Rare 1978 Lincoln Mark V Diamond Jubilee Edition With NO RESERVE 460 V8, 74k original miles. Rare Diamond Jubilee with Diamond Blue Moondust Metallic paint and Diamond Blue Landau Half-Vinyl Roof with matching padded trunk lid and Wedgewood Blue Luxury Broadlace interior. Priced at $20,529, the Diamond Jubilee Edition Mark V's were the most luxurious and expensive to date by Lincoln in a production car. Options include silver/blue tinted glass power moonroof with sliding shade, color matched aluminum "turbine" wheels, color matched body trim, quarter windows that lower and raise before side windows, "Opera Lamps" on the side pillars accenting the oval opera window (looks great at night) and a simulated diamond chip over the letter "I" of "Diamond Jubilee" in the glass of the opera windows. Other premium options included digital "miles to empty" readout, tilt steering wheel, remote trunk release and auto lamp/auto dimming headlights. According to the production numbers, only 1511 Diamond Jubilees were built with the huge "Astro-Roof" power glass moonroof, which was the most expensive option at an additional $1,027. Of those 1511 built it's anybody's guess how many are still on the road, especially in this condition. Here's a page dedicated to the 1978 "Blue Moondust" Diamond Jubilee: http://automotivemileposts.com/mark51978diamondjubilee.html This page lists the options and corresponding pricing of the huge list of luxury features: http://automotivemileposts.com/mark51978optionalequipment.html Wikipedia page briefly detailing the history and interesting facts about the 1978 Diamond Jubilee: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lincoln_Continental_Mark_V#1978_.22Diamond_Jubilee_Edition.22 I've always wanted a Mark V Diamond Jubilee but they're generally out of my price range. I bought this one to fix up, as it's a roadworthy car and I planned on driving it as I restored it. Unfortunately, space and finances force me to let it go. It's totally complete, nothing missing and most everything works including the moonroof and the power vent windows. The a/c compressor turns on but doesn't blow cold. It starts up easy, shifts smoothly and the engine has a nice 460 V8 purr. It's developed a power steering leak, I add fluid as necessary. The tires are dry rotted but the turbine wheels are in good shape. It's straight, never hit, doors close easily and the headlight doors even stay closed when the car is parked. The directional/brake/turn signal/headlights/brights work properly, as well as the wipers and horn. Aftermarket shaft style cassette player installed, the dash was not cut and four new speakers installed. The steering wheel has developed a slight wander, I was told it needed a new "rag joint". Cosmetics: The vinyl top was replaced as well as the vinyl on the trunk. The paint is original and faded with some bubbling in spots. The paint looks OK from 20 feet but it's faded and scratched when you're up close. The interior is the car's strongest point, overall it's in nice condition. The dash display, padded dashboard, headliner and visors are in excellent condition. The Lincoln got the "Ziebart" rustproofing treatment when new. Every classic car I've had that got the Ziebart treatment has been rust free. The undercarriage is clean as seen in the pix. The bumpers have no dents or rust but are dull. A good paint job would bring her back to her glory. I'm selling the Lincoln due to financial circumstances as you can see from the lack of a reserve price. I'm a big fan of the Mark V's and the Diamond Jubilee is the finest example of this stylish, incredibly well built car. When the windows and moonroof are closed it's whisper quiet inside; many times I've looked down to see I'm doing 85-90 and had no idea I was going that fast. I reserve the right to end the auction early as the Mark V is for sale locally and I'm open to reasonable buy it now offers as well. I can assist with shipping in the USA or internationally if necessary, cost of shipping to paid by buyer. I can recommend a good door to door auto shipper if you need one. Rare classic Lincoln which will appreciate in value. Any questions feel free to email or call 914-224-3230 |

Art students explore what a Lincoln might look like in 2040
Tue, Jun 29 2021Lincoln gave students at the ArtCenter College of Design an unusual challenge. It asked them to sketch their idea of what its cars will look like in the year 2040, and it instructed them to team up with students specializing in other fields (including film and illustration) to create a short movie that depicts their concept, the environment it operates in, and the folks who drive it. Over a year in the making, the final submissions have been presented to the public. "More than just the vehicles themselves, we were looking for that great narrative development, that rich storytelling. It's so important to understand the future ecosystem in which a concept vehicle will live," explained Jordan Meadows, the global strategic design specialist for Lincoln, in a statement. Four teams of students participated in the project, which Lincoln called Quiet Flight 2040. Students received a basic set of guidelines that helped them create what the Ford-owned firm referred to as "the ultimate beautiful gliding human sanctuary," a term that's intentionally open to interpretation. Four body styles were chosen: a two-passenger car, a four-passenger vehicle, a different four-passenger model with a higher, SUV-like ride height and a six-seater. Participants created the concepts from scratch and showcased them in short films. The design studies are crammed with futuristic features, including autonomous driving systems, a technology that displays images on the dashboard, touchscreens embedded into the door windows, and a lounge-like interior that wouldn't look out of place at the Consume Electronics Show (CES). One is a crossover with a fastback-like roof line, another is a stately sedan, a third is an elegant coupe and the last is a van-like vehicle that looks like nothing Lincoln has ever built before. Nothing suggests these concepts will be built, let alone approved for production. What's certain is that, from a student's perspective, Lincoln's future looks a lot different than Polestar's. Volvo's upmarket offshoot held a similar contest in late 2020, and the finalists returned with a sci-fi blimp, an electric yacht and an autonomous pod. Lexus ES 350 vs. Lincoln MKZ
Tue, Jun 6 2017Despite a lineup of well-received crossovers on the Lexus showroom, the midsize Lexus ES 350 four-door continues to appeal to consumers. Many of those customers are older, so you won't see marketing budgets directed toward them; no one, other than the pharmaceutical companies, is spending money marketing to baby boomers. But a midsize, moderately expressive sedan with an easy buying experience and almost coddled ownership still has its fans, and the Lexus ES 350 delivers those attributes in spades. We'd like to say Lincoln's MKZ (pictured above) is hot on the Lexus' heels, but Lincoln's lineup remains a work in progress. The Fusion-based MKZ offers a nice mix of attributes, but Lincoln's dealer count has shrunk, and many Lincoln outlets are located within – or immediately adjacent to – Ford stores. If a Fusion-based Lincoln credibly aspires to Lexus-like attributes, the same won't be said for the Ford showrooms. Here are the offerings: The Lexus ES 350 team has, over the sedan's several variations, worked hard to separate the volume Lexus from Toyota's similar Camry, and in 2017 that separation might actually be quantifiable. To its credit, the ES 350 (pictured at left) comes with but one non-hybrid drivetrain, a 3.5 liter V6 connected to a six-speed automatic driving the front wheels. With it, the ES 350 delivers a motoring experience bordering on the sublime. With the exception of its now-predictable big mouth grille, the balance of the ES sheetmetal is responsibly muted, inoffensive to the eye and should wear well through the typical payment cycle. Access to its moderately upscale interior is easy, and once inside you'll find expansive room (some 100 cubic feet) for four, along with adequate space for the occasional fifth. With a curb weight of just 3,600 pounds, the V6's 268 horsepower and 248 pound-feet of torque is responsive, and that's evident in the four-door's 7-second sprint to 60. This isn't a track day or autocross weapon, but if part of your day is a stressful commute, this will make it less so. With a base – albeit well appointed – spec, the ES 350 retails for just under $40,000. We would order ours in Atomic Silver, even if "atomic" seems so last-century. If you can forget – for a minute – the Matthew McConaughey connection, know that Lincoln's MKZ is fully credible as a midsize, mid-fashion sedan. If you like your Fords with more expressive interiors and additional driving refinement, there's a lot to like in Lincoln's MKZ.
Monochromatic Package spreads to Lincoln's Corsair, Nautilus, and Aviator
Fri, Jul 10 2020Lincoln is catering to buyers seeking a mostly chrome-free SUV by making the optional Monochromatic Package available on the Corsair, the Nautilus, and the Aviator. It was inaugurated by the Navigator in 2019. Inspired by current trends in fashion and interior design, the Monochromatic Package bundles a darker grille, tinted emblems, body-colored mirrors, and darkened trim pieces all around. It also includes black 20- or 22-inch alloy wheels, depending on the model. Lincoln made no mention of modifications in the cabin. 2021 Corsair and 2021 Aviator buyers who tick the Monochromatic Package box will be asked to choose from three colors named Pristine White, Infinite Black, and Asher Gray, respectively. The Monochromatic-equipped 2020 Nautilus will exclusively be offered in Infinite Black, while the 2020 Navigator carries on with Pristine White, Ceramic Pearl, and Infinite Black as its color options when buyers add the package. Lincoln hopes expanding the Monochromatic Package's availability will allow its SUVs to keep building momentum, but pricing information hasn't been announced yet. For context, the chrome-free look costs $3,495 on the 2020 Navigator, and it's exclusively offered on the mid-range Reserve model priced at $83,665. Like parent company Ford, Lincoln is increasingly reliant on its crossovers and SUVs. It confirmed its last two sedans, the MKZ and the Continental, will retire without a replacement in sight after the 2020 model year.
