1998 LOTUS ESPRIT TWIN TURBO Built January of 1998, this is the V8 twin turbo model and what a great car. It was delivered new in Northern California by the Lotus dealer of Los Gatos to it's first owner, it has had one other owner since in Reno Nevada.

If you are reading this you probably know already about the Esprit and the great heritage of Lotus.
The founder of the company, Colin Chapman was an automotive genius, everything followed motor racing, his cars set the pace in Sports Car racing with the Eleven, 13 17 and the best of all the 23.  In F1Lotus really came to the fore in the 1960 with a great win by the brilliant Sir Stirling Moss at Monaco, follow that with Jim Clark's 1963 World Championship, Graham Hill's title in 68 and then in 1970 with the arrival of the brilliant Lotus 72  Jochen Rindt won the British, French and German Grand Prix one after another to clinch the world championship-a foretaste of things to come.  So successful was tChapman's design for the 72 that it just improved and improved, Emerson Fittipaldi became F1's youngest champion in 1972 and it continued to win in one form or another for years.

Lotus's drivers list reads like a who's who of motor racing, Ronnie Peterson, Mario Andretti, Nigel Mansell, my son's hero Ayrton Senna, right throgh to today with the great Kimi Raikonen (leave me alone, I now what I'm doing) and the ever improving Grossjean (Yeah I'm an F1 fan!).
Chapmans famous" throwing of his hat into the air" eveytime his drivers crossed the finish line in first place I have carried on, my 13 year old son races 125cc Rotax GoKarts and I'm always at the finish line ready to throw my hat in the air when he wins! ("Horatio Fitz-Simon Racing" look him up on Facebook)......But back to the car I'm trying to sell..........................

The Esprit was conceived in the 70's, it was a stunning car at its launch and its fabulous looks continue to draw attention to this day. The first cars were powered by a Ford four cylinder and the bodies were made of fiberglass, something Lotus excelled at, the 1960's Elite was, I believe the first true monocoque fibreglass car.  The Esprit went through many changes and improvements over the years, but by 1998 the cars were powered by a proper V8 and exhaust gas was used to propel the mixture under high pressure into the motor with aid of twin turbochargers. Bodies were now made from a Kevlar/GRP mix, a vast improvement over the earlier models, this made them much stronger and the panels more stable. The interiors of the late cars are the best trimmed leather I've seen, there's dead cow from the front screen all the way to the surround of the rear window.

This Lotus, resplendent in Silver exterior with full black leather piped in red has been babied its entire 15 years of life, it appears to have never seen the rain,  take off the wheels and you can see the suspension still wears its zinc plating on the wishbones, the springs have the white paint on the black coil.
The exterior is super nice, there are some stone chips on the nose and front hood, but the paint is shiny and in super-nice condition. The right wheels have some small curb rash but confined only to the outer edge of the beads, the left wheels are perfect. The interior is absolutely lovely and still smells like a new pair of Gucci loafers, obviously the owners were non smokers. The engine is super clean and has no oil leaks, it starts easily, makes no smoke (what do you expect from an eleven thousand mile car) gears engage easily and it shifts up and down the pattern as you'd expect, when the Turbos kick in you get a nice kick in the back and the car leaps forward.
The toolkit is unused, the spare has never been on the ground and the roof spoiler is wrapped in a towel in the trunk for when you take the center panel off. I have both keys and the owners manual, plus a bunch of receipts for oil changes, though none for a belt change.
I would welcome any reasonable inspection, the Lotus is available for viewing in Pleasanton, California, just call me 925 789 9825 to arrange.
Come on, seriously, where else can you get a 170mph supercar for less than thirty grand.....it's champagne motoring for beer money!

And here's the usual stuff....This is not a computer game, please bid to buy, your bid is a binding contract, car is sold as is where is, no warranties implied or otherwise, all inspections must be made before auctions end, I am happy to help with shipping in the US or overseas. I am a licensed California car dealer and if you are in the state of California I must collect sales tax, that even applies of you want to come and collect it yourself..if you have any questions the number is 925 789 9825, thanks for looking!

Race Recap: For the 2013 Monaco Grand Prix, NASCAR comes to the principality

Tue, 28 May 2013

Lots of contact, debris cautions, trips into the wall, full-course yellows and a red flag - these are the kinds of racing terms you unbox when you want to have a conversation about NASCAR... or the Formula One grand prix of Monaco. In this case we're not talking about the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte, we're talking about 78 laps in the South of France that even featured a fallen camera cable just like that stock-car race.
This year, Mercedes-AMG Petronas drivers treated their chassis' like busses instead of F1 cars, Romain Grosjean treated his Lotus like a battering ram, Sergio Perez kept sticking his McLaren's nose in places and eventually got it smacked, and maybe the size of the drivers' mirrors should be changed instead of the tires as there were almost as many firsts as there were crashes. Plenty of F1 fans wish Monaco were removed from the calendar, yet even though it doesn't specialize in traditional thrills, that doesn't mean nothing happens during the parade through - and into - the barriers.

Evora GT430 revealed, Lotus' most powerful road car ever

Thu, Jul 20 2017

A new Lotus grows in the English garden of lightness and speed. Lotus bills the Evora GT430 as the company's fastest, "most powerful and accomplished road car to date." And the stats seem to back that up. Lotus says the GT430's 0-to-60 time is a brilliant 3.7 seconds, the logical result of putting a 3.5-liter V6 supercharged and charge-cooled engine producing 430 horsepower into a car with a curb weight of 2,858 pounds (2,768 pounds exsanguinated). Lotus, in continual pursuit of its fetish for lightness, used carbon fiber (some of it exposed) and lightweight chassis innovations to knock 81 pounds off the curb weight of the already-quite-light Evora 410. Other comparison points: The 410 makes 410 horsepower, hence the name, with a 0-60 time of 3.9 seconds. The GT430 also gains torque over the 410, generating 325 pound-feet, though higher in the rev range at 4,500 rpm, to the 410's output of 310 at 3,500. The GT430 comes only with a six-speed manual (you can get an automatic in the 410 if so inclined), and its top speed is 190 miles per hour. Tack on aero, notably the large carbon wing, that generates up to 550 pounds of downforce (that's at top speed, but there's plenty far slower), and Lotus says the result is "tremendous real-world speed and handling unheard of in its class." It's the first new product announcement since news broke of Lotus' sale to China's Geely. Only 60 Evora GT430s will be built, at a base price of 112,500 pounds (VAT included) that will escalate quickly with options. That's around $125 grand, assuming you could get one here. Xcar tosses the Lotus Evora 400 around in the rain

Sat, Aug 1 2015

Lotus appears to be blooming again after a rocky period, and the company is launching the Evora 400 here in December for $89,900. Xcar just got a hold of one of these updated coupes on a rainy day to find out if it can be a Porsche competitor. With 400 horsepower, the aptly named Evora 400 tops the Porsche Cayman GT4 by 15 ponies, and with a purported sprint to 60 miles per hour in 4.1 seconds, the Lotus also nudges out the Porsche by a tenth of a second. So on paper, the two coupes are quite comparable. Of course, Xcar also digs deep into more subjective factors, like how it actually feels behind the wheel. If you think you prefer a little more wind in your hair, the company is developing an Evora 400 roadster, too. Rather than an actual droptop, the roof will reportedly consist of two, removable carbon-fiber panels. It'll arrive on these shores in the coming years as part of Lotus' re-emergence.
