1957 Continental Mark Ii By Ford Motors Co - 2 Door Coupe - Partial Restoration on 2040-cars
Tijeras, New Mexico, United States
A unique American classic with only 444
made in 1957, making this car a rare piece of American car history! With a long hood, short deck, and sculpted trunk holding the "continental" spare in a semi-upright position, the Mark II boasted being a sporty, yet elegant, modern-for-the-time classic. This car has been painstakingly started through the restoration process. It has good glass; two original leather interiors; two of the main bumpers re-chromed; body
work completed and primed for painting; and the air conditioning unit, plus parts that have been carefully stored. No appreciable rust is apparent. The Continental has been garaged for the past 33 years. Most of the hard
restoration work has been completed! Reassembly and detailing is required. The
engine had been running and the car driven when it started through the restoration
process. However, the car has not been started for at least 12 years. The engine and transmission have not been modified. Mileage: 83,701.
The Mark II originally sold for around $10,000, the equivalent of a new Rolls-Royce or two Cadillacs! Famous owners included Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Elizabeth Taylor, the Shah of Iran, and a cross section of the richest men in America. Taylor's car was a gift from Warner Bros. studio, and was painted a custom color to match her distinctive eye color. The car was featured in the 1956 film High Society, starring Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Grace Kelly, and Louis Armstrong. |

However, if you missed the posh event this year, then Jay Leno has you covered yet again. For a nearly hour-long installment of Jay Leno's Garage, the comedian has dumped his denim in favor of a suit to take viewers on an insider tour of the lavish gathering. He interviewed some of the most talented designers in the auto industry, too. Leno starts off checking out a few beautiful classics by the shore, but things really get interesting for his stroll down the Concept Car Lawn for a scoop on the vehicles of tomorrow. Ed Welburn tells Leno all about the Buick Avenir, and Shiro Nakamura offers a tour of the Infiniti Q60.
