1957 Lincoln Mark Ii Base 6.0l on 2040-cars

Scottsdale, Arizona, United States

For sale is this extremely rare 1957 Lincoln Mark II. This car runs and drives like new and starts right up with no trouble! This car has the original classic two tone paint job of aqua with a white top. The interior boasts all white seats. Overall, this car in exceptional condition. Cosmetically it needs a little TLC but runs and drives like it's fresh off the factory floor. It starts right up, accelerates and breaks with ease, and has zero problems turning. The driver's door does not seem to catch correctly when closed but does stay closed; just has a little gap. There is barely any rust on the car though there are some bubbles in some areas. No bodywork has been done that is known of. The vast majority of the paint is pretty nice, but needs repainting to be show quality. Looks impressive going down the street and even up close is stunning. There are various nicks and scratches if you look close up. The chrome and stainless are in nice driver-quality shape, the exhaust still exits out the rear bumper ends and these rear bumper ends are in very solid shape. The gas filler mechanism works well. Nice grill. Hood opens and shuts easily though the trunk has some trouble opening.  Nice seats and door panels. Dash is in good shape but just needs to be pulled tight at the edges.  Clear gauges and the interior chrome is very good. Engine compartment is correct and looks very good. The car is 1 of 444 produced in 1957. A new '57 Mark II cost a whopping $10,000 and you could buy 2 Cadillacs and a Chevy for that amount. The car is loaded and has installed the only non-standard 'option' available at the time; the factory AC that is currently not hooked up. The car has the standard power steering, power brakes, power windows, power antenna, power seat, automatic trans, 368/300 HP V-8 Lincoln engine, real leather interior, tach, power door vent windows, courtesy lights, original and correct-rare-and very expensive turbine-type hubcaps. Clear title. Temp gauge shows as high due to heater valve being bypassed. Fuel-oil-and-amp guages, speedometer-odometer-and trip meter work. Turn signals and their corresponding dash indicators do not work. Engine runs cool and quiet. All glass is clear, dash guages are clear. Power antenna remains up. This is your opportunity to own a very rare example of American automotive history. I have priced this vehicle to provide you the best deal on a car of this caliber. Please be sure to ask any questions you may have and I can also provide you with any specific pictures or videos of the car that you'd like. Due to the extreme rarity of this car, prices will only continue to climb. Get it now before it's too late!

SNL, Jim Carrey late to the Lincoln MKC ad spoof party

Mon, 27 Oct 2014

At this point, making fun of the Lincoln MKC ads starring Matthew McConaughey is getting pretty old, though apparently Lincoln loves it. The commercials have been airing for over a month, but Conan O'Brien, Ellen DeGeneres and even South Park have all taken their swipes at the spots with the smooth-talking actor monologuing about his new luxury crossover. Saturday Night Live might have finally killed the joke in its recent episode featuring Jim Carrey.
The problem certainly isn't that Carrey does a bad job in the spoofs, and he actually pulls off a pretty good McConaughey impression. They start out as pretty direct mimicry and slowly evolve into the absurd, including cracks at McConaughey's acting career and the way he rubs his thumb and finger together. Carrey certainly raises at least a chuckle at times, though.
However, the comedian's engaging performance can't take away from the fact that SNL has arriving to this mocking party pretty late in the game. The jokes just don't feel fresh anymore, so hopefully these ads put the final nails in the coffin for the riffs - at least until the next batch of Lincoln ads arrive.

Matthew McConaughey dusts off his Lincoln Lawyer jacket [w/videos]

Thu, 21 Aug 2014

Alright, alright, alright. Easygoing Texan Matthew McConaughey has enjoyed a career renaissance recently with critically acclaimed roles in Dallas Buyers Club and True Detective, and the actor has just signed a multi-year deal with Lincoln to become the luxury brand's spokesperson. The first ads starring McConaughey should hit televisions and the internet soon.
McConaughey's campaign has his pitching starting out with the company's pivotal new 2015 Lincoln MKC compact crossover. "Lincoln is an iconic, American brand and I like where they are heading with their transformation," he said in the announcement of the deal. The appears to be really throwing some money into these ads, too. Not only has it hired A-list talent in front of the camera, Nicolas Winding Refn, best known for Drive, is directing the spots.
Of course, this won't be McConaughey's first noteworthy ride in a Lincoln. Back in 2011, he starred in The Lincoln Lawyer, a legal thriller about at attorney would did business out of a 1980s Town Car. The MKC should certainly prove to be a much better driver than that.

NHTSA upgrades Ford floor mat unintended acceleration probe

Mon, 17 Dec 2012

According to a Bloomberg report, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has upgraded an investigation into complaints of unintended acceleration lodged against Ford vehicles. The investigation began in June of 2010 when just three complaints had been received and it only concerned the Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan, but this was at a time when the phrase "unintended acceleration" made grown men go pale. With 49 additional complaints received since then, the investigation has been reclassified as an engineering analysis - the last phase before a recall - and it has been expanded to include the Lincoln MKZ, making for a total of "around 480,000" units affected between the three sedans from the 2008 to 2010 model years.
The ostensible cause is that floor mats are trapping the accelerator pedal, but according to a Ford statement at the time, the entrapment is due to owners placing the optional all-weather floor mats, or aftermarket floor mats, on top of the car's standard floor mats. NHTSA has backed up that assessment, pinning the blame on "unsecured or double stacked floor mats."
On the face of it, it would appear that NHTSA has upgraded the status not because of Ford's error, but owner error, and Ford has stated publicly that it is "disappointed" in NHTSA's move. On top of NHTSA still being skittish after that other unintended acceleration debacle, it could be seen to be taking its time investigating all of the variables: it's reported that Ford changed its accelerator pedal design in 2010, a "heel blocker" in the floorpan has been considered a potential culprit in how the floor mats could be trapping the pedal, some drivers have said the floor mats weren't anywhere near the pedal, and according to a report in the LA Times, in "a letter sent by Ford to NHTSA in August 2010, the automaker said it found three injuries and one fatality that 'may have resulted from the alleged defect.'"
