg, and will be the most agile and fastest of that class on a track," Gales told TG. "It's logical for us to make one in the Macan segment - the rest are all two tons, even a BMW X3. They take a normal car platform with big tires and brakes and transmission. We will use a four-cylinder engine." Keeping it light will be a vital part of the equation for Lotus, but it won't be all. It'll also have to bring up the quality, because quirks that owners might forgive in a sports car might not be tolerated to the same extent in a more mainstream product. Fortunately, Gales has been working on that ever since he took charge of the company just last year. He'll have that much more time to get it right by the time the crossover hits the Chinese market in 2019 or 2020. The vehicle is being designed principally for that market, and will be built locally. The design and engineering work is being carried out, however, at the company's headquarters in Hethel, England. Two designs are reportedly being considered, each with signature Lotus design traits to convey the image of light weight, with a profile reminiscent of the Elite four-seater from the 1970s. If the model proves a success in China, it could make its way back to the UK and Europe, though North American availability remains a question mark, and Lotus spokespeople have been cagey at best about plans to expand their US offerings. Gales also told TG that the crossover will end up only helping the company's sports car offerings, not hurting them. Increasing its quality will be one part, but developing more robust components (like air conditioning systems) will be another. At very least, it will help Lotus stay profitable and fund future sports car projects that may not be possible based on their own revenues alone.
