1997 Lexus LX 450

165,748 miles

White with Tan Leather

Front, center and rear Locking Differentials that engage and disengage properly

Mostly Southern Truck: 3 years in Florida, then 3 Years in Ohio, then the previous owner owned it for the last 11 years in Georgia

Only a little minor rust on the undercarriage, see pics

No Check Engine Light

Cold AC

Power windows, mirrors and locks work well, power antenna just replaced (after pics were taken).

Interior is clean and odor free.

Driver seat leather is cracking.

Driver side seat motor gear is stripped out for the front to back adjustment.  I think the seat is currently in the rear most position, which, due to the leg room in these is suitable for people of average height or taller.

If the buyer/winning bidder so chooses I can recover the seats with high quality Lexus pattern leather and fix the driver seat gear for $1250 before delivery.  (Leather from MetricTLC.)  (Its a good bit of labor and I don't really want to do it, just offering the service to the buyer.) I have done this on a few other 80s, I just haven't had the time to do this one.  Payment for the vehicle would come first, then I would do the work.  (If it were me, Id probably drive it as is until the leather gets really bad and/or put some nice canvas seat covers on it.)   I can also fix just the seat motor for $250 if buyer so chooses.  (I don't really want or have the time to do that either, just offering it to help facilitate the sale.)

No third row seats.  (They are not real useful and you would probably take them out and store them in your garage or attic anyway.)

Cosmetically, the exterior has a few blemishes here and there, consistent with most 17 year old vehicles.  There are some spots on the roof and a few scuffs here and there, nothing major.  The Autocheck shows one accident in 2005 so it had some paintwork, but not sure exactly where.  Vehicle retains all its original body panels and glass.

The vehicle runs and drives great, needs nothing that I am aware of, and I am very familiar with 80 series Land Cruisers/LX450s.  No smoke, no funny noises.  Leaks a little bit of oil underneath, like most 80s, but not bad.

Comes with books and manuals, full tool kit and jack, Lexus key and remote.

Fresh oil and filter change with Shell Rotella 15w-40 and Toyota filter.

This is a really solid truck that I have been driving often for the last couple of months.

You may notice that this truck did NOT have the roof rack which is common on these.  These racks were installed at the port or dealer, not the factory and are known to cause rust and leaking issues due to the holes drilled in the roof.  This is a sought after feature among Land Cruiser enthusiasts.

This is a rare vehicle in that it is the last year of the 80 Series Land Cruiser/LX450 with lockers, no roof rack, white in color, relatively low miles (under 175k) and 90% rust free.

Forget LCD displays, the Lexus UX concept has hologram orbs

Thu, Sep 22 2016

Two weeks ago, Lexus revealed the UX concept for the Paris Motor Show. The company only showed one photo of the exterior, but did give a generic description of the interior, saying it would have "imaginative technologies for an immersive driver experience." Now we know what that means: holograms! Yes, Lexus has done about the only thing that can impress in this world of high-resolution automotive displays – it brought instruments and infotainment into the third dimension. In the process it has somewhat reimagined the way occupants interact with the car as well. We're guessing the name UX, which stands for user experience in the tech world, was intentional. The large crystal-shaped box in the center console stands out immediately. The company says the box will display climate control and infotainment options in full 3D for the driver and passenger. The instrument cluster gets the hologram treatment as well with an orb floating in the middle and the ability to display both analog and digital information. No word on whether a small, blue Princess Leia will appear in the console asking for help. The UX's interior has a few other nifty surprises. The windows are electrochromic, so they can be darkened as needed (similar tech is already in use on some car roofs). The passenger side of the dashboard has a large, finned sound bar that can be removed. We're not entirely sure the thinking behind that feature, but we suppose it would be nice as a stereo for a picnic or a day at the beach. To cap things off, Lexus included the concept car staples of touch-sensitive buttons and side-view mirror cameras. As for when you'll see hologram displays in future Lexus models, we have no idea but wouldn't count on them coming anytime soon. We have a more optimistic view of the Lexus UX concept itself. With crossovers as popular as ever, we expect to see an attractive production model with these bulging fenders and a steeply raked windshield in a year or so. 2016 Lexus GS F First Drive [w/video]

