2008 Lotus Elise
"One Elite Elise!"Call Jeff at 616-881-2429 With much anticipation, the Lotus Elise, after clearing many federal regulation obstacles, was finally introduced to the US market. The proven concept that less weight equals more performance was the base line design of the Elise. These cars were all hand assembled and integrated some of the most advance lightweight technology including the Lotus designed epoxy bonded aluminum light weight chassis, light weight steel rear sub-frame and a RTM composite body. All said and done, these cars moved a mere 10 pounds for every horse power provided by a stout Toyota 1.8 liter inline 4 cylinder engine producing 190 hp. Further maximization of horsepower is assisted by Four-wheel independent suspension, Bilstein mono-tube gas dampers, Eibach coaxial coil springs and front anti-sway bar, and 6-speed synchromesh gearbox. The brakes consist of 4-wheel ventilated cross drilled brakes with squeezed by Lotus/AP Racing and Brembo Calipers. These cars are weightless and agile, still producing impressive 0-60 times of 5.1 seconds and setting seemingly effortless record speeds in the 600-ft slalom. In 2008, Lotus built 50 "California" optioned cars for the US market, 25 in Ardent Red, and 25 in Saffron Yellow. The one owner, 2008 Lotus Elise California Saffron Yellow offered here remains outstanding and virtually new as it has driven and cared for just 4705 miles since new and never tracked. The "California" optioned cars were more highly optioned to appeal to "the lifestyle market" and also to showcase Lotus' aptitude for customization. While known for being spartanly optioned vehicles, the "California" equipped vehicles included an upgraded grill, body colored side air inlets, upgraded wheels, light two-tone leather interior, removable colored hard top, Alpine sound system and a larger rear spoiler all for just $5500.00 dollars on top of its normal MSRP. The car comes complete with original window sticker, driver handbook, tool kit, both hard and soft tops, all "California" options as mentioned, "Star Shield" and a perfect CARFAX. With outstanding agility, feel and feedback, The Lotus Elise has the uncanny ability to make the car become a direct extension of the driver who pilots it. For this reason these cars hold value and remain on the bucket list of driver enthusiasts worldwide. Limited edition cars such as the "California" will always be in demand is an opportunity when presented for acquisition. Recap: 2013 Australian Formula One Grand Prix is all about the rubber [w/spoilers]
Sun, 17 Mar 2013A pre-season full of talking points was swapped for a brand-new set of talking points after the running of the opening grand prix of the 2013 Formula One season. The consistency of the regulations from last year to this year and the triplicate dominance of Infiniti Red Bull Racing meant that no one would have been that surprised if the relative order of things remained the same. But teams found so many ways to switch things up that, in typical pre-season fashion, no one was ready to make any bets on in-season performance, and a couple of surprising players suffered the ignominy of getting it really wrong: McLaren knew it was in trouble from the very first test, while Williams drivers applauded their car as the best in years, only to have Pastor Maldonado call it "undriveable" on the very first day of practice in Melbourne.
And then there were those Pirellis, the Italian company talking up the fact that its super soft tires would only go off so quickly that it would force teams to pit at least twice during the race.
Even then, no one could have seen the first round of pit stops beginning on Lap 5.
Lotus proves it's alive and well by releasing its most powerful road-going car
Fri, Jul 26 2019The future hasn't always looked bright for Lotus, but the British company is skating on much thicker ice under Geely ownership now than it was in the middle of the 2010s. It continues to claw back from the brink by releasing a GT-badged evolution of the Evora that delivers a meaner punch than its predecessors, and comes with a list of options that nearly rivals Porsche's. The GT replaces the Sport 410 and the 400 variants of the Evora. Presented as the most powerful road-going Lotus ever sold in the United States, it's powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine supercharged to 416 horsepower at 7,000 rpm and 317 pound-feet of torque at 3,500 rpm. Those figures allow it to hit 60 mph from a stop in a brisk 3.8 seconds, and reach a 188-mph top speed. It's still a little bit slower than the Evora GT430 released in 2017, but Lotus kept that model away from American roads. The Evora GT comes standard with a six-speed manual transmission. Enthusiasts not interested in using a clutch can select an automatic gearbox that they can leave in drive or shift manually with aluminum paddles mounted on the steering wheel. Torque goes up to 332 pound-feet when the six shifts through the optional automatic, but the Evora GT posts the same performance figures regardless of how many pedals are in its footwell. Lotus makes the Evora GT using carbon fiber to keep weight in check. Buyers can honor company founder Colin Chapman by adding lightness if they're willing to add dollars, too. Priced at $10,000, the Carbon Pack includes a roof panel, a tailgate, a front access panel, and a diffuser all made with carbon fiber. Ticking that box shaves 50 pounds; put another way, Lotus charges $200 per pound. Selecting the $8,000 titanium exhaust removes another 22 pounds. The Evora GT tips the scale at 3,104 pounds in its lightest configuration, but getting there requires paying for a Volkswagen Golf's worth of options. At least downforce comes standard, and the GT has more of it than its predecessors. The new GT designation doesn't bring significant exterior styling changes. It's the same story inside, where Lotus continues to offer the model as a strict two-seater, or with a pair of rear seats big enough for very, very small occupants. Every GT comes standard with a 7-inch touchscreen compatible with both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. On sale now, the 2020 Lotus Evora GT starts at $96,950. Deliveries will begin by the end of 2019.
Alpine joins forces with Lotus to develop an electric sports car
Thu, Jan 14 2021Renault's performance-rooted Alpine division linked arms with Caterham to develop the current-generation A110, but it brought the project in-house after the partnership collapsed. It's again looking across the English Channel to design the model's replacement. It teamed up with Lotus to examine ways to create a nimble electric sports car. Both companies issued a statement to cautiously explain the project remains at the embryonic stage. Development work hasn't started yet. Executives simply agreed to conduct a comprehensive feasibility study for the joint engineering, design, and development of a battery-powered model. On the French side, the car (assuming it's approved) will replace the A110. In the United Kingdom, it's unclear whether the Lotus-badged variant will take the torch from an existing model (like the Elise), or if it will be positioned as a standalone car. While it sounds like nothing is set in stone yet, the match makes sense. Alpine and Lotus are both niche players in the automotive industry, though they're part of much larger groups (Geely owns Lotus). And they both made a name for themselves by building light sports cars. Neither has ever offered a rival to the Lamborghini Aventador, for example. Working together will allow them to find a common solution to the problem of offsetting the mass of an electric powertrain. Overlapping is certainly possible, but Alpine and Lotus can stay in opposite corners of the same room if they put their respective DNAs front and center. Their jointly-developed electric sports car will need to be small, nimble, and quick. From there, Lotus could shape its version as a convertible (or at least with removable roof panels) while Alpine could turn its model into a coupe, the body style it's most closely associated with. Design will be a major differentiating factor, too. Lotus previously hinted its future cars will borrow styling cues from the Evija. We don't know exactly where Alpine is headed, but nothing suggests its future cars will also look like the Evija. Alpine's reshuffling won't end there. Renault announced that the firm will gain responsibility for Renault Sport and Renault Sport Racing in the coming years, and that it will become 100% electric. It will introduce at least three new models during the first half of the 2020s: a car that looks like a city-friendly hatchback, its first crossover, inevitably, and the aforementioned A110 replacement.
