1986 Lotus Esprit Turbo Hci on 2040-cars
Saint Clair, Michigan, United States
For sale: 1986 Lotus Esprit Turbo HCI. 38,619 Original Miles. This is a very presentable and great example of an S3 Esprit. It is ready for a new owner and will be greatly enjoyed by whoever gets to own this rare vehicle. Not many of these Esprit's were built, in 1986 only about 200 Esprit Turbo cars were built in the world. This is a very sought after exotic car and is becoming very hard to come by. If your looking for the exotic feel in a not so crazy price range this may be the car for you. In the past few years the market has went up incredibly on this body style Esprit. The Esprit I'm selling is in good condition for its age and its 90% original state. This Esprit is also a real HCI model car.
History on this Esprit: We are the second owners of the car. The car was purchased and owned in the Miami area of Florida by the First owner. We purchased the car from Auto Europe in 1995 which is a pretty well known Lotus and Morgan dealer in the state of Michigan. The car had around 30,000 miles when we first got the car. It was driven rarely only on nice days up until the early 2000's when the car ended up being parked after finding out it needed a fuel pump. This Esprit sat in our heated garage for about 9-10 years unfixed. We moved recently and brought the car with us. The car belonged to my father I just recently got around to putting a pump in the car within the year, and had the car completely looked over top to bottom and serviced back at Auto Europe. Car is now running better than ever. We still have no time to really enjoy the car so that's why it is being put up on the market. The car was always kept indoors, climate controlled garages. Never seen snow or salt. So here is your chance to get your hands on a very rare and desirable Lotus Esprit. Exterior: The body of this Esprit is in nice shape. Original black paint on the body. Has some clear peel on the head light buckets, mirror tops, and tops of the fenders that is barely noticeable unless looking close. Has some checks in the paint on the roof. Minor scratches and chips. I would like to be honest with the buyer so you know exactly what your buying that's why I will be including a link to Photobucket with many High resolution photos. Paint shines beautiful and you can see yourself clearly in the paint while walking down the car. The whole body is intact. Emblems are all in good shape. Pin striping and stickers are in excellent shape. The glass is in very good shape. All lights are in good shape. The trim and bumpers are also all in great condition. As you know the top does remove, I do have the fiberglass piece you put on after the top is off also. Everything opens and closes as it should. Original BBS wheels are in good shape no rash but they do have some paint peel inside the spokes. Great example of an S3 Esprit in its original state. Interior: The interior of this Esprit is in good/excellent condition. The seat leather is in nice shape but does have a small 5" tear in the corner of the passenger seat. The arm rest has been recovered black and I believe should be put back to tan. The dash is in very nice condition. The top of the dash above the instrument cluster has some fade in color. The fan knob is missing and the A/C control knob is missing. Has a MOMO Indy wood grain steering wheel that is in perfect condition and a wood grain MOMO Shift knob. Rest of the interior leather and carpet are in good shape. Headliner is also in good shape and does have the factory clock that works. Everything in the interior works as it should. Mechanically: The car is in sound mechanical condition. Runs and Drives straight and tight down the road. The handling on the car is incredible. The car does not have any vibrations or shakes. The motor runs smooth and quiet. Does not burn any oil and does not leak anything. Underneath is dry and leak free. The 5 speed Maserati transmission shifts flawlessly and clutch feels great. The car makes full boost and has a ton of power and is a blast to drive. The car has many new parts. The car has had a new tune up recently plugs and wires. New battery. Starter rebuilt. Distributor was gone through and has a new pickup coil. The fuel pumps and fuel filters are new. The car stops as it should no pulsations or grinds in the brakes. Suspension wise the car rides stiff and rolls smooth down the road. The only issue is the brake light on the dash does stay on and I'm not sure why. The tires were just replaced with a factory sized tire front and rear. The headlights flip up and work as they should. I do have some receipts for the recent work done to the car. The front trunk is clean and has the factory spare tire and the jack equipment also. The engine compartment is all together and not missing anything. Engine looks clean some of the factory orange paint has peeled off the intake and valve covers but the engine is clean and leak free. The exhaust is quiet and has no leak or common manifold leaks. All the carpet in the engine compartment is intact. The engine cover is in excellent shape and latches as it should. The rear hood shocks do not work very well. The underneath of the car is clean and looks as it should. No rust or oil residue on the parts. The fiberglass covers underneath are all intact and not cracked or busted. I tried to explain this Esprit to the best of my knowledge and so you know exactly what you are getting. I will add video I uploaded to YouTube and I will include a link to Photobucket so you can view more pictures of the car. If you would like more videos I do have some I could send you. In conclusion this is one of the cheaper and best performing exotics of the era for the money. Driving one of these cars is a very unique experience and its something that I would recommend to try. These cars are small, light and quick. Surprisingly with how small the car is it is very comfortable and fells very roomy inside. This will be a bidding style auction. I will set a reserve which I think is fair. May the highest bidder get the car, good luck and happy bidding!!! Please contact me via phone if you have "0" feedback before bidding and please make sure your funds are available before purchasing the car. This will also be a cash sale or Paypal can be talked about only! Buyer is responsible for pickup/shipping of the vehicle. I will entertain offers on the car so with that being said I have the right to end the auction at anytime if the car has sold before auction close. Vehicle is sold AS IS and has no existing warranty. I will require a $500 non refundable deposit 48 hours after auction end. If you would like to contact me personally my number is 586-295-7007 my name is Anthony. I am located 50 Miles north of Detroit Michigan. HERE IS THE LINK TO MORE PICTURES: HERE IS A VIDEO OF THE CAR DRIVING: VIDEO WALK AROUND OF THE CAR: |

Lotus signs Pastor Maldonado to replace Raikkonen
Mon, 02 Dec 2013The team currently known as Lotus has had a long string of accomplished drivers behind the wheel, including world champions like Nelson Piquet, Michael Schumacher, Jenson Button, Fernando Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen. But Kimi is returning to Ferrari next season, leaving a big question mark over who would fill his seat. And now we have our answer.