Wed, Oct 14 2015

Performance cars used to be about horsepower and chassis tuning. Lately the question isn't so much what's under the hood, but how many buttons are on the console. We're overwhelmed with individual settings for engine response, transmission, exhaust, steering, and ride. When did these cars turn into a choose your own tuning adventure? The Lexus GS F represents an attempt to step back from this over-adjustable madness and return to more bygone sports car values. It has a special engine, unique bodywork, and a chassis tuned for high performance. There are only two settings you need to play with. The first setting is the Drive Mode Select dial on the center console, which mainly controls the response of 5.0-liter V8 engine and the shift behavior of the eight-speed automatic. The engine is the same V8 found in the RC F, making the same 467 horsepower and 389 pound-feet of torque. New this year are small balancing weights on the crankshaft pulley that cut down on internal vibration. Drive Mode Select also changes the electronic power steering, air conditioning, and stability control (you can also turn it all the way off via a separate button). The engine is the same V8 found in the RC F, making the same 467 horsepower and 389 pound-feet of torque. You will use two settings in the GS F: Eco when you want to get somewhere, Sport S+ when you want to get somewhere fast. Normal and Sport S modes offer intermediate steps you don't really need. Eco mode softens the throttle and reduces the use of air conditioning for slightly better fuel economy. It also makes the center-mounted tachometer switch into an eco-driving gauge. S+ puts everything into sport mode, including a heavier steering weight and a higher stability control threshold. While Sport S mode shifts the noon position of the tachometer to just below the horsepower peak of 7,000 rpm, S+ goes a step further and turns the rev indicator into a solid bar that grows around the edge of the display. It also adds oil and coolant temperature to the readout. And how could we fail to mention G-Force Artificial Intelligence (or grin at such an overwrought name)? That's the shift logic the transmission uses in Sport S+. It's designed to hold revs in corners and downshift during hard braking. "Our goal with F is to make a driver's car, not a drag race winner." The other button in the Lexus GS F that you need to pay attention to is next to the Drive Mode Select knob, labeled TVD for Torque Vectoring Differential.

Will.i.am and Lexus make music on a runway with frickin' lasers

Fri, Jul 31 2015

There's no doubt that an engine can make some fabulous sounds, but they don't technically fit the definition of music. In a spectacular recent stunt from Lexus, Will.i.am, and a huge team of technicians, a trio of NX CUVs actually became an instrument while driving down a runway to play the artist's song #thatPOWER. All that was necessary to get it done was the help of a whole lot of lasers and some very precise driving. The team rigged up 350 audio-sensitive lasers and lights to make this stunt possible, and it essentially turned the runway into a real-world version of the Rock Band video game interface. The three NXs needed to drive not only in the right location but also at the right speed to keep the song's tempo going. While what you see here was reportedly shot in just one night, setting everything up took 65 people over seven days. The awesomely named light artists, Marshmallow Laser Feast, designed the actual layout. The end result of all of the hard work definitely looks impressive in this video, but it also appears like this was a very difficult stunt to actually get right. A lot of the faces at the end of the clip were wearing a look of relief of finally doing things successfully. will.i.am AND LEXUS CREATE LASER AND SOUND SPECTACULAR ON EPIC STREET 'STAVE' FRONTMAN CHALLENGED TO NAVIGATE GIANT VISUAL INSTRUMENT IN ALL NEW LEXUS NX Brussels 30th July 2015 - #NXontrack - Lexus Europe, today unveiled an innovative audio-visual film which sees global entrepreneur and musician, will.i.am challenged to create a remix of one of his most iconic tracks, #thatPOWER in a breath-taking music, art and technology spectacular. . Played out on a disused runway lined with more than 350 projected mapped motion and audio sensitive lasers and lights, the front-man battles against speed and rhythm to conduct and navigate a trio of striking Lexus NXs', hitting the laser 'targets' at the correct tempo to synchronise with his smash hit. The unprecedented live event, shot in one night last week, sees the musician's skills put to the test as he joins three stunt drivers including 2013 Blockbuster, Rush frontman, Niki Faulkner, to take on the colossal 'sound-road', race against rhythm and successfully complete the challenge in the limited hours of darkness available before the sun rises. Speaking about the video, will.i.am said: "Working with the stunt guys to hit the laser targets in time with the music wasn't easy to get right but the result was awesome.
