1972 Lincoln Mark IV

Clean sunny Southern California car. I purchased 2 years ago from the original owner I and drive it daily owner was a non-smoker, the ashtrays are only used to hold pocket change. Car has been well cared for maintained, always been garaged and spends its time driving in the tropical climate of Palm Springs. I get thumbs up, friendly comments from people and others asking to take pictures every time I drive this car. The car drives perfectly. Freeway speed of 70 or 80 mph are smooth and quiet, no shakes, no rattles, no wind. Air conditioning blows cold (I use it daily). All exterior lights work, all interior lights work including dash lamps and even all four ashtray lights. Original leather upholstery is very nice, still soft, supple and comfortable after 42 years, the vinyl roof is absolutely perfect, all glass is good with no cracks or chips, door and trunk weather strip is still soft and seals properly, chrome and bright metal still shines and shows well. With the exception of a few touchups over the years the car retains mostly original paint. It shines and shows well however there are a few small scratches here and there and slight sun fading on the upper surfaces from the California sun. Of course there are no rust issues. All 4 tires are new with less than 3,000 miles. Spare tire, jack and lug wrench are all in place. Brakes function as designed and stop true and straight. Car also retains the California blue plates originally issued to it.

While this former beauty queen is not museum quality after 42 years, it is certainly a fine looking and fine driving example of true 70's luxury and a standard in American auto manufacturing and quality that no longer exists. Fly in to Palm Springs and drive home with confidence.

1972 was the first year for the new Mark IV body style and unique as it was the only year to display the designer's choice for front bumper before the federally mandated, and much heavier looking, 5mph bumpers installed on all 1973 and later vehicles losing the clean original lines forever.

The '72 Mark IV came with the following standard equipment:

6 Way Twin Comfort Lounge Seats (all working)

Dark Blue Vinyl Roof

460 V-8 Engine

Power Steering

Power Brakes

Sure Track Brake System

Automatic Park Brake Release

Automatic Temperature Control

Tinted Glass

Power Windows

Power Antenna (works)

Long Shear Cut Pile Carpeting

Remote Driver's Mirror

Rim Blow Steering Wheel

Cartier Electric Clock (works perfectly)

This particular Lincoln also came with the following optional equipment:

Blue Moondust Metallic Paint (more metallic than the standard Lincoln paint)

Silver Iridescent Pin Stripe

Horizontal Front Bumper Guard (currently removed by personal choice but is in trunk and very nice)

Auto Headlamp Dimmer

Intermittent Windshield Wipers

Electric Rear Window Defogger

Convenience Group (power trunk release, power door locks)

AM/FM Stereo 8 Track Tape Player (both bands work, 8 track tape player works and includes Ford Family Of Fine Music tape)

Automatic Speed Control (works)

Tilt Steering Column

Traction Lock Rear Axle

Opera Windows

Dark Blue Leather Seating Surfaces

Reclining Passenger Seat

Front & Rear Carpeted Floor Mats

All totaled, with options, this car had an original sticker price of just over $10,000. A princely sum by any standard in 1972.

Transaction will be handled in a gentlemanly fashion. The car is available to view any time during the auction's run. Questions will be answered promptly. If you need to get your wife's/girlfriends/mother's approval before buying a car, please do so before you bid. I will not end the auction early.

I will accept a $500 deposit through PayPal within 24 hours of auction's end. Balance can be paid in cash at time of delivery. I do not work with any particular shipping company but I can certainly facilitate in any shipping arrangements Buyer may need.