Lotus has just announced that it has signed Pastor Maldonado to partner with Romain Grosjean for next season. The surprise winner of the 2012 Spanish Grand Prix has been driving for Williams for the past three seasons, signed after he won the GP2 title in 2010. Though lauded as an emerging talent, Maldonado is clearly not the accomplished champion Raikkonen is, however Lotus apparently needs the money which Maldonado brings with him in the form of sponsorship from the Venezuelan state oil company PDVSA.
Meanwhile, Romain Grosjean, also a former GP2 champion, has been with the team for some time now, starting as its test driver in 2008, promoted for one season to the race seat in 2009, and returning again in 2012. He's been the second driver at Lotus ever since, achieving career-best second-place finishes at the 2012 Canadian Grand Prix and 2013 United States Grand Prix. Whether it will be Grosjean (who gets the higher number) or Maldonado that emerges as the dominant force at Lotus remains to be seen. Scroll down for the complete press release.
How Lotus plans to expand and electrify as it enters a new age
Tue, Oct 11 2022If you’ve never driven a car made by Lotus, youÂ’re not alone — theyÂ’ve always been a small manufacturer, and even spotting one in public is a rarity — but youÂ’re missing out. Their exotic good looks are far surpassed by their dedication to connecting man to machine to pavement above all else. But like every other automaker these days, big changes are afoot. Yes, Lotus is going electric. But itÂ’s also going big, and in more ways than one. We recently sat down with Lotus Group VP & Managing Director Matt Windle and Chief Brand Officer James Andrew to talk about how the storied brand will pay service to its past as it aims its headlights toward the future. WeÂ’ve already seen the Lotus Evija (formerly referred to by internal codename Type 130), a low-volume, all-electric hypercar that represents the small automakerÂ’s first big step into electrification. With 1,500 kilowatts (about 2,000 horsepower) coming from four electric motors, you can forget 0-60; itÂ’ll do 0-186 miles per hour in 9.1 seconds. It starts at over $2 million, and production will be capped at 130 units. Flashy numbers to make a big splash, before going bigger in both size and production volume. Next will come the Lotus Eletre (formerly Type 132), an electric SUV that represents the (currently) small automakerÂ’s desire to cater to every lifestyle rather than to be pigeonholed by purists and luddites. To reach big volumes, Lotus needs to be a truly global company, and it needs to create cars that more customers can use, and at prices they can afford. Lotus Eletre Electric SUV View 25 Photos And even though an SUV isnÂ’t what weÂ’re used to seeing from Lotus, perhaps we shouldnÂ’t be surprised — and not just because seemingly every other exclusive, top-shelf brand is now offering an SUV or will be soon. James Andrew reminded us that the appreciation has always been there, and that Lotus founder Colin Chapman had two parking spots at the office: one for his Lotus Esprit, and the other for a Range Rover heÂ’d often drive to work. DonÂ’t expect a rock-crawling luxury off-roader to wear the Lotus badge, though. The gents assured us that the brandÂ’s focus remains on performance. And a crucial part of that performance is in driving dynamics that connect the driver to the car.
Lotus proves it's alive and well by releasing its most powerful road-going car
Fri, Jul 26 2019The future hasn't always looked bright for Lotus, but the British company is skating on much thicker ice under Geely ownership now than it was in the middle of the 2010s. It continues to claw back from the brink by releasing a GT-badged evolution of the Evora that delivers a meaner punch than its predecessors, and comes with a list of options that nearly rivals Porsche's. The GT replaces the Sport 410 and the 400 variants of the Evora. Presented as the most powerful road-going Lotus ever sold in the United States, it's powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine supercharged to 416 horsepower at 7,000 rpm and 317 pound-feet of torque at 3,500 rpm. Those figures allow it to hit 60 mph from a stop in a brisk 3.8 seconds, and reach a 188-mph top speed. It's still a little bit slower than the Evora GT430 released in 2017, but Lotus kept that model away from American roads. The Evora GT comes standard with a six-speed manual transmission. Enthusiasts not interested in using a clutch can select an automatic gearbox that they can leave in drive or shift manually with aluminum paddles mounted on the steering wheel. Torque goes up to 332 pound-feet when the six shifts through the optional automatic, but the Evora GT posts the same performance figures regardless of how many pedals are in its footwell. Lotus makes the Evora GT using carbon fiber to keep weight in check. Buyers can honor company founder Colin Chapman by adding lightness if they're willing to add dollars, too. Priced at $10,000, the Carbon Pack includes a roof panel, a tailgate, a front access panel, and a diffuser all made with carbon fiber. Ticking that box shaves 50 pounds; put another way, Lotus charges $200 per pound. Selecting the $8,000 titanium exhaust removes another 22 pounds. The Evora GT tips the scale at 3,104 pounds in its lightest configuration, but getting there requires paying for a Volkswagen Golf's worth of options. At least downforce comes standard, and the GT has more of it than its predecessors. The new GT designation doesn't bring significant exterior styling changes. It's the same story inside, where Lotus continues to offer the model as a strict two-seater, or with a pair of rear seats big enough for very, very small occupants. Every GT comes standard with a 7-inch touchscreen compatible with both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. On sale now, the 2020 Lotus Evora GT starts at $96,950. Deliveries will begin by the end of 2019.
