Features, Condition and History

This is a one of a kind vehicle with extremely low mileage and in fantastic condition for its age.  The previous owner made many improvements and customizations to this vehicle.  Check out all the pictures to see these custom features:
  • GPS built into the dashboard
  • Aftermarket digital stereo system
  • Custom interior lighting
  • XM radio receiver
  • Custom cupholder console
  • Keyless entry
Suffice it to say this is a very unique ride.  You will not find another classic Town Car with this set of features and in such good condition.  This car turns heads!  It's also a really smooth ride.  They don't make them like this any more.  The car still has great power and runs and drives very well.  The tires have a ton of tread left (see pictures).

This car has been used as a daily driver for the past 4 years by the current owner.  The car has been maintained meticulously with regular service and repairs made as needed.  Some of the items that have been replaced during that time:
  • Alternator
  • Master cylinder
  • Brake booster
  • Front brake hoses
  • Front brake calipers
  • Battery
  • Fuel pump
Like any car this age it is not perfect and is being sold as is.  There are only a few minor issues, however.
  • Leak in muffler pipe - may be possible to weld a patch in place
  • Some small areas of rust (see pictures) (paint is 99% good, though)
  • Some wear and cosmetic age spots in rubber bumpers and the vinyl roof cover
  • A few cracks in the vinyl
  • There is an intermittent "shudder" when accelerating.  The local Ford dealership couldn't identify the problem
  • Some damage and sagging to the insulation/cover under the dashboard (above where your feet would go)
  • The emergency brake release assembly recently broke.  The handle is still with the car and might be usable in a repair.  The emergency brake still works, it's just that releasing it is tricky without the handle attached.

2015 Lincoln MKC

Mon, 09 Jun 2014

Back in 2012, Lincoln claimed its comeback bid was finally underway with the new-for-2013 MKZ. But don't you believe them - the renaissance won't actually begin in earnest until the shapely compact crossover seen here reaches showrooms in big numbers. That's because while the four-door MKZ was indeed a proper step toward rebirth, the 2015 MKC is the first wholly conceived vehicle under Lincoln as a standalone brand, a move first announced back in 2012.
That's an important distinction, because Lincoln's newfound emancipation from Ford's design and development processes has given the struggling marque both the corporate wherewithal and the will to develop a more fully formed product. The four-wheeled result seen here is a surprisingly cohesive luxury CUV, one with significantly more aesthetic and dynamic separation from its Ford Escape sibling than the MKZ and its Fusion counterpart. Said another way, after flogging Lincoln's latest for hundreds of miles over canyon roads outside of Santa Barbara, we've come to understand that this is far from a re-grilled Dearborn special with luxury tinsel - it's a bona fide standalone product that readily displays the sort of clear differentiation seen in platform cousins like the Audi Q5 and the Volkswagen Tiguan. It's the real deal.

NHTSA upgrades Ford floor mat unintended acceleration probe

Mon, 17 Dec 2012

According to a Bloomberg report, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has upgraded an investigation into complaints of unintended acceleration lodged against Ford vehicles. The investigation began in June of 2010 when just three complaints had been received and it only concerned the Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan, but this was at a time when the phrase "unintended acceleration" made grown men go pale. With 49 additional complaints received since then, the investigation has been reclassified as an engineering analysis - the last phase before a recall - and it has been expanded to include the Lincoln MKZ, making for a total of "around 480,000" units affected between the three sedans from the 2008 to 2010 model years.
The ostensible cause is that floor mats are trapping the accelerator pedal, but according to a Ford statement at the time, the entrapment is due to owners placing the optional all-weather floor mats, or aftermarket floor mats, on top of the car's standard floor mats. NHTSA has backed up that assessment, pinning the blame on "unsecured or double stacked floor mats."
On the face of it, it would appear that NHTSA has upgraded the status not because of Ford's error, but owner error, and Ford has stated publicly that it is "disappointed" in NHTSA's move. On top of NHTSA still being skittish after that other unintended acceleration debacle, it could be seen to be taking its time investigating all of the variables: it's reported that Ford changed its accelerator pedal design in 2010, a "heel blocker" in the floorpan has been considered a potential culprit in how the floor mats could be trapping the pedal, some drivers have said the floor mats weren't anywhere near the pedal, and according to a report in the LA Times, in "a letter sent by Ford to NHTSA in August 2010, the automaker said it found three injuries and one fatality that 'may have resulted from the alleged defect.'"

Lincoln says MKZ supply crisis over

Mon, 25 Mar 2013

After an excessive number of recalls on the 2013 Escape and Fusion, we can't really fault Ford for being a little extra cautious with the launch of the 2013 Lincoln MKZ. Last month, we reported that dealer supply of the car was extremely limited due to more attention being paid to quality checks of cars rolling off the assembly line, which led to a 73-percent drop in MKZ sales from last year on top of a 32-year low in monthly sales for Lincoln in January.
The reason for the delay was that the sedans were being shipped from the Hermosillo, Mexico assembly plant to be inspected even closer at Ford's Flat Rock, Michigan plant before they were able to head to dealers. Things seem to be straightening out for Lincoln and the MKZ's production now, as Automotive News is reporting that supply should be up to a "normal level" by the end of this month.
