1994 Lotus Esprit Turbo

I have owned this car for the past 4 summers and it has been very reliable and fun to drive.  I bought it with 24393 miles and it now has 28743 so I put about 1000 miles per summer on the car.

Runs and drives great.  Timing belt was replaced in 2005 at 21082 miles by Autoworxs in Cumming Ga.  I believe Autoworxs was run mainly by a guy named Joe Grassi who was a lotus team mechanic at some point in his career.

See other service docs in 2007 in the pictures

One of the primary fuel injectors failed in June of 2011 so at that time I installed new plugs, new MAP sensor, fuel filter, coil packs and primary fuel injectors.

Brand new VOXX Maglia wheels and Bridgestone tires in july 2013

There are a few items that need attention:

Front spoiler needs to be resprayed (see pic)  I have the factory dupont color, clear coat and spraying thinners

The coolant level sensor is broken so it occasioanlly throws a CEL

Drivers side seat bolster shows some wear

A/C does not blow very cold

Radio stopped working a couple of weeks before I put it into winter storage and it might just be the fuse I haven't checked

There are a few dings and chips around the car that you might expect for a 20 year old car

Slight gearbox oil leak from one of the half shafts where it goes into gearbox

$500 paypal deposit

I can deliver the car within 10 hours (one way) or so of Duluth MN in an enclosed trailer for $500

It's been a great car and I'm looking to move on to a 97-02 Dodge Viper, ferrari 348 or Testarossa other wise no trades

Clean and clear title and carfax

Thanks for looking

Kimi Raikkonen to miss rest of season for back surgery

Sun, 10 Nov 2013

Formula One drivers keep themselves in peak physical condition, such are the demands placed on them in order to do what they do. But otherworldly as their capabilities may be, they're still human, and that means they get injured or sick just like the rest of us.
Case in point: Kimi Raikkonen and the announcement made today by Lotus that he'll have to sit out the rest of the season in order to undergo back surgery. That means Lotus will have to find a replacement driver for the last two races in Austin and Brazil while Kimi has and recovers from the operation.
Though we wouldn't debate the legitimacy of Kimi's condition or the necessity to rectify it, the timing is sure to raise some eyebrows. Raikkonen has been at the center of a pay dispute with Lotus, and while the situation was reportedly resolved, his decision to undergo what is said to be elective surgery at this point in the season (as opposed to waiting until its end) raises some questions as to his commitment to the team he is leaving and his team's financial commitments to him in turn.

Lotus next F1 team to collapse?

Thu, Jan 1 2015

With the big post-season game of musical chairs finally over, the FIA recently released the final entry list for the 2015 Formula One World Championship. And while most of it is exactly as we've reported along the way (with Sebastian Vettel switching to Ferrari and Fernando Alonso moving to McLaren), the list does have a couple of small surprises. Reigning champ Lewis Hamilton, for example, has opted to race under his own Number 44 instead of the Number 1 to which he is entitled, but it's the asterisks that are raising some eyebrows. Both the Caterham and Marussia teams (the latter listed as Manor Grand Prix Racing Ltd, the name of the racing outfit that technically owns the entry slot) are listed as "subject to confirmation," and while Caterham (unlike the liquidating Marussia team) is still fighting to recover in time for next season, its tentative listing comes as no big surprise. What is a surprise, however, is the inclusion of the Lotus F1 Team with the same caveat, prompting speculation that the Enstone-based outfit might not make the grid next year. Those schooled in F1 history will know that the Lotus team of today shares little in common with the British sports car manufacturer and engineering consultancy of the same name, or with the historic F1 team that previously raced under that banner. It started out as Toleman (the team with which Ayrton Senna got his start) before being bought out by Benetton (where Michael Schumacher won his first two World Champion titles). It was then taken over by Renault (where Alonso won his two titles) before Genii Capital took over and fostered a relationship with Lotus that allowed it to use the name. In a final breaking of ties with Renault, the team is switching to Mercedes power for next season. The Enstone team has struggled recently, however. From the title-winning operation it once was, Lotus dropped down to eighth place in the 2014 Championship, failing to land on the podium (let alone win a race) even once this season, suffering a dozen DNFs out of nineteen grands prix. Without factory backing, the team has struggled financially as well, and without an injection of funds, it could drop off the entry list altogether.

Lotus Elise returning to US in 2020

Mon, Aug 3 2015

If you've been hoping to get your hands on a new Lotus Elise, we've got mixed news for you. The good news is that Lotus will bring the Elise back to the US market. The bad news is that it won't happen before 2020. Lotus was forced to withdraw the model (along with the Exige) from the US market in 2011 after it no longer complied with US safety regulations and its temporary exemptions expired. Lotus first launched the Elise in 1996 when the company was still owned by former Bugatti chief Romano Artioli. It rolled out the current Series 2 model in 2001, and brought it to America for the first time in 2004. The larger Evora faced similar issues, and was modified in the form of the new Evora 400 that now meets US regulations. Lotus CEO Jean-Marc Gales tells Automotive News that doing the same with the Elise would be unfeasible. "We'd need smart airbags, plus side airbags and to change the whole front crash structure. It would add 100kg," or 220 pounds, said Gales. While modifying the current Elise would be prohibitive, the next version is being designed to meet American standards. That won't happen before 2020. In the meantime, Lotus continues to sell a small number of certain variants of the Elise and Exige for use exclusively on tracks.