Aye Captain! Hennessey's 2018 Lincoln Navigator has 600 HP

Tue, Mar 20 2018

Texas tuner John Hennessey wants to steer the 2018 Lincoln Navigator into some serious performance SUV waters, presently dominated by the Mercedes-Benz G-Class and Range Rover SVR. Upping the power of Lincoln's range-topping sport-utility, from 450 horsepower to an even 600 hp, is enough to hustle the Navigator from 0-60 mph in 4.8 seconds and run the quarter mile in 12.9 seconds at 107 mph. In terms of the 0-60 sprint, this performance upgrade nets you about 0.7 seconds versus the stock model. Good to know, in case you're hot to run a Navigator at your local drag-strip. "The 2018 Navigator is a world-class luxury SUV and we wanted to take its already impressive power and performance to the next level," said president and company founder, John Hennessey. So, what exactly has been done under the hood? The key to the performance improvements is better breathing, courtesy of a HPE600 twin-turbo engine upgrade. Using the Navigator's twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 as its base, Hennessey adds a new engine management computer, a stainless steel exhaust system, high-flow air induction, and a large front-mounted intercooler with blow-off valve. Hennessey's six-wheel VelociRaptor, which uses the same base engine, produces 602 hp and 622 lb-ft of torque. Optional extras include 22-inch forged alloy wheels, a lowering kit, and Brembo brakes at the front and rear. Those brakes might not be a bad idea, especially considering this 600-hp motor is attached to approximately three tons of SUV that will, eventually, need to be stopped. This performance package rings in at $19,950 (including installation) and comes with a 3-year/36,000-mile warranty from Hennessey. Only 200 examples will be built for the 2018 model year. While not quite as crazy as the VelociRaptor, this Lincoln is also only about one-third the price of that monster truck. Related Video: This content is hosted by a third party. Lincoln considering giving cars real names again

Wed, Apr 22 2015

Enthusiastic reaction to the Continental concept might be the death knell for Lincoln's alphabet soup of monikers. "Without divulging the future, we're very excited about the Continental name and the attention it's gotten," Ford President of the Americas Joe Hinrichs said to Automotive News. Hinrichs admitted that the current MK names could confuse those not familiar with the models. Hinrichs suggested that one way Lincoln might differentiate itself was to "leverage its heritage." While this is certainly nothing explicit, the talk could be an indication of an upcoming overhaul for the brand's naming scheme. The Continental is set to hit the market next year as a replacement for the MKS as the company makes a major push into China. Lincoln bosses reportedly gave the designers the model name as inspiration for what to create. The brand's health has slowly been improving since former Ford CEO Alan Mulally was ready to completely kill the brand. Last year, a new boss was appointed to the helm, and there were reports of a modular platform under development. Let us know in Comments what Lincoln names you want to see revived. The Town Car is likely the best-known model from the brand after the Continental, and Zephyr has fairly recent history as the brief moniker for the MKZ. Related Video:

How long will the 'golden age' of performance last?

Sat, Mar 26 2016

High-powered sports and luxury cars were everywhere at the New York Auto Show, prompting the obvious question for enthusiasts: How long will this golden age of performance last? Industry leaders have some time before regulations elevate the Corporate Average Fuel Economy level in 2025. Even then, they expect cars rippling with power to survive in some form. "Is it the end of an era," I don't think so," said Ola Kallenius, Daimler AG board member for Mercedes-Benz cars marketing and sales. "That performance element of individual mobility I don't think will ever go away." Kallenius, who oversaw the company's AMG division from 2010-2013, expects it to continue to grow. Last year, AMG sold a record 68,875 units around the world, an increase of 44.6 percent over 2014, with strong growth in the US, China, and Germany. Still, there's always the potential for gas to spike, and pending fuel economy regulations are looming. That could lead AMG to add electrification to its products, Kallenius said, pointing to the electric SLS as a test case. Chevy is also thinking ahead, said Al Oppenheiser, chief engineer of the Camaro. He wouldn't bite when asked about electrification for the Camaro (he did say "never say never"), but admitted in 2025 "it's going to be pretty tough to sell V8s." For now, things are rosy for muscle cars, and Chevy confidently showcased the 640-hp Camaro ZL1 in coupe and convertible form in New York. "I think that this is truly the golden age of performance," Oppenheiser said. It's hard to disagree. News & Analysis News: The 2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata RF was a show-stopper in New York. Analysis: There was a palpable energy when this RF — for Retractable Fastback — was revealed the night before the show at a trendy off-site venue near the Hudson River. Even as a parade of SUVs and flashy luxury cars rolled out the rest of the week, the Miata remained a hot topic. The Retractable Fastback is really a clever targa top, with part of the roof stowing behind the seats, adding about 100 pounds compared to the standard convertible. It makes the car more practical and arguably more attractive. The RF continues Mazda's tradition of selling the Miata with a hardtop variant. The first and second generations offered a detachable one, and a power retractable hardtop (a $1,700 option) was available on third-gen models. Judging by its reception in New York, the RF could prove to be even more popular than its predecessors.
