The Lincoln Mark IV, produced from 1972 – 1976, was considered a legend in its own time, handily outselling its General Motors rival, the Cadillac Eldorado.  With dozens of unique color and trim options available, those of discriminating taste could truly personalize their new Mark IV in any way they desired.

This gorgeous one-owner 1974 Lincoln Mark IV has traveled only 49,800 miles in its forty year life.  It is finished in optional Red Moondust Metallic that has a beautiful luster.  It also features coordinating Black accent pinstripes and its original Cavalry twill vinyl top, which is in excellent condition.  The exterior appearance is further enhanced by an abundance of chrome and brightwork that is in very good condition.

The interior is equally attractive and rich in appearance.  Its sumptuous leather seating areas show as new and are soft to the touch.  Similarly, its dashboard, door panels, carpeting, and headliner are virtually free of wear.  Rich wood appliques and tasteful use of chrome lend a note of distinction, and its optional AM/FM stereo with 8-track cassette will contribute to your enjoyment.

You will also appreciate this car’s long list of standard and optional comfort and convenience features, including the following:

·         Power windows

·         Power door locks

·         6-way power driver’s and passenger’s seats

·         Power trunk lid release

·         Power antenna

·         Electric rear window defroster

·         Speed control

·         Anti-theft system

·         Appearance Protection Group (including door edge guards and front and rear floor mats with carpet inserts)

·         Right-hand remote control mirror

·         Tilt steering wheel

·         AM/FM Multiplex Radio with Stereo Tape

·         Automatic temperature control

With the exception of the Cartier clock, all power options work as they should.  It should also be noted that minor imperfections in the chrome and finish do not detract from the overall appearance of this car.

Powered by a four barrel carbureted 460 CID V-8 engine mated to a three-speed SelectShift automatic transmission, this car generates an impressive 220 horsepower.  It has an unrivaled combination of power, smoothness, and silence that makes it very enjoyable to drive.  Having recently completed a 700 mile road trip from Cape Cod to Cleveland, this car performed flawlessly.

Originally sold from Clark & White Lincoln Mercury of Boston, this one owner car retains its original “Ownercard” warranty identification card, financing paperwork, vehicle inspection reports, and state registration cards.  Also included with sale is the original owner’s and stereo manuals, and the “Ford Family of Fine Music” 8-track demo cassette.  It even retains its original starting instructions sleeve on the driver’s sun visor!  The “Maintenance Folio” and key fob from the selling dealer will also be included with sale.

If a beautifully maintained and original Mark IV that is far superior to others available is what you desire, this is the car for you!

Ford recalls more than 550,000 trucks and SUVs for various safety issues

Wed, Aug 12 2020

Ford announced safety recalls for its current F-150 pickup along with several Ford and Lincoln crossovers early Wednesday. The recalls cover more than 550,000 vehicles and address various safety defects, ranging from a fire hazard to potential loss of braking power.  The most far-reaching of the recalls covers approximately 550,000 examples of the 2015-2018 Ford Edge and 2016-2018 Lincoln MKX, which may have been assembled with defective front brake jounce hoses (also commonly referred to as "flex lines"). These hoses run from fixed points on the chassis to the individual front brake calipers. Defective hoses could potentially rupture, allowing brake fluid to leak and resulting in a loss of braking function. Ford will replace the components in question with revised parts.  The next-largest recall is for roughly 3,000 2020 Lincoln Corsair crossovers. The affected models may have been assembled without proper clearance between their rear suspension springs and toe link brackets. The components could potentially make contact, wearing down the protective coating on the rear coil springs, allowing corrosion to occur over time. This corrosion could eventually lead to a failure of the spring. If this happens while the vehicle is being driven, it could result in a sudden change to the vehicle's handling characteristics, and the spring fragments could potentially cause further damage to the car or surrounding traffic.  Ford says owners will be notified that their Corsairs need to be inspected; if there is not adequate clearance between the rear suspension components, Ford's service technicians will remove material from the toe link bracket to allow for operation without contact.  The final (and by far the smallest) recall is for the 2020 F-150. Some units may have left the factory with the incorrect retention nut on the hot lead to the starter motor. Ford says it can cause increased heat generation or electrical arcing, which could potentially result in a fire. Ford says this issue is limited to just a few hundred examples sold in the United States. Dealers will inspect the vehicles and replace the nut if necessary.

