1960 Lincoln Continental Limousine Very Rare 1of 34 Built, 1of 9 Known To Exist on 2040-cars
Fenton, Michigan, United States
Here we have a 1960 Lincoln Continental Mark V Executive Limousine, hand built by Hess and Eisenhart of Cincinnati, Ohio. The same company that built the infamous X-100 Lincoln that was transporting then president Kennedy on the day of his assassination. This is 1 of only 34 built and 1 of only 9 left in the world!!Because these cars were hand built, production was limited and costs were high. This particular Limo cost $10,230.00 when new, that's $4,000 more than the highest priced Lincoln available that year. They were possessions of the truly elite including the King of Rock Elvis Presley, President JFK and Frank Sinatra. Elvis's car recently sold for $556,500.All the limousines were highly optioned with power windows, power locks, electric headlight dimmer, power driver's seat, dual air conditioning and remote trunk release. Offered only with Black exteriors with a padded vinyl roof. They had leather interior in the driver's compartment and cloth in the passenger area. The mechanicals of this Lincoln have been gone through. The power brake booster and master cylinder are brand new, the fuel pump and filter are also recent. The complete exhaust is new including new manifold gaskets and mufflers. The starter and carburetor were just rebuilt and the vinyl top is newer. The wide white wall tires are newer and have lots of tread left. The body was resprayed in the original Black color a few years ago. The body is straight and the paint is shiny. All of glass is in good shape less some minor delamination. The engine compartment is clean and neat. The trunk is solid and retains the original spare tire and factory jack. The previous owner of 17 years was an avid car collector with many quality vehicles to his credit. This is a very rare and significant vehicle. With only 9 known to still exist, chances are that you will not see another one for many years to come. Please feel free to call Jon with any questions at 810-252-7308 anytime. I can answer all questions and also give a walk around description in real time. I have over 200 pictures available via email. Please send your email address through ebay messages and I will send them to you right away.In full disclosure, this is not a perfect car. The power windows need some work, the A/C is not hooked up, the body has a few small touchups and a couple small bubbles. Upon closer inspection, the bumpers and trim show age. All vehicles over 10 years old should be considered one of a kind and very subjective pieces of classic art.We welcome all questions, offers and inspections. Inspection companies are also welcome. The description is our opinion only, we can not guarantee the mileage of vehicles over 10 years old. We do not recommend driving a classic car home, out on the open road, miles from home, is not the place to get familiar with your new classic. We always recommend enclosed shipping. Let us know if you would like a shipping quote through our usual shipper.Every vehicle has it's own strengths and weaknesses. With that in mind all our vehicles are sold AS IS/WHERE IS with no warranty expressed or implied. Please request the additional pictures as they will show more details of the vehicle. International Buyers: We are well versed in the export process and required paperwork. Let us know if you would like a shipping quote to the port. Are you new to ebay? Give us a call and we will be happy to walk you through the process. Happy Motoring and Good Luck!! Jon 810-252-7308 |

Junkyard Gem: 1978 Lincoln Continental Town Car
Sun, Nov 1 2020Just before Ford downsized the Continental for 1980 and made the Town Car a separate model for 1981, the biggest and plushest new sedan in the Dearborn universe was the mighty Continental Town Car. Here's one from 1978, the second-to-last model year of the two-and-a-half-ton Continental Town Car, found in nice condition in a Denver car graveyard last month. This car rolled out of the Lincoln showroom loaded, with the landau-style "Coach Roof" and just about every additional option. Base price on the 1978 Continental with the Town Car package started at $11,606 (about $48,350 in 2020 dollars), but this car cost much more than that. A new Mercedes-Benz S-Class cost better than twice as much that year (and it was worth it), but you still had to be a heavy-duty high-roller to buy a new '78 Town Car. The base engine in the 1978 Continental was a 400-cubic-inch (6.6-liter) V8 making a grim 166 horsepower, a truly horrific ratio of 25.2 horsepower per liter of displacement (torque came to a respectable 319 lb-ft, though). If the new Navigator got 25.2 horses for each liter in its turbo V6, it would have a mere 88 horsepower to haul its nearly three tons, rather than the 450 horses that 21st-century engine technology gives us. The good news with this car is that it came with the optional 460-cubic-inch (7.5-liter) V8, rated at 210 horsepower and 357 lb-ft. That was sufficient to get this car's 4,660 pounds moving well enough. Still just 28 horses per liter, but a significant upgrade. These cars weren't about performance, however. They were about a silent, cushy ride and poofy seats that swallowed you in velour comfort. When did Detroit stop making these pillow-top seats? And opera lights? And snazzy "coffin-handle" door pulls? Yes, even the wire wheels (a $333 option, or $1,385 today) stayed on this car to the very end. Why get a Rolls-Royce when you could have this, the grille of this behemoth seems to ask us. Though it remained in good condition when it arrived in its final parking space, a Malaise Era Continental sedan just isn't worth much in the enthusiast world. Even a 1978 Mark V in nice shape would be hard-pressed to find a forever home nowadays. At least it had a chance to visit the Norman Rockwell Museum in Massachusetts before the end. In what came to look like a very smart move by Ford, in light of certain geopolitical events in 1979, the Panther-based 1980 Continentals weighed nearly a half-ton less than this car.
2017-19 Ford Super Duty trucks recalled for tailgates that could open
Fri, Dec 6 2019Ford announced two separate recalls today, though neither has resulted in any known injuries. The first recall, which deals with a tailgate malfunction, affects 261,617 examples of 2017-2019 F-250, F-350, and F-450 Super Duty pickups. The second, which anticipates the possibility of a fuel leak, affects 3,893 units of 2020 Explorer and 2020 Lincoln Aviator SUVs with 3.0-liter engines. Ford says tailgates might accidentally open on some 2017-2019 Super Duty trucks because of a short circuit. If the pickups have an electric tailgate latch-release switch on the tailgate handle, water might get into the wiring. If the water hits the right spots, a short circuit could cause the switch to release the tailgate latch. In a worst-case scenario where the tailgate opens while driving, contents of the truck's bed could fall out and create a safety hazard. Dealerships will fix the problem by modifying the tailgate frame wiring harnesses with jumper pigtails and install a new tailgate handle release switch. Of the lot, 231,664 trucks are in the U.S., and 29,953 are in Canada. The Ford recall number is 19S48. The second recall is much smaller, involving fewer than 4,000 vehicles. In certain 2020 Explorers and Aviators with 3.0-liter engines, Ford says, "The convolute protective sleeve on the liquid fuel line is not long enough, which may allow for potential hard contact with the convolute-protected vapor fuel line. Over time, with vibration and engine roll, hard contact between the two fuel lines could cause the convolute on the vapor fuel line to rub through the plastic liquid fuel line." If that happens, it could be a fire risk and hazardous for drivers and passengers. Only 35 of those SUVs are in Canada, and the rest are in the United States. Dealers will fix the problem by replacing the defective convolute with a full-length piece and tying it down with a strap. The recall reference number for the Aviators and Explorers is 19S49. The recall adds to what has otherwise been a rocky early production phase for the new Explorers and Aviators.
Weekly Recap: Lincoln Continental serves up the style, Cadillac CT6 delivers the substance in New York
Sat, Apr 4 2015Lincoln and Cadillac grabbed the spotlight this week at the New York Auto Show in a dramatic fashion that evoked the brands' glory days. America's two luxury carmakers went toe-to-toe with their glittering reveals and plans for ambitious expansion. Both were selling their technology, style and the promise of a better future. Cadillac vs. Lincoln. At the Javits Center, 2015 seemed a lot like 1956. Neither company was interested in drawing comparisons with the other, which is fair, and accurate. They're in vastly different places in terms of sales and the pace of their turnarounds, but they hope to reach the same eventual destination at the pinnacle of the luxury-car world. Lincoln used the element of surprise to great effect with the Continental concept. A production version is still at least a year away, and the company was vague on details. Officially, we don't even know if it is front- or rear-wheel drive, though speculation abounds. Who cares? The seats can be adjusted 30 ways! The Continental also showed off a bold chrome grille that will be the new face of Lincoln. The blue bomber also rolled on blinged-out 21-inch polished aluminum wheels, used a 3.0-liter EcoBoost engine and had huge LED head lights with "laser-assisted" high beams. All of this resulted in almost blinding attention. The concept drew rave reviews, stirred controversy with Bentley designers who argued Lincoln ripped them off, and most importantly, pointed a way forward for the newly determined brand that hopes to compete with Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Cadillac and Lexus. View 32 Photos Meanwhile, Cadillac showed the CT6, a finished product that will top its range and is loaded with the best and latest technologies General Motors has at its disposal. With production starting late this year, Cadillac had more specifics at the ready. Engines? Cadillac has a couple V6s and a turbo four for sure. It's working on a hybrid, and has considered a V-Series variant. It's based on a new rear-wheel-drive, aluminum-intensive chassis called Omega, features an advanced collision-mitigation system with automatic braking and has a cabin that's laden with "leathers, exotic woods and carbon fiber." It will be assembled at GM's Detroit-Hamtramck factory and goes on sale next year. At this point, Cadillac is more than willing to talk about every except for the price. The devil was not in the details for Cadillac, as evidenced by the CT6. But it wasn't for Lincoln either.