Lincoln dealers to build standalone dealerships separate from Ford

Tue, Aug 14 2018

Way back in 2011, Ford Motor Credit Co. established Lincoln Automotive Financial Services as part of what Automotive News called "a campaign to set the Lincoln brand apart." Lincoln's been on a wild, public ride in the seven years since, which included a near-death experience in 2013 under former Ford CEO Alan Mulally. But Ford's luxury brand has rebounded and is ready to take another shot at setting itself apart. Automaker execs have asked dealers with twinned Ford- Lincoln dealerships in 30 major U.S. markets to build standalone stores. According to company data, the move isn't a gamble — dealers with standalone showrooms sell more vehicles. Lincoln's standalone dealerships in the 30 major U.S. markets that account for 70 percent of luxury segment sales increased 48 percent from 2014 to 2017, compared to an overall Lincoln brand sales increase of 18 percent. After a former Ford-Lincoln dealer in Minneapolis opened a devoted Lincoln store this January, sales have climbed 60 percent so far this year. Dealers in Orange County, California, and Atlanta, Georgia have seen sales double since opening exclusive Lincoln storefronts. The sales manager at the Atlanta dealer said, "Customers have pulled up and said, 'This is how it should be.'" Robert Parker, Lincoln's head of marketing, said, "Customers expect the environment to be equal to the product. They want to buy a luxury product in a luxury environment." That issue repeatedly comes up when a mass-market brand launches a luxury product; observers have lately wondered how much the issue affects sales of Hyundai's Genesis brand. Out of 845 Lincoln showrooms nationwide, there are 150 Lincoln dealers in those 30 major U.S. markets. So far, 72 dealers have made or are working to make the standalone switch on their own. Lincoln is asking the remaining 78 shops to follow suit, to agree to a new facility by July 2019 and to have the store finished by July 2021. Only the showrooms would need to be exclusive, service and other back-end departments can remain in Ford-branded complexes. Wielding the carrot, Lincoln will help dealers with relocating, and pay more for every car sold. Wielding the stick, Lincoln said that come Q2 2019, it won't let twinned dealers sell Black Label trims if they don't already. Over the next couple of years, Lincoln will complete the revamp of its lineup. Said marketing honco Parker, "The next phase of the transformation is critical.

Landau yachts: The history of Lincoln's Designer Series

Sun, Feb 6 2022

The Lincoln Designer Series was introduced in 1976, at the end of the imposing Mark IV Continental generation. Four big-name fashion designers of the era – all-American country clubber Bill Blass, psychedelic Italian pattern-maestro Emilio Pucci, venerable French jewelry-maker Cartier, and a la mode French fashionista Hubert de Givenchy – were asked to slather their elegance on LincolnÂ’s personal luxury coupe. This experiment was a wild success. According to documents uncovered in the Lincoln archives – with the incomparable guidance of official brand historian Ted Ryan – the Designer series “accounted for more than 27% of Mark IV sales” shortly after its introduction. It was such a runaway hit, that it continued on throughout the even larger Mark V generation (incidentally, the longest coupe ever produced by Ford Motor Company), and didnÂ’t really peter out on these big two-doors until the early 1990s.   But the true history of the series well predates the era of opera windows, crushed velour and wire wheel covers. “If you take a step back even further, when Ford purchased Lincoln in 1922, Edsel Ford was put in charge of the company. But more than that, he helped establish the first design studio at Ford,” said Ryan. The basic Model T didnÂ’t take much design. Lincoln was different. Edsel is famed for his quote. “Father wanted to make the most popular car, I wanted to make the best.” The specific genesis of the Designer Series, however, came along as a result of a long-term personal connection with the marqueÂ’s first chairman. “Edsel Ford had a relationship with Cartier, and correspondence going throughout the 1920s and '30s,” Ryan said. “His personal cards and stationery were always ordered from Cartier.” This enduring link wasnÂ’t formalized until the late 1960s. “I found in product development files, in 1967, that Ford had gone to Cartier for a special 1970 Cartier Continental coupe,” Ryan said. According to internal documents, this package would include unique interior leather/cloth/vinyl surfaces and trim, modified dials, and a Cartier jewelry box, as well as golden plating on the steering wheel ornament, dial face ornaments, keys, C-pillar ornaments, door monograms, and dashboard plaque. “Think of that. A car that never was, that could have been,” Ryan said, wistfully. Some Cartier magic did get glossed on Lincolns in the late 1960s.
